This is the second in the series. Best for fans of Cassandra Clare, J.K. Rowling and Sabaa Tahir. Sure to be a best-selling YA series.

Thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book in return for a fair review.

Cluess does it again in book two of the Kingdom on Fire series. Henrietta and her crew are still at it, fighting the Ancients and trying to keep the world from being completely overrun. With her magician's abilities and a new found friend, they may just be able to hold their own. At least until Henrietta discovers the most devastating secret of all about her father's role in the terror they all face.

Great action, realistic characters, and plenty of secrets and intrigue to go around. Can't wait to read the conclusion of this series and find out just how far they have to go to save the world.

I received an advanced copy of this book thanks to netgalley and I was happy to read it. I already enjoyed the first one whom I found really good but A poison dark and drowning was so much better!! What can I say? The plot was fantastic as well as the revelations. The book kept me on edge, some of the revelations were unexpected and I was surprised!! The pace was really good too, there is always something to discover and the danger is never far behind. It was well done and Jessica Cluess wrote a flawless second book. What I loved the most was what we learn about the magic, the Ancients's World, how to destroy it, if it is even possible or not. The book is really strong for a sequel and I'm happy for that! I also enjoyed the characters, it was a pleasure to be with Henrietta, Blackwood, Magnus and the others once more. The bond between Henrietta and the boys grew stronger, they formed a real team. Henriatta is this kind of girl who never give up, she is brave, fierce but also sensitive and always here for her friends. Her world is complicated and we learn some very interesting things about her! Even if he is kind of cold, always searching for control, I have a little crush for Blackwood who is very charismatic. On the contrary, I was disappointed by Rook but well, I didn't like him in the first book either. In conclusion, Cluess wrote a solid second book with strong characters and a plot well imagined. Waiting for the next book now!

I was very happy to receive this sequel on NetGalley and let me tell you it is way better than A Shadow Bright and Burning.

The universe in this serie is still pleasant, England in 18th century, monsters, different types of magic, I took pleasure in plunging myself in. But what I liked in this book is the number of revelations around the magic and the prophecy but also around the opening of the gate between the monsters's world and our and the beginning of all this story. The author reveals many things to us and she brilliantly puts the pawns in place for the third volume and I think last book. The only thing that bother me was the magicians, I just wanted to see more things around that community that represents a lot for Henrietta, and I was hoping to see their situation evolve butsadly not in this book.

Speaking of Henrietta, she is a very courageous but above all human and flawed. I loved her relationship with Rook, her loyalty to him, she must juggle between her secret around her magic, her friendship with the boys, her mission to England and her role in the prophecy and she is doing well. I also pity her a lot because, she undergoes many tests, I will not talk about it, but damn she does not have the simple life in this sequel.

As for the plot, there is no time-out, the book begins with strong revelations and will continue in this direction. I am really impressed by what the author did in this book, she avoided many clichés and gave us a solid and engaging sequel from beginning to end. So I can not wait to read book n°3 which looks just as good as this sequel.

I give the book four stars. I really enjoyed this book and I thought it was better then the first book. I really enjoyed the characters and the story development. I am excited what happens to the characters in the next book. The only reason why I gave it four stars. I don't want to spoil anything, but I had a feeling/guessed at something that was pretty major to the plot line and I was right(but being right didn't exactly spoil the book). I am really excited about the next book in the series and I can not wait to read it. I am definitely going to be recommending this book and series.

AMAZING!!! This was wonderful the only bad part is that now I'll have to wait to read the next one. I really enjoyed the character development in the second book, a few people took some turns I was not really expecting. Highly recommended!
