This is a little different rock romance than what I’m used to but I have to say that it kept me captivated until the very end. Kendrick and his brothers are under a contract which includes that they stay single which proves to be a little tough seeing that Kendrick is married with three kids. He is pushed to the wall and finally breaks leaving him with his wife walking out, buying out his contract and attending AA meetings because it all just became too much. Be ready for a journey back from the bottom to wondering if his life will ever be complete again.

For a first time author I have to say that Ms. Halliday is now an author I will search out and I’m only hoping that there will be other books on the guys in the band because she did an excellent job of setting up some very interesting storylines.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley for a freely given and honest review.

Interlude is a beautifully told, unusual rock star story. Kendrick Main has hit rock bottom. He used to be the lead singer of the famous band, FourMain, but when his wife left him, he crashed his truck, then went into rehab. He also had to buy out his contract with his sleazy record company, and now he's just existing, going to AA meetings, living in a trailer on his property, not with with his wife and children, and just trying to figure out what to do with himself and how to get his family back.

As much as I normally love the sexiness of most rock star romances, I love that that it isn't what Interlude is about. it's not about sex, drugs and rock n roll. It's about one man who happens to be a rock star, who is just trying to get his life back on track after it spiraled out of control. There is still lots of tension between Kendrick and his wife, but it's not presented graphically or in a steamy way, it's much more about the emotions, all the love between the two. I fell in love with Kendrick, and his wife Eliza and his three kids, his band, his family, pretty much everyone in the book, except of course the evil, snake in the grass former manager. Kendrick is a good guy, it just took him getting his head out of his ass to live up to it. And the fact that he had an amazing wife like Eliza to stay by his side, but not do everything for him even when everything inside her was screaming for her to, that took a strong backbone and I really admire that about her.

If you like your rock star love without all the craziness of tours, groupies and such, I highly recommend you pick up Interlude, you'll love it as much as I do.

Kudos, Kay Halliday on your amazing debut novel. I am looking very much to your next book!

Kendrick is in a rock band with his brother and 2 cousins. They become a sensation overnight and their record label decides to sell them as sexy single guys. The trouble is, Kendrick is married to his high school sweetheart and has 3 kids ... and the record label insists he hides them. Kendrick becomes tired of living this way and turns to the bottle and then he hits rock bottom when his wife leaves him. Eliza is his rock and he can't phantom a life without her. When he crashes his truck while he is drunk, he finally decides to seek help. He joins AA and sees a therapist, in hopes of getting his wife and family back. This is Kendrick's story of life, love, failure and triumph. I highly recommend you take this journey with him ... you won't regret it!

This is a great first book for this new author. The story is so compelling I couldn't put it down. It's not your regular love story and it's easy to become attached to the characters. I can't wait for future books on Kipton, Mark and Mike.

I received an ARC copy from the author through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, New Adult

I love the Rock Star genre, but this is a story about rock stars, not one set in the active touring/songwriting/recording world.
I can't find any other books by Kay, so assume this is her debit novel and it's very well done for a first novel.

I did find though at times it dragged, usually I love long novels, but sometimes this one seemed as though they were hashing and rehashing things out so much I switched off. The same things came out in just slightly different way it felt.
That's my main criticism about the book, its an excellent story but could (IMO of course! not everyones) have been tightened up a bit, with some parts made clearer, strengthened.
I'm thinking of things such as exactly why Kendrick and Eliza were apart, when its clear they're both still deeply in love, he's visiting her and the kids most days.
There's this undefinable "something" that's caused it and I found it frustrating not knowing what the issue was. I felt I'd missed reading a section maybe and even skimmed back to check. that carries on throughout the book and I just couldn't see why they were apart. Given its such a huge thing, a major plot in the story, I needed to know sooner, and when right near the end it finally comes out it felt wrong, very anti-climatic. Life just doesn't work like that, we don't know whats coming, how we'd react, we just have to roll with it.

The first half was a little slow for me, and I did skim a few scenes...*blush* wanting to get to the meat of the story.
The last third was so perfect though, really set up the scenes, provided lots of excitement and drama, right up my street.
I'm hoping in later books this part gets continued, its a potentially great story-line, providing lots of potentially vituperative and nasty scenes. This book has lots of good people in, and the label owner, a real unpleasant greedy controlling man, isn't actually in this novel, we just hear about him.
I'd like to see some nasties - him or some like him - in later books to provide a balance to all the good characters in this one.

Overall an excellent first book and I look forward to more.

Stars: Four, a really interesting read, with lots of emotion and drama.
