Tanner is a bull rider and intent on getting his second buckle, but fate and a bull named Hurricane Habit have other plans. Evie has arrived from Australia to cement her relationship with another bull rider, Troy. Tanner saves her from embarrassment, and she helps Tanner when he gets hurt. Lots of hot sex, drama, and some angst along the way to true love.

An exciting start to a new series, Tanner gives us two characters that are very different, but also very good and dedicated. I love that Tanner's dedicated, no-nonsense exterior hid a heart of gold, and that Evie's good heart was genuine when it counted. Despite her naivete when it came to her reason for coming to the US unannounced, she was strong enough to take a step back and realize her part. It doesn't mean the betrayal hurt less, she was just able to move on with understanding. Tanner was also a complex character that made you root for him, especially when tragedy struck.
This was a well-written story with great emotion and detail, making it a great beginning to the series. I really didn't want to put it down, which didn't surprise me, as Sarah Mayberry's stories tend to do that to me.

Sometimes you don’t have to look, to find love…

Cowboys! Yeah, that’s all it took to get my attention. What kept it though was an easy going writing style and a heart-kicker of a romance. Evie was a down (but not out) plucky heroine when Tanner stepped up to the plate to offer his assistance.

Tanner was a gentleman, a good man. He was handsome, talented and a man with integrity. He had worked hard to be at the top of his sport but that didn’t mean he couldn’t reach out to Evie when she needed someone. Seeing how she was treated, he wanted to help her of course but he also couldn’t help but be attracted to her…

Evie followed her heart to America and it got squashed by a man she thought was the one. When Tanner came to her rescue, she was grateful but also surprised at the feelings she had for him. Does that seem awfully quick or even a rebound relationship? I thought, maybe, but quickly found their courtship to be sincere and anything but casual. It felt fast, and strong and very, very real.

This was a one-sitting read that has me hankering for more of this author’s cowboys!

Tanner by Sarah Mayberry

Subgenre: contemporary, Western
Release date: 9 May 2017
Publisher: Tule Publishing
Format: ebook
Length: 308 pages

Love can make you do strange things sometimes.

Evie Forrester has arrived in America to see her ‘boyfriend’. What she learns very quickly is that Troy is with another girl, just that night. She realises she has made a monumental mistake and has to somehow regroup and work out what to do. She should have realised she was a one night stand even though she had been in love with Troy for years. She will think about it later when she has had some sleep after her 30 hours of travel. She finds a motel. Okay, so the door doesn’t quite lock right but it has a bed.

Tanner Harding is on target to win the bull riding championship this year. He just needs a few good rides. He sees Evie and feels that he should do something to help her. He ‘rescues’ her from the motel and takes her to his hotel, which does have twin double beds. While Tanner is out, Evie gets drunk (after finding a bottle of Bundaberg rum in her suitcase). Tanner returns to find her drunk and feeling very sorry for herself, and she makes a pass at him. He knocks her back, mainly because she is drunk, and hopes she won’t remember in the morning. She remembers and feels bad about her self-worth.

As predicted, in the morning she regrets her decision to drink the rum, and making the pass at Tanner even though the chemistry is sizzling between them. Both try to ignore the chemistry sizzling between them. Then Tanner has a career ending injury and Evie is there to support and assist Tanner even though he is very reluctant to accept her help. Back on his ranch, he insists that she go home as planned. Evie doesn’t want to leave and wants Tanner to ask her to stay which he eventually does in a very romantic manner.

I have really enjoyed these stories set on the bull riding circuit by the Australian authors. The setting seems very real and the action as if you were there for the eight seconds of the ride. But more important is the relationship between the two main characters. The relationships are usually insta-lust, but it works very well for this setting and these characters.

Fun short read. Mayberry brought the heavy emotions, and I would expect nothing less from her. Would have liked a little more to the ending, it felt a bit rushed. Would have liked to have seen them explore their love while they both knew it.

Tanner and Evie = Fate

These two are just o so perfect from the get-go I love how he protected right from the very beginning it was just o so sweet. and how he finds her later on and sets about helping her as they get closer and closer together will this perfect duo stay together or will Evie go back home?

I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait to read more in the series. I could not put this book down. It made me cry and laugh all at the same time.

Evie leaves Australia with out telling anyone to surprise her boyfriend. Only Evie is the one that was surprised. Tanner is there to pick up the pieces just as a friend or maybe not.

I highly recommend this book.

