Karen has been in a terrible accident, smashing her car head first into a telephone pole. She was driving too fast, running red lights, she was terrified, but now after the accident, she doesn’t remember why. Her husband Tom is baffled. Why would his wife have left in the middle of preparing dinner, leaving home without her purse or phone? Police are charging Karen with reckless driving, and they don’t believe she’s lost her memory despite the head injury she sustained in the crash. When a man is found shot to death not far from where Karen crashed, police find evidence that Karen was at the scene, and her simple car accident begins to look more like murder. Next door neighbor Brigid is there to lend Karen a shoulder to lean on, but is Brigid who she appears to be? Is anybody in this book for that matter? Lapena will trick, confound and confuse you. You may think you know what’s going on, but you have no idea. Highly recommended
