Matt is an attorney who helps out his father and brother with their jointly-owned night club in Miami called Panic. One night, a woman coming into the club immediately drew Matt's attention. June is a pharmaceutical sales rep who is a spit fire. When a man tried to push her out of the way at the bar to order a drink, she gave quiet the performance by pouring her drink over his head. This interaction caught Matt's attention and he pulled June away to speak more privately. Enamored with June, Matt is shocked when he, his brother and father are all arrested and June disappears.

Finding out the truth about June broke Matt, but the ending was fantastic. This was a quick read that I couldn't put down.

4 out of 5 stars.

Thank you to the Publisher and NetGalley for an e-copy for honest review.

MAKE ME STAY - Sidney Halston

NIGHTCLUB ROMANCE - 4.5 stars

#2 in the Panic romance series

Plot - 4.5 stars - This story basically follows along with the first in this series. In #1 we read about Nick and Katie, just meeting Nick's twin brother Matt in passing. But now we get to know Matt and what's behind his unhappiness. We begin by looking at Matt now, a broken man who has been betrayed by the love of his life. The flashbacks help us to see the situation from his point of view, as it happened, and it was easy to get caught up in the story at that point.

Writing - 4.5 stars - I was drawn into the story pretty quickly. Panic is an interesting place--hot and steamy and trendy. And the characters are interesting, with more depth than some romantic figures. Halston incorporates somewhat unusual but important issues into this series. This time she tackles amnesia and Crohn's Disease in a sensitive and clear way. These subjects are critical to the story and add a further dimension to what might otherwise have been a typical romance.

Characters - 4 stars - Matt comes across (at first) as a bit of a bad guy, and I had kind of a hard time reconciling him with the loving, responsible man that he really is. However, I soon found him to be much more attractive, as soon as he dropped the tough-guy persona. He's a lawyer who has been helping out at Panic, handling just about everything now that he and Nick have pretty much taken over the general running of the club. Trying to juggle all that weekend time and work, along with his full-time job as a lawyer, has made him seek out alcohol and drugs as a sometimes-fix. But June changes all that. He is intrigued by her when he first sees her come into the club. They get hot and heavy very quickly. Even though June is obviously (to the reader) hiding something, Matt seems oblivious and falls hard for her. When she turns out to be an undercover cop, all hell breaks loose and he is one of the casualties. As might be expected, he's unable to forgive her for her deception, especially since he's always stated how he values honesty above all else. June, for her part, is caught up in a situation that's out-of-control. She has divided loyalties and has a hard time reconciling them. Their struggle to find each other again is slow and steady, and I was definitely rooting for them.

Title - 4 stars - The phrase "make me stay" is mentioned several times when June wants to avoid all the bad things she knows are going to happen when her job as undercover cop is revealed. She just whispers, "make me stay," so she can just pretend to lose all responsibility and forget it all, staying with Matt, like she wishes she could.

Cover - 5 stars - The covers in this series are gorgeous! The beautiful colors, the vibrant scene, the lovely writing, all combine to make a uniquely beautiful cover that really draws the eye.

Overview - 4.5 stars - This was a very good continuation of a uniquely different series. While the first focused on dealing with PTSD, this book offered different challenges between the main characters. Instead of just falling in love and having a happily-ever-after, these characters must deal with difficult issues and overcome both the tough decisions as well as their own feelings.

Matt a lawyer during the week and owner/bartender of Miami hottest night club on the weekend falls in love for the first time with June. June/April is undercover to take down a drug ring that happens at her boyfriend's club. Over a year later Matt is still looking for his June/April to find out what happened to their love. Matt and April need to work through their issues to find love again.

Halston can write characters that leap off the page with plot twists you do not see coming.

I voluntarily read an advanced reviewers copy of this book

I have to hang my head in shame because I stopped reading this book because I hate flashbacks. I then decided to give it another try and OMG my mind is blown. This book had me crying and laughing at all of the right moments. I usually have one character that I fall in love with but in this book I was sooo torn.

Matt displayed such honest emotion... he was not afraid to put himself out there and boy when he gets let down you feel like it is happening to you...you feel like your best friend just got hurt and you want to comfort them and make them feel better. Yet somehow Sidney Halston creates a tale that makes you understand April/Junes story and why things went down the way that they did.

Overall I have to say that I loved this book, I loved hearing about Nick and my best friend in my mind Geo because while she uses Geo and I get called Gette (sounds like Jet) we both share the same name. I did take one star away because hey I don't like flashbacks but it was clearly necessary to get the full effect of the story so it is a very strong 4 1/2 stars. I can't wait to ready Fox's story!

I really enjoyed the second book. The authors writing is amazing and she always pulls me with a great storyline.
And the characters...I adored them. Can't wait to read more by this author.

The second book of the Panic series was another great story. This one had me guessing a bit more than the first as I tried to figure out what was truth and what was a lie. Matt spent the story doing the same. As he realized all of the pain June/April put him through, it became obvious why he was struggling once she finds a way back into his life. A great author and an emotional story! Can't wait for book 3 of the series!

