Great book! I like the female empowerment message. The illustrations were bold and colorful. A great recommendation for fractured fairy tales lovers.

This is such a fun book. A fractured fairytale always brings a smile to faces. This is a modern-day version of a classic. Cinderella is not swept away by the handsome prince to rule as Queen in his kingdom but takes matters into her own hands and crowns herself Queen of her own destiny. It's so great to read books where girl-power rules and girl's celebrate their unique identity.

The story starts out like the original tale but soon morphs into one where Cinderella drools over the Prince pictured in a magazine. She wants desperately to go to the ball and meet with him. She calls up a very unconventional Fairy Godmother who magically dresses her, not in haute couture, but in you've got to be kidding garb, for the elegant occasion. Cinderella longs to live out her own fairytale dream but in this outfit? Oh my! She seems to be all set according to her fashion designer. Her carriage is a turnip with a variety of weird animals pulling it along and the castle destination is nothing like she imagined. She does manage to get to the ball furry slippers and all and finally ends up in the arms of the Prince. Dear me!!! Pictures can be deceiving and this guy is definitely NOT her type...ever!!! Up-close and personal with him is not a pretty site to behold. Reality sets in and she dismisses the until-death-do-us-part syndrome tout suite and makes her escape ....... she's a goner!!!

She decides to take fate into her own hands and write her own happily-ever-after ending. This tale of empowerment will inspire and encourage independent thinking in girls and cheer them on to be exactly what they want their life to be.

The illustrations are whimsical, humorous with extremely eye-popping colours. The whole vibe of the book is over-the-top fun! This book teaches girls a valuable life lesson... yes you can, and I highly recommend it.

In this delightfully bizarre adaptation of Cinderella, she realizes that the Prince isn't exactly what he's cracked up to be, and that she has the power to take control of her life and pursue her own awesome career.

This fun feminist take on a classic is highly recommended, although the illustrations were at times a bit difficult to decipher and lackluster in telling the story.

Pros: It is a unique Cinderella retelling, fantasy world built-in the story (my favorite part of the story), the last three pages of this book which makes me wish that it would have started with Cinderella leaving Prince Charming. Then the rest of the story could have been her discovering herself in the fantasy world around her.

Cons: I found the last three pages of this book more interesting than the all the pages before it.

I was provided with an ARC of this book by Netgallery and the publisher, so I can give an honest review. I will be really honest I had a lot of hopes for this book when I read the title. The sad part was I really did not like this story. It was slow and just way out there. My kids loved the pictures but didn't enjoy the story as well. They thought it was too out there I am sure. I don't recommend reading this book unless you like stories that are out there.

A modern version of the classic tale, I absouluy loved this one. The illustrations were wonderful and the storyline was great and even really entertained me, so I'm sure it will really entertain younger children. I would really consider buying a physical copy of this book just for the illustrations alone.

This modern telling of a fairytale classic is very far from the original story of Cinderella. The story itself is fun and adventurous, and the illustrations are really good. This modern take is geared towards women and children of today's generation, a story that showcases empowered and strong women who can make their own choices and decisions. I feel that my daughter's will enjoy the story and share Cinderella's sense of adventure and freedom to make her own choices. I received this as a free ARC from Tundra Books, Penguin Random House Canada, on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Would have liked to see a more ethnic nontraditional take on Cinderella (instead of blonde and light skinned). This story of Cinderella is as nontraditional as I've seen considering the fairy GM is green and there are horses and a turnip carriage. That said, I enjoyed the goofiness and the fact that at the end Cinderella attends a job fair for a different future.

This fresh twist on the old story, Cinderella is not your average girl in waiting. She is smart and surprisingly honest, offering a bit of entertaining snark when her pumpkin is replaced by a turnip and her prince is less than advertised. She is a brave, independent young lady, fearless when it comes to finding the way that satisfies her needs. Find the old Cinderella on your son's/daughter's book shelves and replace it with this version.

This is a funny version of the original Cinderella story set to modern day thinking. Just because she's stuck in a dead-end job doesn't mean she needs to pin all her hopes on landing a prince. The illustrations reflect artwork from current cartoons and would be appealing to a young reader. I especially liked the ending of this one. You go girl!

I will definitely be adding this to my niece's, "Little Feminst Library." It's a great, modern take on a classic tale. The characters are familiar, but perhaps the perfect dress and Prince Charming aren't what will make Cinderella happy after all. The art is quirky and adorable, and I like the message that it sends to young girls, to make their own dreams come true. Well done.

I read this story with my 7 year old daughter. She really liked the illustrations. As far as the story line. She understood the beginning, but got lost at the conclusion of the story. I believe if she was a little older, she would have enjoyed it better. Because of the nontraditional telling of the classic tale.

Cinderella wanted to go to the annual prince's ball so she calls a fairy godmother to help her. When she arrives she's not what Cinderella expected. She makes her a peculiar dress and doesn't give her glass slippers. She even makes her a coach out of a turnip instead of a pumpkin. At the ball there is a dance off to win a solo dance with the prince. When Cinderella danced it was horrible. She shoe flew off her foot and hit the prince in the head waking him up. When he sees her he falls in love. He picks Cinderella for the solo dance. When she sees the prince up close she runs for the hills. She stumbles across a sign for a girls only job fair. She discovers all the different careers that she can have.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a funny take on Cinderella. This is the perfect book for a young girl to learn that she can be anything she wants to be. She doesn't need a prince to be happy. I liked how Cinderella was dressed n a crazy dress and dances so poorly that her clothing fell off. I like when a classic tale is taken and flipped.

4/5 ⭐

As a parent of a girl, I liked the idea that girls could be more than pretty dresses and a trophy wife. However my daughter and I both found this story a bit too weird for us. She had a distorted view of fairy tales from books, but her "fairy" tale wasn't like the books, she had strange clothes and was not impressed with what she saw. And at one point she danced her clothes and a shoe off. Really strange.

I really loved this picture book. The illustrations were bright, detailed, and fun. The twists on the fairy tale where everything, including the prince, isn't perfect made me laugh. It lampoons the seemingly perfect people shown in magazines by showing their flaws in real life. I really enjoyed the ending, which shows that a romantic relationship is not necessarily the happy ending for all heroines. Great fun!

Callie's Kid Review: 3 stars. I might recommend it to my friends. The reading level was right but the font was weird and hard to read. I thought the pictures were crazy and cool. I thought the story was weird but funny because she saw the prince and he was better in the magazine and then saw the job fair. The ending was cool because she's flying her own dragon.

Mommy Review: 3 stars. CINDERELLA AND THE FURRY SLIPPERS by Davide Cali is tough to review because there is so much going on that I wondered if it would be above my daughter's head. Once I explained the job fair posters (and what a job fair was) to her and , she really enjoyed it and understood the final page better than I did. The pictures are bold and funny but many of the references are aimed at readers older than those reading the book - like the magazine references and the job fair jobs.
