What a great book! Author Kathleen Fuller hit this one out of the park. Although this is Book 2, it works as a standalone. I haven’t read Book 1 in An Amish Letters series and had no trouble following the story line.

Forgiveness is a common thread throughout. We see that even when it’s difficult and not “earned”, we can still forgive the way God instructs us. And with forgiveness comes relationships mended in a wonderful way.

This story will thrust you into Amish life. The descriptions are so well done you’ll feel as if you’re really watching things unfold. The characters are well developed and they struggle with real issues. Such a simple theme made for a heartfelt read. I highly recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

After loving Written in Love by Kathleen Fuller, I was looking forward to the next book in her Amish Letter’s series, The Promise of a Letter, to release.

What struck me in the first book was the relationship that came out of written letters between two Amish. In The Promise of a Letter, we see how a letter can impact a family.

Roman, wanting to do more with his life, is ready to leave his Amish ways. His grandmother, who he loved, dies and left a letter urging him to reconcile with his brother. He decides to go back home, but he doesn’t plan on staying long.

Leanna Chupp was a very interesting character in this book. She works in a small engine repair shop, which is unusual for an Amish girl. Since she works with men on a regular basis, a rumor about her starts being spread. My heart felt for her as she had to deal with the rumor and the pain it caused her. There was an important lesson that comes out through this in the story.

Kathleen did an amazing job with this story! I’m impressed how she took something so simple, like writing letters, and turned it into an engaging story that transported me right into the pages of the book. Now I can’t wait until Words from the Heart releases!

"'Dear Roman, Here is a place for you to. . . write down your dreams, and give your prayers to God. Remember, He has promised to teach and guide us, and He will always be with you. Never forget that. Love, Grossmammi" (22)

The promise of a grandmother's love in a letter about the promise of God's love started on a prodigal's journey in The Promise of a Letter by Kathleen Fuller. The first book in the series, Written in Love still tickles my booknerd senses, so I was quite excited to meet the characters again in this second installment. And I was not disappointed.

"There was a place for everything and everything had a place."(99)

First, lets talk about our prodigal. When I say prodigal, it should be loosely interpreted. Roman is unsure of his future, and having felt "stuck" most of his life, he's hoping a for a chance to find a way. When he received his grandmother's letter, and her last wish, he embarks on making amends with his estranged brother. He arrives in Birch Creek misunderstood and ready to take flight - at least that's what others surmise. Yet, that was not the plan at all, at least not God's plan.

"'I see what's reflected in mei life. Whenever I try to do something, whenever I have a plan, it gets thwarted.' 'Then maybe you're working too hard to fulfill yer plan instead of God's.'" (146)

Then we have Leanna, whom I just find eccentric in a good way and refreshing. She's six feet tall, independent and very aware of what she is capable of and what she wants. Almost an exact opposite of what we see in Roman, yet, no matter how assure she seems on the outside, there may still be something that troubles her. I really enjoyed how their friendship developed in the course of the novel to what readers can clearly see as love growing. Not only between Leanna and Roman, other characters and their secondary storyline gave readers more than one message, and more than one focus. And with that, I've come to relish in this series tremendously. I feel like I know these characters on a personal level.

"Understanding exactly where I belong. There's freedom in that. True freedom." (281)

In all, The Promise of a Letter more than exceeds my expectations for a Kathleen Fuller novel, a second novel in the Amish Letters series, and my love for Amish Fiction with the hope for a message that finds a permanent fixture in my life. Yes, The Promise of a Letter is all that and more.

"God's the one who worked on their hearts. . . let God work on yers. You might find something you've been missing all along." (211)

What a unique Amish fiction story: Male leads, a female lead that goes against "normal" Amish females and a storyline that includes tons of gossip, bitterness and unforgiveness. It all gets worked out in the end. Characters are beautifully developed and you can't help but fall in love with them. I did have a little bit of a hard time at the beginning. I had to plug through the rather slow start and a whole slew of extra characters that I couldn't remember where they belonged. I didn't need their names. It just confused me more at the beginning trying to keep everyone straight. Other than that this was a great story. Quick read (I read it in a day). Can't wait to read the last book in this series.

I absolutely loved Leanna! She is a unique character that owns her eccentricities and enjoys her independence. I admired her confidence, yet in this story her confidence is deeply shaken when her life is turned upside down in more than one unforeseen way. The manner in which she deals with her new circumstances and new friendship with Roman shows her compassion and ability to forgive. I enjoyed seeing Roman's journey as he is searching for his place and purpose despite being the black sheep of the family. We also see the struggles of Roman's brother Daniel and his wife Barbara which are heartbreaking but also full of hope and God's grace. Even though Roman and Daniel's grandmother has passed away, she is a major influence in the book and the lives of these men as she encourages them via letter to reconcile and support each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and connecting with the characters! I can't wait to see what's next in the series!

