Ive read quite a few Amish books by Kathleen Fuller and THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is exactly why I love her stories. THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is the second book in the Amish Letters series. After reading THE PROMISE OF A LETTER I will read every book Kathleen Fuller has written. I instantly felt like I was sitting in Birch Creek, Ohio helping Leanna try and figure out what direction her life was heading to. She does find herself among the gossip and untrue rumors from the community because of her unconventional ways. THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is filled with just as much hope as it is with uncertain feelings. My emotions were all over the place while reading and I was even holding my breath at some parts that I was afraid to keep going. How much more heartache and grief could Leanna put up with?

THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is filled with struggling with the choices we have to make and once you start reading, it will be impossible to put down. Keep the tissues close by because this will be one heck of an emotional journey. Kathleen Fuller does a wonderful job of teaching the reader what Leanna is going through. She works in a repair shop and roller-blades are her chosen mode of transportation. Definitely not your typical Amish heroine! Kathleen Fuller really knows how to write about family drama, heartbreak, and forgiveness. I can not wait to read more by this wonderful and heart tugging author.

THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is filled with likable and relatable characters that will find their way into the reader’s heart. Kathleen has a way of grabbing your heart and just squeezing it until you swear it is going to burst. Then she hands it back to you, slightly bruised but still in tact. How an author can do that is beyond me, but I love when it happens. I am so happy that Roman came back to make amends with his brother Daniel after her grandma’s death. THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is going to stay in my heart for a long time to come. My heart is still aching for Leanna after all she went through when her world came crashing down. Kathleen does a great job of keeping you involved in the stories she tells. Grab a copy of this book and enjoy!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and wish I would have read it sooner. I also should have probably read the first book in the series to get an idea of the characters. Not entirely necessary but it would have helped. I would recommend this to friends and family who enjoy reading Amish fiction and want something a little lighter and not so heavy on the romance.

Thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Roman and Leanna have worked together before when they both worked for Roman's brother. It is so unusual for an Amish woman to be a small appliance engine repair woman. But Roman thinks that Leanna is bossy and Leanna thinks Roman lack appreciation. roman is not sure he wants to stay Amish, Then Leanna and Roman become friends can they become more?

In today's modern world filled with technology, emails, texts, and emojis, the art of letter writing seems to be a thing of the past, but the Amish use it still. The Amish enjoy handwriting letters, folding them into envelopes, carefully placing the stamp in the upper-right corner, & walking to their mailbox and neatly placing it inside and lifting the flag, then excitedly waiting for a reply. A letter written by Roman's grandmother has him rethinking his plan of leaving the Amish to become English.

What is a good Amish story without a little romance? Readers follow Roman as he works with Leanna and feels the pull of attraction. Is that feeling going to be enough to keep Roman within the Amish faith and community, or will he decide to leave?

I am rating this book 5*****stars.

I highly recommend it to readers.

Always remember this, God loves you, and I love you. No matter your path in life, those things will always be true. Even as a young boy you were your own person. Smart, stubborn, always trying to find ways to make things better. Easier. But God never promised us an easy life. Struggle and pain is what makes us grow, and it also shows how we need the Lord in our lives. Escaping isn't the answer. Facing things is. You can be the person God created you to be and still be part of the community and family that loves. It breaks my heart that you have isolated yourself from us.

A grandmother's letter to her grandson is full of promise and love. A sweet continuation of the first book that brought Jalon Chupp and Phoebe now brings an unlikely pair together Jalon's sister Leanna and Roman. Leanna is not your typical young Amish woman waiting to be married. She lives on her brother's farm in the grandparents home and works for an Amish machine shop owned by Daniel, the eldest brother of Roman. Leanna loves her job and the family she works for, however, when Amish gossip makes the round, Leanna must learn what it means to turn the other cheek.

The brother's are estranged but with their grandmother's letter of promise, they are brought together when they need each other the most. Both brothers are fighting the need however, with circumstances and the support of strong Amish women, they fulfill the promise of a grandmother's love for her grandsons.

With the walls that Roman has built around his heart, Leanna heals her own heart with the loss of her job as she finds purpose and with patience and love.

