Awesome story. Can’t wait to read more from this author!!!

This was a strange one for me. It tells the story of a small private university in San Francisco during one academic year in 1977. The novel reads a lot like a play, with copious amounts of dialogue, sometimes witty, often mundane. There are elements of farce, which wasn't my cup of tea and overall, the narrative was just too fragmented. There were also too many characters, in my opinion, which made it quite tricky to keep track of who was whom. Having said that, I'm sure anyone working in academia will recognise many of the bureaucratic hoops through which one must jump and for that reason alone, the book is quite amusing. Ultimately though, I found it pretty forgettable.

This book was a miss for me. Too bad because I thought it had such potential! But I didn't feel like it was very cohesive. There was no flow between chapters which felt more like disjointed scenes in some self-produced play. The writing felt somewhat monotone throughout the book with no feeling of a set-up for the more important parts/revelations. I wondered several times if the story was a fictionalized version of something that really happened and that perhaps there were inside jokes hidden in the story that I just didn't get.

I loved this book, very funny and fast paced. Another look at something that happens more than we care to know
