Knowing very little about the Amish community this book was a real different sort of read.
I enjoyed it very much and was curious about the characters as the story progressed.
The two main characters were likable and even though it was a tad predictable I enjoyed the way their relationship grew.
There are many other characters in the book whose lives you touch upon and it brought t the whole community alive.

Roman has left the Amish and his brother. He wanted to attend college. When his Grandmother passes away and he learns about it he goes back to his Amish Faith. He meets his Father at the grave site and is given a letter from his Grandmother to him. He never got along with his Father and Mother and him and his brother were raised by his Grandparents. In the letter his Grandmother wanted for him and his brother to reunited and get along. He joins the Amish faith and goes to see his brother. His brother is not happy to see him. There is tension because how Roman left without a word but due to the letter he allows him to stay. Leanna Chupp worked in Romans brother shop at repairing equipment but was fired when two noisy women were gossiping about them having a affair. When Roman comes back to work and finds that Leanna Chupp was fired tension starts. It is a beautiful story of forgiving and love.

I could barely put this book down. I just wanna to know how the story end. In the begin i had a little struggle as there are so many caracters and I didn't see the connection immediately. But as soon as I had that the book was lovely. I loved the story and that Leanne not has a typical woman's role. I liked that!!

"The Promise of a Letter" is a beautiful story by the very talented Kathleen Fuller. It portrays the story of Leanna Chupp, who is kind of a non traditional young Amish woman who feels content to stay single and who enjoys working with machines, gadgets, etc., rather than being in the house, cooking, or doing other home based tasks. She is extremely fond of her employer, Daniel, and his wife Barbara, and very close with her own brother and sister in law. Leanna is not so fond of Roman, Daniel's brother who is in the "bann". Roman has a history of walking away from family. In "Promise of a Letter", when Roman returns to Daniel to try to make reluctant amends as requested by their late grandmother, Daniel has a very difficult time granting forgiveness. Meanwhile, Leanna is left floundering when she loses her position at Daniel's shop due to misfounded gossip. This is a deeply touching story about relationships, the ill effects of gossip, and the power of forgiveness. I highly recommend!

The Promise of a Letter delivers a solid five star book. This is why Kathleen Fuller is one of the top writers when comes to Amish fiction. The story of Leanna and Roman came to life in a believable way that evolved with the characters. I enjoyed the side stories and the visits with familiar characters.