I truly love the characters that Fuller brings to life in this Amish Community. She deals with alcoholism and other issues that each family encounters. The prideful heart and the heart that yearns for acceptance. There is real connection with these characters that had me in tears and whooping for joy when the heart was open to love. Loved it!

A Special Thank You to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Being a smidge unconventional myself I really identified with the character of Leanna (coincidence on the name???). I also loved the fact that even though I never read the first book in this series I was able to enjoy this book as a standalone book. The Christian principles of forgiveness and regaining/rebuilding trust were also handled well. I will be on the look out for the next book in this series.

Hook, Line, and Sinker!

Get your favorite beverage and snack and be ready! Ready for what? The solar eclipse of 2017 is gone. What do we look forward to now? Why it’s Kathleen Fuller’s latest in her Amish Letters series, The Promise of a Letter! And believe me, you’ll need a snack for sustenance as you flip pages into the night. It is THAT good!

The Promise of a Letter follows Leanna Chupp. Leanna is different in so many ways: She speaks her mind, she’s tall (six feet!), AND she’s a mechanic! What?! Yes, a female Amish mechanic! She basks in being single and is ready for a life full of meaning…and she doesn’t need a man for that.

Then there’s Roman Raber. He’s a professional fence-jumper…in the Amish sense of the term. He’s in the English world, but receives a letter that is life-altering. When he visits his brother (and Leanna’s boss), there is something there. They knew each other, briefly, when he was part of the Birch Creek church….and skipped out of town. He can’t be trusted…can he? Read and find out!

I was given The Promise of a Letter in exchange for my honest review. What a tremendous read! While the character from the first book (Written in Love) are mentioned, it can easily be read as a stand-alone. But reading in chronological order will create more depth to the Promise of a Letter characters. Fuller had me hook, line, and sinker in the first chapter. The storylines were intriguing and honest. One heart-wrenching storyline is spot-on, I can attest. This is a definite must-read – grab your copy today!

The Promise of a letter is a story of coming of self, and others coming of you (Leanna) opposites attracting and renewing of broken relationships. The letters are used to help bring forth reconciliation, which was sorely needed and a long time coming. This book pulls at your heartstrings and makes you fall in love with the characters and you get so involved in their lives. The story is one that pulls your heart out of your chest and has it touched in so many ways you don't know if you want it back in or not. This book is affectionate, brilliant, courageous, and dramatic yet exciting. Nice book what a dichotomy to have to work through but do they?

PROMISE. OF A LETTER. by Kathleen..Fuller book 2 in Amish Letters series, by Thomas Nelson Publishers.
Leanna maybe Amish, but very unconventional, but loving life, as she sees it. Things change when Roman, comes back to town, always been a loner, didn't fit the way, of either Amish or English. As Leanna and Roman work together, things change for both of them. An interesting book, of how two unconventional people, could work, and maybe love even for them. Readers will enjoy another good book by Kathleen. Given ARC by Net Galley for my oluntary review and my honest opinion.

Back to Birch Creek with Jalon and Phoebe and their new fledgling family and a host of community and friends. Jalon's sister Leanna is still working for their friend and neighbor Daniel in his small engine repair shop. Not a normal occupation for a female but as a confirmed bachelor (her words not mine) it's what she is passionate about and what she loves. In the first book, 'Written in Love', where it all started, we met Daniel's brother Roman, briefly. We knew enough that he was a thorn in Leanna's side as well as his brother's. After the passing of their Grossmammi he's back to attempt to make amends and reconcile with his brother. For better or worse, for the love of this woman he is bound to make this work. But regaining trust is hard, and Roman's ability to stick with it is lacking.

I'll be honest, the brewing romance (come on it's not like you didn't know it was coming) between Roman and Leanna was a bit awkward. I frequently feel this way in more romantic type books. Why is so hard to translate the beginning of falling for someone into words? But then again, we are talking about two awkward adults. Two people who had sworn off traditional roles of family and marriage and kidlets. For two sorta, almost different reasons but still. It's not only finding their way after the disaster that was their first meeting but also dealing with new feelings for themselves and deciding if it's worth the potential hurt to put their trust into another. It's complicated. And hard. And well, it's real life.

