Hadn't read the other books in this series, but enjoyed this so much! Can't wait to start the journey from the beginning.

Good story, lots of action and I loved that Cat was a redhead, she was feared by most of the population and she could kick @$$!! I have to say I loved her panther "watch cat". My only complaint would be that there wasn't much romance in this "paranormal romance". I've not read the 2 books that preceded this one and did not feel lost by it. I would be interested in reading the the first two books.

Beneath the Night was a good story for the most part. A few minor issues but overall didn't distract.

'Beneath the Night' by Jen Colly is book three in the "The Cities Below" series. This is the story of Navarre and Cat. I have read the previous book but feel this is easily a standalone book.
Navarre has been 'asleep' for over 6 years. This sleep was to help him to recover from an injury but had yet awaken. When he senses Cat near his body starts to wake up. Navarre body and mind is telling him that Cat is his mate....his other half.
Cat was a loner and a fighter of demons until she taken on the responsibilities 5 kids left orphaned by demons. So she has secured a permanent place with Navarre and his people. Cat does work in the Guardian area of Navarre team but since Navarre has been asleep his second in command would commit to her having a permanent spot with them.
Cat has an abusive past with her father and demons so she has never been close with men and tries to avoid contact but to secure her place she goes forward with letting Navarre feed from her.
This was another exciting read! I liked Navarre who was protective of Cat but also easy and caring with her.
"My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."

A good addition to the series. However, I was disappointed by how poorly fleshed out the Cat character was in the book. After a 7 yr! Build up of having her pop up, have greater strength, different color hair, possible "tainted' lineage, her entire story was glossed over. You received very little insight into who she is,Yyou know she is half-vampire, her father is a nut-piece vampire who has been living in the city for years--he dies with little backstory not why he did what he did. It was disappointing. I felt the book was quickly done, and there wasn't enough time to really give it the attention it needed. That being said, the book was interesting and fast paced enough to keep this readers attention.
