I wasn't able to finish this. The writing style didn't work for me; it seemed rather trite.

I didn't enjoy this book as I did the other novels from this author. I think the way the book was written was a bit confusing: two weeks ago, then the next chapter the present, then 10 days ago...etc. Also chapters alternated from being told from the point of view of Amelia and her sister El. The plot was too unrealistic and some of the characters changed so much from the beginning it was difficult to see how this could happen.

Ellie dreamed of becoming a doctor, but those dreams are cut short when she has to drop out of med school to return home to hep take care of her father after he has a stroke. She and her sister, Amelia do their best to make their father comfortable and Ellie takes a job as a paramedic. Life is predictable and boring until the night she answers a 911 call that takes her to her sister’s home. Both Amelia and her husband have been shot in what appears to be a home invasion. With Amelia in the hospital clinging to life, Ellie begins the task of finding out what really happened to her sister and why. The answers will reveal things about her family she never, knew, never even suspected. Bleeker is really good at character development, so readers actually care about Ellie and her family and have a vested interest in what happens to them