I really really liked this book. I love these characters, I love seeing these two specifically come into their own and find a way. I feel like their romance was too fast and the wedding too quick but then I usually do. I loved the side story of Adam and Karen too. I can't wait to see where the next book is going to take us, though I've got a gut feeling it's with Ivy. You know, Leanna's bestie. Six months, I can wait six months right?

The second installment of An Amish Letters Novel is one which does an excellent job on the subject of forgiveness and trust. I found the story to be emotional and well written. The author takes a subject that is hard for many and walks characters gently through the steps with compassion and understanding. One of the hardest things I've found is to forgive and trust. It has been a stumbling block in my walk with God. After reading this story, I find myself feeling at peace knowing what I must do to be free from the bondage that has held me back for so long.

I want to start with the character Roman because I can relate to him so well. Having grown up in a home where there was no love was very difficult for me. I resented my parents and it hurt to know I was never wanted. Roman has decided he should leave the Amish and start over somewhere else. . He didn't have a good childhood and I think the hurt of having parents that never showed any affection was very difficult for him and his brother. It was nice to know that their grandmother stepped in and showed them that they were loved and wanted. When Roman receives a letter from his grandmother, he finds his life changed forever. She had one last wish and wanted Roman to promise to fulfill it. Can you imagine how hard it was for Roman to go home and face his brother?

Leanna is a great character who is very smart , has a keen eye for working on mechanical things like engines and other things. It is not an ideal job for a woman among the Amish but I loved how the author showed how Leanna could do the work with no problem. She is happy at her job until gossip starts up about her. We hear it spoke of many times at church, but gossip seems to get hold of people and before you know it, it is spread like wildfire. What people forget is that gossip can be hurtful and can destroy a person. I thought the author did a wonderful job showing readers how gossip can change an innocent person's life.

There are some very heartbreaking moments in the story that will test Barbara and Daniel's faith. I loved the moments they shared as they grew closer during a tragedy. Can Roman find his way back to his brother and reconcile? Will the brothers be able to forgive each other and theirselves? Do Roman and Leanna find a way to start more than a friendship between them? Don't miss this beautiful story of redemption, trust , faith and forgiveness.

I received a copy of this book from The Fiction Guild. The review is my own opinion.

The Promise of a Letter by Kathleen Fuller is the second An Amish Letters Novel. It is August in Birch Creek, Ohio. Roman Raber left his Amish community of Draperville, but things have not gone as planned. He wishes to go to college to become an engineer, but he cannot get the funding he needs. Roman receives a missive telling him his beloved grandmother has passed away. She left him a letter suggesting that he reconcile with his brother, Daniel. Roman knows it will not be easy, but he does know it is the right decision. Roman knows that Daniel will not make the task easy, but Roman is hoping Daniel will forgive him in time.

Leanna Chupp is an unusual Amish woman. She is twenty-four, 6-foot-tall, unmarried and works at Daniel Raber’s small engine repair shop. Leanna enjoys her work (has a knack for it) and is happy with her independence. Shortly after Roman returns to the community and starts working at Raber’s Small Engine Repair, Leanna finds herself out of a job without a warning or a reason. An accident brings Roman and Leanna together to work towards a mutual goal. They slowly get to know each other, and Leann begins to envision a different future for herself. But is Roman ready to commit to the Amish community? Will Daniel be able to forgive his brother?

The Promise of a Letter is a well-written, has a steady pace and beautiful setting. I liked the characters especially Leanna Chupp. I found her to be a refreshing change. I appreciated that she had an unusual occupation and that she was not afraid to be herself. It was nice that the pair become friends and get to know each other before the romance develops. The story had good life lessons (giving and accepting forgiveness, power of prayer, holding on to your faith, gossip). My favorite was the harmful effects of rumors/gossip. The Christian element is noticeable, but it was light (handled very well). My rating for The Promise of a Letter is 4 out of 5 stars (I liked it). I did feel that the ending was rushed. The Promise of a Letter is a sweet, heartwarming story with good messages. I am looking forward to reading the next book in An Amish Letters series that will contain Ivy’s story.

