There are too many good bible study books available to waste your time on this one.

It started out great with many inspirational bible quotes and explanation of prayer. However, the author lost me when Dutch told accounts of loved ones praying for the deceased to rise from the dead.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This powerful book on prayer is short and to the point. While it is largely about intercessory prayer, Dutch Sheets says the most important thing we can do is to to spend quality time with God; requests for others and ourselves, are a part of prayer, they aren’t the most important part.

This book is very uplifting and encouraging. It is one of those books that left me feeling as if I was ready to step up to the plate and pray more. I enjoyed Dutch Sheets style of writing and the mix of quotes from the Bible, testimonies about how God has worked in the lives of different people from various walks of life and prayers that go along with the chapter.

I felt the book offered me a lot of encouragement, and I definitely saw a need for more quality time with God after reading the book.

The author makes it clear at the beginning of the book the that motivation for prayer must be relationship—communing with God. It should be getting to know God better, the same as when a husband and a wife court each other and grow closer the longer they are together.
Prayer should not primarily be petitions to God for ourselves or others, but it should be a two- sided relationship in which we get to know God better and He gets to know us.
We are given a testimony about when the author is told to tell a whole village that he's going to pray for a mentally disturbed girl in Jesus' name and that through Jesus the evil powers that are controlling her will be broken and that what he is preaching about (the Gospel) is true - then God heals her and the whole village is saved!
God asks us to pray in Jesus' name so that we are depending on what Jesus has done, not on our own worthiness.
The topic of intercession is mentioned frequently throughout the book, there are many examples of people's lives being supernaturally protected by Angels, even to the fact that there were 11 intercessors and God sent 11 angels to protect a missionary in China from bandits!
God needs His people to be intercessors for lost loved ones, desperate situations, and for nations and world systems!
Dutch Sheets not only gives examples of how to pray and petition God, but he also gives thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter to insure a person's understanding of the concept of prayer that is being discussed.
This book will not only encourage you to pray, it will give you the motivation to pray over people and situations and your trust in God will be increased!