This was a good but not great read. It was not just a typical Amish Fiction story. It was a pleasant story of love and redemption. It was a bit slow but overall, an enjoyable read.

Roman had left the Amish faith but after receiving a letter from his grandmother upon her death he decides to reconcile with his brother Daniel . Daniel had also received a letter from the grandmother. There is lots of heartache and family differences in this book. Anyone dealing with family problems will be able to relate. This is a sequel to Written in Love continuing with the story of Leanna, Jason's sister. Leanna is a very unique Amish woman and very likable. Highly recommended!

What an enjoyable story! Leanna is not a traditional Amish young woman. She dislikes cooking, cleaning, sewing, baking...the typical things Amish females do and enjoy, Rather, Leanna enjoys working with her hands repairing small motors, loving a challenge. She works for Jalon in his small engine repair shop. Unfortunately, the gossip of two busy bodies in the community cost Leanna her job. There is a good lesson on gossip in this story.
Jalon's brother, Roman, left the Amish community, but returns due to a letter with a last request from his recently deceased grandmother. She is the only family member who showed love to Jalon and Roman as they grew up. Their parents were very distant.
Will Jalon be able to forgive Roman and allow him to work with him in his shop? What will Leanna do now?
I was given a free ecopy of this book to read by the publisher, Thomas Nelson and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

his is the second book in The Amish Novels Series, and just as good as the first, in fact the people we learned to love are right here.
I adore it when a book continues with the folks we lived with in the first book, and this one will warm your heart. Phoebe and Jalon are now married and expecting a baby, and Leanna is working for Daniel, fixing motors, she is not a girly girl.
We catch up with Daniel and Barbara, and your heart will break for them. A very sad happening is a catalyst for bringing Roman back to Birch Creek, Ohio, and a reunion with Leanna, and if you are familiar, they were like oil and water.
Be ready to be absorbed into the Amish life in this community, whether you are sitting down for dinner, or playing in the yard with the children, and living their faith. The community has their share of gossips and like everywhere; they spread their damage by words, and we see how all are affected.
We are all called on by our faith to offer forgiveness, and as shown here it is not always easy, but satisfying when offered. Will Leanna and Daniel and Barbara be able to live their faith and forgive Roman?
Once you turn the first page you will be compelled to keep reading, and now I can’t wait for the next book in this series, Ivy’s!

This book is so easy to love! I really enjoyed the first book, Written In Love, but this one was my favorite of the two.
That’s in large part because I loved Leanna. I was drawn to her immediately and could easily imagine her skating to and from work and greeting her neighbors along the way. I liked that she works in a typically male dominated profession and is not too concerned with her lack of domestic skills. I think it is her confidence that I find appealing.
I was so happy to catch up with Phoebe and Jalon. Actually, we catch up with many characters in Birch Creek, which I loved since I’ve grown so fond of them. Of course there has to be conflict to make things interesting. Leanna is the subject of gossip within the community which creates all sorts of problems for not only her, but her friends as well.
When Roman returns home things become interesting and complicated. I found myself liking him much more than I expected to once I saw that he has a good heart and good intentions.
There are storylines in this book that will make you experience different emotions and that will make you realize that Kathleen Fuller is not only a terrific story-teller, but she creates unforgettable characters I’m already looking forward to the third book in the series.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I have to admit that when I decided to read it I read the description of if a bit lightly, and was not aware that the book was about an Amish community. As I have a policy not to judge a book by its cover I continued to read the book. I am really happy that I did. That the community is Amish just sets the tone for the book, it is not the story it self, which was my biggest concern in the beginning.

The book alternate between who's story we are following and it does it in a way that makes sense for the story. This way of storytelling just makes the book more interesting and not as confusing as it tends to be. What I liked most about the book was that it was not filled with distractions. The author have focused on the characters feelings and growth more than anything else. This made me invested in the story, and the little community intrigued me.

The story is slow compared to "modern" love stories. But this is an other thing which made me interested. The book was more about learning to know other people, the feelings and confusion which follows. Much more than the cliche boy meets girl, they fall in love, one makes a mistake, fight, make up and love again. This way of telling a story is why I do not read love stories any more, but the promise of a letter gave me new hope of the genre.

This is the only book I read in the series, and I did not feel that I was missing anything.

Roman Raber is straddling the fence -it's what the Amish would call one of their own who has one foot in the Amish community and the other in the English world- because he feels lost of who he is suppose to be. He feels he can't live up to his brother Daniel's expectations.

While Roman is fleeing Birch Creek, his beloved grandmother passes away, but not before she writes letters to each Roman and Daniel. Can her letters bring both brothers back together?