The Promise of a Letter is the second book in the Amish Letter series. Even though this is part of a series it can easily be read and understood as a stand alone. Reconciliation is what Roman and his brother's grandmother prayed for. In her last time on earth she knew it was her time to leave her earthly body soon and she didn't tell anyone because she was ready to see her husband who had passed twenty years earlier. She never stopped praying for a reconciliation between Roman and his older brother Daniel and each was delivered a letter telling them so after her death. Roman left the Amish way of life and Daniel was glad because as the older brother he felt responsible for his younger brother. He knew it was time for Roman to stand on his own two feet. Grandmother's death brings Roman back to the Amish community of Birch Creek. He doesn't plan on staying long especially with memories of working with employee, Leanna Chupp at his brother's machine shop. She is six feet tall and outspoken. He just doesn't need that but he does need a job once he decides to stay in the community awhile. They find themselves working together again and things start to change between. This book is heartwarming but a bit heartbreaking at the same time. I very much enjoyed it and look forward to reading book three when it releases. I am never disappointed when I read a Kathleen Fuller book!

In Kathleen’s “The Promise of a Letter”, Leanna Chupp has a job most men usually have – a mechanic repairing small engines. She’d much rather work in the shop than work on her domesticated skills of cooking, cleaning, and catching a man’s eye. I love how she skates to and from work. I see Amish quite a bit on rollerblades up in Lancaster County. If I’d try that, I’d be on the ground in no time. I could just picture Leanna swaying back and forth in her travels. Roman is a piece of work. He comes back after receiving word of his grandmother’s death – too late for her funeral though. He then gets the letter that starts him out on a path he doesn’t really want to take. But during all of this, Kathleen’s writing sucked me into this story so much that I didn’t want to put my Kindle down. I wanted to know what happened next and went to bed quite late two nights trying to find out what Leanna does about a rumor being spread about her and her boss and how that gets handled and how Roman handles the reconciling part his grandmother requests and his feelings for Leanna.

I definitely give Kathleen Fuller five stars for this excellent story. I loved the characters and all the emotions I felt while reading page after page. And now I want to curl up and write a few more letters to my friends that I’ve neglected the past few months. I want them to have that happy feeling when they open up the mailbox and see something that is not a bill or advertisement like I do when I get my mail. Thanks to Kathleen for keeping letter writing real. And in the Amish community, letters are really a big thing. The Amish love their mail. When we are visiting our Amish friends and their mail lady has stopped by, someone immediately goes out to the mailbox to get the mail, and they go through it even with us sitting there. It’s quite funny – where I’d leave the mail until company left, they open the mail right up and read their letters. Gives us a chuckle every time.

You can read “The Promise of a Letter” as a stand alone novel, but why not pick up the first novel in this series, “Written in Love”? I find it more fun and interesting when I start with the first book in a series. The third book in this series, “Words from the Heart”, will be available in February of next year, so you have plenty of time to catch up on this series.

This is another great book...by a wonderful writer, Kathleen Fuller! Her books are easy to read and to get into...they make you feel like you are right in the story...a part of it! And when a book can do that to you...I feel...it is absolutely wonderful! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading Amish/Christian Fiction/Romance...I am sure that you will enjoy it!!!

Leanna is one of my favorite protagonists! She doesn't apologize for being different (and that's something, when you're not a naturally domestic kind of gal, but you *are* Amish), and she doesn't resent being different, either. Leanna uses her talents to work in a mechanical shop, and she loves it! But author Fuller doesn't stop there; she fleshes out the full character of Leanna - a loving sibling, a fun caregiver, and a fiercely loyal friend.

And then we meet Roman. He's Amish too, sort of. And he is also a mechanic, sort of. He's on a journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and reconciliation with his brother.

Fuller does a great job illustrating modern Amish life, touching on family dynamics, spirituality, unconventional career choices, education, and romance. I appreciate that Fuller wrote a strong, feminine character that performed a "man's" job, without making Leanna into a stereotype or a mascot for feminist politics. And I am pleased that there was a happily ever after for more than one couple.