April had to make a very tough choice when she walked away from Matt - but seeing him again made her realize just how much she had fallen for him. This sexy, intense story was perfectly delivered by Halston.

I am glad to have had an opportunity to review the second book of this series. Personally, I feel that Nick's story was better than Matt's story. Nick's story felt more real to me than Matt's did. I did not connect with the main female character like I did in the first book. I think April needs more character development as far as what she wants and who she wants to be. I do not think she went over all her options... Despite these little things, the bigger picture is that I enjoyed the book and seeing this different side of Matt than in the first book. I give this book three stars.

This book left me feeling unsure of how I felt about it. From the outset it's pretty obvious to the reader that the hero's dad was into some pretty shady stuff so later, much later, it made sense that he was furious. But the story never really gelled for me. At points the story dragged and the plot device used to get them back together again is not one of my favorites.

This is the 2nd book in the Panic series and I have to say honestly that I loved Nick and Katherine's story a whole lot more. I am not a huge fan of going back into the past to show the development of the story and I found myself skimming some to get to the really good part. In the beginning we meet June Simpson and Matt, twin brother to Nick, falls for June. He feels complete with her and trusts her completely. After several months together, she seems to vanish out of thin air. Matt is heartbroken and from the previous book we know that he has loved and lost someone. Then one day, a year later, he hears a voice that he can't believe he is hearing. He chases after her but she looks different and dresses different and when he confronts her she says her name is Zara. Fast forward and we find out the April (her real name) is an undercover cop and was involved on the take down of Matt's father, Victor Moreno. She finally confesses to Matt the whole truth and Matt is very upset and cannot forgive her. I kind of found his behavior a bit harsh and immature. I means she an undercover cop for pete's sake, it's not like she could tell him and she definitely did not mean to fall in love with him. *sigh* We have some action and a bit of suspense. The story is well written and Matt and April do get their HEA. 3.5 stars.

Make Me Stay is another amazing entry in the Panic series! This time it's Nico's (Pull Me Close) twin brother, Matt (Mateo) and June's story. Matt and June spent 5 months happily engaging in an intense affair and falling in love. Then she ghosted him and broke his heart into tiny little pieces. Now in the present he's at a coffee shop and he hears her voice, the raspy, sensual voice of the woman he's still in love with. Only she calls herself something different, has a different hair color, and insists that he has her confused with the wrong woman. Cue the intrigue and the drama. And damn is there drama, lots of drama. And suspense and so many things going on that it made my head spin, but in a really good way.

I absolutely fell in love with Matt. He is such a strong character, equal to his twin, Nico, in his patience and love for June. Even though she ripped his heart into shreds, he's still there for her when she needs him most. And that my friends, is the sign of a true man, a good man. Someone who will give you what you need even though you broke his heart. Sigh and swoon...

I wasn't sure if I would end up even liking June, but in the end, I did. I understood why she broke Matt's heart. I felt for him, of course, but I even felt for her, because she was only doing what she had to do, not because she wanted to hurt him. She was just as strong as Matt, a truly equal partner for him.

Make Me Stay is sexy, and emotional and a little angsty, but not in an OTT way. Matt and June are a sexy, exciting, sweet couple with chemistry in spades. I absolutely love the Panic world that Sidney has created, and am anxiously awaiting the next one in this series, Kiss Me Back.

"Loveswept has allowed for Sidney Halston to sweep me away again in the beauty of Miami Beach and the alluring, danger, drama, desire, and intrigue of the nightclub atmosphere. This time round we are back at Panic and Matt has continued his search for the one woman that set his world on fire. Then she is there. With secrets, drama, and an all-consuming desire that each have held onto. April never meant to fall in love. She never wanted to bring Matt in to her world of lies, deceit, and alternate identities. She was a woman with a job to do. She just never expected to find that one love of her life.

Matt and April had so much to put back together and so much to lose. This was a read that took me all the way. It gave me more and then more. The angst, drama, desire, respect, secrets, lies, love, passion, and so forth. The read did no leave me needing. I get both the story of before and the story of now. They had a connection but she had a job. We see how they fell in love in the beginning. We also get to watch as that love brings them back together to build something new and lasting.

Sidney Halston gives me a read that pulls me in in more than one way. She draws on the depth of her characters, the richness in the plots, and combines this with the drama, passion, and support characters. The way she melds the before and after makes the read make sense. There was no huge gaping hole that left me wanting more. April and Matt find there but with challenges. If you read book one then you need to very much pick up book two of this series. If you have not read book one and want to start this series go ahead pick up this one and see Matt’s struggle to find that love that he knows will complete him. While April works to fix her world, and regain her love. This was a second chance romance that gave you the whole story.

