Modern, up-to-date constitutional analysis books are a huge gap in our collection at my library, both in YA and adult non-fiction. This book is really well written, organized, and really readable. We bought several copies.

This tome shows us how the founding fathers grappled while writing and ratifying the constitution and how many of the important political issues of our day can be traced to this document.

FAULT LINES IN THE CONSTITUTION by Cynthia Levinson and Sanford Levinson tells the story of the framers, their fights, and the flaws that affect us today.

This compelling work of nonfiction explores the connection between today’s political issues and the US Constitution. The book addresses both well-known along with lesser-known stories about why the framers of the Constitution chose their words and their impact today.

Librarians will find this well-research work of nonfiction to be an important addition to the US history collection. Teachers will find it a valuable resource in connecting past events to issues in the news today.

Usually all kids learn about the constitution is the names of a couple of the signers, the governmental structure, a few important amendments, and maybe the preamble. It quickly becomes one of those dry documents that we accept as a fact but otherwise ignore. This book pushes the reader to examine not only the text of the Constitution but it's historical context and implications. The Levinsons point out several inherent failings and short-sighted elements. We are lead to believe in school that the framers were whole hearted believers on this document, that our government is perfectly formed. Books like this one show us several other ways to organize it, that our entire system is built on an uneasy compromise.
All told, this book is too much to absorb at once. It would make a great supplement to regular curriculum, though.

This book was very informative and I learned a lot! I think it would make a great resource for schools and classrooms. I did think it was a bit dry in places and could have been a bit more entertaining. Good for grades 6 and up.

This was a timely look at the history of the Constitution and some of the issues or "fault lines" that have appeared over the years. It is extremely current
and includes the Trump election as well as issues during the last several presidencies. While timely and informative I don't think it is a good fit for the list.
Great for a junior high or high school government class though

Hands down one of the most influential, thought provoking books I have read in years. Fault lines is a book that I will keep on hand and refer to often. I will (and have already) encourage educators to provide this book as part of their study on US History and the Constitution.
Levinson does an amazing job of telling the full story of the Constitution being sure to represent each and every voice. She has incredible factual knowledge about past and present events and lays it out in a clear, concise way.
The world needs more books and more author's like this. I applaud both author and publishing company for putting this book into the world.
