I enjoyed the life adventure the main character found herself on and the various twist and turns in her story. There were a couple of parts that caused me to stay up way later than I should have done to see what happened and a few audible gasps escaped me. This was a well-told story and I enjoyed reading it. I have been to many of the places mentioned in France but as a child, reading this makes me want to return as an adult.

This was a story of new life. I was amazed at how many emotions I could feel just reading one book. Marianne is desperate to end her life, having been married to Lothar for over 50 years. His domineering and tight-fisted nature has slowly tortured Marianne, to the point where she wants to end it all – hence my feelings of sadness and despair.
Marianne’s plans are intercepted by a stranger and she makes her way to Brittany to a new life. She is soon surrounded by all the things that she has missed in her life.
The characters are all so well developed and intertwined into Marianne’s story. It is through their stories, that she is transformed from the depressed woman to one full of hope. Ms George also provides such a vivid description of the town and its surrounds, that it is difficult to not become totally immersed in the story.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I found the beginning of this book rather depressing. The novel was one that if I was not reviewing would not appeal to me. I did however enjoy the quirky characters and the story was interesting. There are many who live their lives to support others hoping that making another happy will lead to them having happiness. Life is short and this book highlights that we need to be true to ourselves and our needs. This may appeal to a reader who is looking for a light romantic novel.