Make Me Stay – Panic, #2

My first from this author and my goodness I have certainly been missing out! Make Me Stay is one of those unexpected kind of love stories where you think you have the plot figured out and then all of a sudden a twist shows up and you're happily reinvested all over again. Sidney Halston wrote a very compelling book that had me rooting for both Matt and June from the start. Not quite an insta-love between the mysterious June and the cocky playboy club owner that is Matt but clearly the chemistry was evident right off the bat.

I loved that author wrote this has almost a two part book. Everything we came to know about Matt and June is instantly obliterated as secrets are revealed and Matt and his family's lives are blown apart. I thought I had June figured out when she took such an interest in the club (Panic) but then all bets were off and I was literally glued to my e-reader to find out just what the heck kind of game she was playing after all. Their trysts were wildly exciting and I loved that Matt seemed to finally find his groove after years of fooling around. But then she's gone and his life will never be the same. The new woman that is April finds a very distrustful Matt and I wasn't sure anyone would ever be happy again. And I couldn't blame Matt for maintaining that steel wall around his hurt heart.

A story full of detours and surprises, and enough heartbreak to last a lifetime, Make Me Stay is also full of love and the hope that one can fix their mistakes no matter what. Trust is always an issue and this couple has their work cut out for them to find their way back to each other. It's a risk worth taking for both them and us as we watch from our front-row seats.

A solid 4 stars. I look forward to the next book and I'll be going back to read all about Matt's brother Nick in Pull Me Close.

3.5 Stars

The first book in the panic series is so well done that I eagerly waited to see what was next. The author has a way of bringing forth the Miami club scene with all of its excitement and beauty. Mateo Moreno and June Summer aka April is a hard one to sell but I think the author gives it a good shot.

Matt hears June’s voice while in a crowded coffee shop. He calls out to her but she runs off and he quickly chases her. She is dressed different but her voice is the same. He knows that the woman in front of him is June but she denies it and rushes off.

The book then shifts to part one which is the back story of June and Matt. If you read the first book in the series, you know that Matt is in love with a woman who mysteriously left him. June is an undercover cop sent to take down Matt and Nico’s father down. In the process they fall in love.

I liked the build up to their romance. Matt is entering the world of dating monogamously for the first time. He is really caught up into June. There are bits and pieces of June that troubled me from the start. They never showed the behind the scenes of her being a cop. She just mysteriously disappeared for a week or two as a “pharmaceutical rep” and comes back. She is a horrible liar. Matt is so caught up that he never realizes that she knows things about him that he never mentions to her.

Once June comes back it is revealed that her real name is April. The second half of the book is the story of April and Matt falling in love. April is remorseful that she hurt Matt while taking down his father. Once the truth is revealed, Matt is rightfully angry and hurt. April wants him to know that what they shared was real but Matt wants her gone out of his life.

If you haven’t read book one then you don’t know that Matt and Nico got caught up into their father’s shady dealings. Matt’s reputation and career as a lawyer was ruined which caused him to become bitter towards April. I liked that we got to see what happened with the scandal behind their father because in book one it was the aftermath.

There is a surprise twist that I didn’t see coming. I’m not sure if I cared for it but without spoiling anything, Matt and April are forced back together. Matt has to decide whether he can forgive April once and for all. This is where the book fell apart for me. I never fully got the love story for April and Matt. He is too hurt and forced to help her. She is dealing with a situation and at the last chapter or so, he decides to let it go. It happened to quickly at the end and felt forced.

I can’t wait to read Fox and Lola’s story. The ending gave me a bit of a teaser.

Make Me Stay by Sidney Halston was a well written and entertaining read.
I liked how we got to see the relationship develop between Matt and June/April in the first half then how they got back together in the second half.
The drama was well done, the storyline was easy to follow and the chemistry between Matt and April was sizzling.

Sexy and Captivating!

This is a fast paced and sexy romance that is set up in two parts. Part one is the past and part two is the future. I really enjoyed having both "sides"/parts of the story yet I wasn't a huge fan of this set up. Honestly, these sections couldn't be avoided but maybe handled in a different way? Flashbacks? Although I am not a huge fan, to fully understand the story and where Matt is coming from, the past had to be presented in some form.

I had a bit of a hard time to connecting with Matt and that's okay. To me, his character wasn't someone I would want to associate with. He was all over the place. He IS sexy, smart, charismatic yet immature and careless. He enjoys having a good time no matter the consequences. He uses women and drugs as a means of a escape from reality. He is clearly troubled and has a lot of growing to do. April might be the person to help.

April was more likeable and I enjoyed her character. She is also smart, sexy yet has her "head on straight." She doesn't have a lot in common with Matt. To me they are opposites but we all know what they say about opposites attracting. In Matt's/April's case they definitely hit it off in the bedroom, making for some extremely steamy moments.

Once I moved on from Matt's character and the format of the book, I really enjoyed the overall story. This book was much more than I expected, especially towards the end. I did NOT see the twist coming - READ TO FIND OUT. Kudos to Sidney Halston for that. I normally have a feeling what is going to happen but Sidney caught me off guard and I LOVE that.

Check out this SEXY and STEAMY romance available NOW on Amazon!