Leanna Chupp is a young, independent Amish lady, who is unconventional and unique amongst her community. She works for Daniel Raber in his small engine repair shop. Leanna is happy being single.

What happens when waging tongues wag untruths?
Will Roman come back into the fold of an Amish community?
Is there new beginnings in the air of Birch Creek, OH?

Kathleen Fuller has written an inspiring story of forgiveness, second chances, harshness of gossip, and faith. We all can use reminders of each of these for in our lives.

I am more than eager to read the third book in this series, "Words from the Heart", releasing February 2018. I also look forward to reading more book from Kathleen Fuller in the future.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from netgalley in return for my honest opinion of the book.

As with the first book, Written in love, I absolutely loved it, hard to put down, so happy for Leanna , was equally happy that the author did not change her to the conventional Amish woman, I as did Roman loved her just the way she is.

The Promise of a Letter is the fabulous second installment from the Amish Letter series. Roman has left his Amish home and has been thinking about going English. However, he receives word that his grandmother has passed away. She has left him a letter with her dying wish for Roman to come back home to Birch Creek and find a way to reconcile with his brother, Daniel. Reluctantly, he goes and hopes he will not be there for long. Daniel's female employee, Leanna, is not what most would think of when they think of a young Amish woman. She does find herself among the gossip and untrue rumors from the community because of her unconventional ways. When tragedy strikes, Roman and Leanna are forced to work with one another and find themselves at odds. Will this drive Roman further away from his Amish faith or will it keep him in Birch Creek forever?
I loved The Promise of a Letter. I was not sure what I thought of the main characters, Roman and Leanna, at first. Leanna is not the average Amish woman I am used to reading about in Amish Fiction. But I did come to love her and found it to be quite refreshing to find a unique character like her. Roman grew, too, grew on me quickly once I started to get to know him. The two learned important lessons: Forgiveness, Redemption, and Faith. Just a beautiful story with several scenes that brought tears to my eyes. I cannot wait to read the third book in the series.
Highly recommended.
5 plus stars.

When I was growing up, I went to a church that had three ways of joining--believer's baptism, the promise of a letter, or statement of faith. When this title came up on my reading list, I thought it might have something to do with joining a church. Boy, was I wrong! This is one of the best Amish fiction books I've ever read. One of the reasons I loved it was that the main character's name was Leanna--my daughter's name. It's not a common name, but to me, it's a beautiful name.

Leanna works for Daniel as a mechanic on small engines. She's part of the reason his business is so successful. When Daniel's wife hears a two women from their church talking in the grocery store about Leanna and Daniel--accusing them of having an affair, it moves Daniel to fire her, but he gives her no explanation.

The same day that Daniel fires Leanna, Daniel's brother, Roman, comes back, at the request of their recently deceased grandmother. She knows that there is a long-standing rift between Daniel and Roman and she knows that the only way for these two boys to heal from their upbringing is to heal their rift.

Kathleen Fuller writes truly engaging Amish fiction and this novel is no different. The Promise of a Letter is the promise of healing through Daniel's and Roman's grandmother's letters. I find that Kathleen's writing style is compelling and captivating. She knows how to hook the readers in and keep them on her line until the book is finished. At least that's how it was for me.

Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a repaired relationship to go along with the repaired engine.

My thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book.

In the Promise of a Letter, Kathleen Fuller returns to Birch Creek to revisit old friends and heal and develop relationships. This is a story of forgiveness and redemption for some of the most intriguing characters in Birch Creek.
Leanna is shocked when she loses her job repairing small engines. She is worried that it is a result of her reading her boss, Daniel’s personal letter from his beloved grandmother. Idol gossip and concern for his pregnant wife as prompted Daniel to fire Leanna, creating more work and stress for himself. Daniel’s wife, Barbara, is facing challenges of her own. This is her third pregnancy and she has yet to carry a baby to term. She is hopeful that this will be the time. Roman, Daniel’s younger brother, receives a letter of his own from their grandmother, which prompts him to return to town seeking forgiveness and reconciliation. Daniel has a hard time trusting Roman due to his many times he has ran away with no notice. Leanna has issues with Roman that she doesn’t know if she can ever see past. Daniel, tired and at his wits end, makes a decision that takes a tragic turn. As a result, Leanna and Daniel band together to help Daniel and Barbara save their business. In doing so, a relationship develops.
Fuller does a great job in this second book in the series.

I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review. David and Roman are brothers who grew apart as adults. While growing up, their parents provided their basic needs but not love. They were blessed to get plenty of love from their grandmother who also sent them both letters throughout their lives. After leaving the Amish world for a year, Roman comes back after his grandmother passed away to find forgiveness from his brother. This is a story of love and forgiveness and family.
