Oh this book is hilarious, especially the illustrations! I am a lover of all things Cinderella and this book does not disappoint. From the stepsisters to the fairy godmother and the prince who just isn't quite what was advertised, this book is an awesome new take on the classic Cinderella!

This version of Cinderella starts out as the classic story of wicked step-sisters partying while Cinderella does all the work, although the jobs she does are a little more personal like doing their hair, painting their toenails etc. She falls in love with the prince that she sees in a magazine and she wants to go meet him at the ball. When she calls up the fairy godmother for help, things are just a bit different from the original fairytale. The dress isn’t as nice, the slippers are made of fur, not glass, her carriage is a turnip and the horses are various creatures like moose and llamas. Once she arrives at the ball, she finds out it is a dance competition, and the prize is a dance with the prince. Once she meets him up close she decides that he is not what she wants and she runs as fast as she can away from the ball. She ends up going to a job fair for women only where she can become a scorpion raiser, a tractor driver, or even a dragon tamer. This is not your typical girl meets prince, girl marries prince and lives happily ever after. It is about being powerful, being yourself, and not relying on a prince. The illustrations are fun and whimsical, as well as vivid and somewhat humourous. This twist on the classic fairytale should keep kids listening and laughing as well as teaching a valuable lesson. A great book for public, school, classroom and family libraries.

We all pretty much know the Cinderella story. This book puts a twist on it. Everything you know abut Cinderella goes out the window except the Mean Stepmother and Stepsisters. Nothing is the same. Instead of a pumpkin coach she rides in a turnip coach. Instead of glass slippers she has fuzzy slippers. instead of falling in love with the Prince she doesn't like him. She decides to get a career and be single, and lives happily ever after.

I personally liked this story. My Grand Daughter was sick and spent the day with me. We read the story and she loved it as well. The illustrations are as great as the story.

What do I love? I love strong women. I love strong women in fairy tales. I love strong women in fairy tales who make good decisions and don't end up marrying the dang prince.

This book, oh, it has it all. Cinderella starts off the same way, with the evil step-mother, and sisters, and hard work, but when she calls up a fairy godmother, she doesn't get quite what she expected. Her pumpkin carriage is a turnip. Her horses are all sorts of odd creatures, and her shoes are made of fur. (Note that in the original French version of the story, they were also made of fur, but I digress.).

Suffice it to say, the Cinderella decides she does not want the prince, once she meets him close up, she does not want the ball, and she does not want to get married at all, and instead ends up going to a job fair, by the end, where she can be a scorpion raiser, a tractor driver, or even a dragon tamer.

Bright colors, and the humorous take on the classic fairy tale should keep kids entertained.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

OMG OMG OMG, this was just absolutely brilliant. I thought at first that it would just go as all the Cinderella stories, and in a way it did, but in an other way it totally flipped the story around and I laughed my butt off.

At first everything is just like all the Cinderella stories. We meet a girl who looks hapless and who is working her butt off for her stepsisters and stepmother, but then suddenly this girl takes matters in her own hands and just calls her own fairy Godmother. Yep, she just takes matters in her own hands. If only she knew what that fairy would do to her. :P

The prince was also a delight, when x happened I thought, oh here we go, the story is back on the rails. But then, BAM, suddenly surprise! Of course I won't tell you what, haha, no, I will keep the surprise as it is.

The ending? I loved it, I haven't seen a Cinderella story ending in this way, so I am giving extra points for it. It definitely fit the Cinderella in the story, and I was so happy for her.

The art? Fabulous! Fantastic! I was already hoping (when I saw the cover) that it would keep that style, and it did! It is colourful, fun, funky. I just realised that the art is by an illustrator that I already know, she also illustrated Snow White and the 77 Dwarfs (yes another retelling), and oh my, I just realised it is also by the same author! *shock*

I guess I will have to add this book to my collection when it comes out, and I am hoping that this duo will make many more retelling books!

Highly recommended!

What an adorable and quirky adaptation. I loved it.

"Cinderella and the Furry Slippers" is a modern version of the traditional tale. This poor girl, with the bad stepmother and the awful sisters, dreams with the prince she sees in the magazines. When a ball is announced, she makes a call for a godmother and asks her for a dress as she has seen in a fashion magazine…from now on nothing in this book is as we come to expect (not even the slippers!).
In the end, Cinderella runs from the disgusting prince and finds a job fair where she discovers new life perspectives. She finally feels empowered and independent, a princess of today to inspire nowadays girls.
The illustrations complement well the text: they are both great fun! This is a short tale for children who have a sense of humor and like to be surprised.
I was provided with an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher, so I could give an honest review.

The book is hilarious! Just the sort of thing that has me laughing nonstop with the punch lines! I do wish it had been a longer story. I can imagine what fun it would have been to read it! Unconventional and funny!

I want a copy of this book in hardcover for my personal collection. It is that good. Cinderella starts out as the classic story of wicked step-sisters partying while Cinderella does all the work. Then she asks her fairy godmother for a dress to go to the ball, and that is where the story takes on new life. Nothing is like it is in the magazine. I mean nothing! The dress isn’t as nice and the slippers are furry instead of glass. The ball is a dance competition, and the prize is not as lovely as it appears from the pages of a magazine. The ending just shoots this title over the moon. It is not your typical princess book, it’s about being powerful, being yourself, and not relying on a prince. The illustrations are fun and whimsical and just help make this a 5 star read.