Thank you Netgalley and Tule Publishing for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Tanner by Sarah Mayberry
Book #1: American Extreme Bull Riders Tour Series
Source: Netgalley
My Rating: 4½/5 stars
My Review:

Tanner Harding has a plan and so far, everything is going according to plan. He’s a successful bull rider and ranch owner who fully intends to retire with at least one more million-dollar season behind him. As the saying goes, we plan and God laughs.

Evie Forrester has plans of her own and not anywhere in those plans did she anticipate her boyfriend screwing another woman and leaving her stranded in the States for 10 days. Heartbreak sucks and if it weren’t for the happy accident of meeting Tanner Harding, Evie would be all kinds of screwed. Though she doesn’t really know Tanner, he does save her from a potentially dangerous situation which earns him a measure of trust. Though he is a man of few words, the words he does speak tell Evie he is a kind man with nothing but good intentions. And then he takes off his shirt and it’s not Tanner’s intentions Evie is suddenly worried about.

Though he has no intention of taking advantage of Evie, she is certainly easy on the eyes and pretty good company. With her brutal honesty and first-hand experience with her now ex-boyfriend, Tanner is aware of Evie’s situation and aims to help her as much as he can. All he has to do is remember his life plan and not get distracted by the hot little Aussie currently sharing his space. For the first 24ish hours, Tanner has only limited issues sticking to the plan and then Evie gets good and drunk and crawls into bed with him. Drawing on what could only be described as superhuman willpower, Tanner refuses to have sex with drunken Evie, but now knows the door is wide open for a little action. Again, I point out, we plan and God laughs.

Tanner and Evie get about 48 hours of bliss before the world turns upside down and right side out. Tanner is on the cusp of winning yet another rodeo event when he is a part of a devastating accident that threatens both his future bull riding career and his life. Evie is a good person and knows the right thing to do when she sees it and caring for Tanner is the right thing to do! He not only needs help during his hospital stay, but he’ll need a ride from Oklahoma to Colorado, and someone to be with him for at least a week. Evie’s already stranded and Tanner has been good to her so there’s no way she will abandon the battered, broken, and incredibly stubborn man.

Caring for an injured man is hard to do under the best of circumstances and Evie and Tanner are by no means under the best of anything. After two long days on the road, Tanner has added angry, bitter, and resentful to his list of emotions. He likes Evie, but he doesn’t want to have to depend on her (or anyone!) for his comfort and care. However, Evie is equally stubborn and knows the man under all the anger, bitterness, and resentment. With patience and what she quickly realizes is love, Evie dives right in and makes herself a part of Tanner’s world. What Tanner quickly realizes is that Evie has somehow become a part of his life plan and he just doesn’t know how to handle that information on top of everything else. What they both realize is Evie’s time in the States is rapidly coming to an end and if one of them doesn’t speak up, all the plans and the feelings and all the desire is going to be lost.

The Bottom Line: I usually find the first book in a new series a bit difficult to really like, but I didn’t have that problem with Tanner. Both Evie and Tanner are wonderful characters who were so easy to get behind and root for! Where Tanner is the strong silent type, Evie is a bit more vocal though no less strong. I like the very unusual circumstances around their meeting and I particularly liked the twist causing Evie to travel to Tanner’s ranch with him. While this could have been a train wreck, Mayberry smoothed this path and created a natural progression rather a contrivance to keep the two together. At the end of the day, this is a sweet love story with some heat to it and I enjoyed every minute of Tanner!

Well researched and well written, Tanner has been a joy to read. Sarah Mayberry is an excellent storyteller and her skill shines through in this book. The way she described Tanner's meticulous preparations for a bull ride had me believing I was watching him. The man is clearly a 100% dedicated professional athlete yet his sense of decency is what I found truly appealing. And his rather nicely toned body. As for Evie, well who could fail to feel for someone who'd flown half way around the world to surprise the man she thought was the love of her life only to find that he had very different ideas. I liked the blend of innocent naïveté and mature intelligence. Aside from its characters, this was an interesting story to read and one I really didn't want to put down until it was finished.

This book was AMAZING. I love cowboys especially bull riders. The author is new to me but I love Sarah Mayberry's writing and will be following her from now on.

Tanner did not disappoint. This is an emotional love story. Something bad which then turns beautiful.

Loved the emotional roller coaster this book took me on.
I read it all in a few hours as I couldn't put it down.

Sarah Mayberry has this ability to write simply plotted stories and turns them into fantastic romances with deeply layered characters. Tanner is no exception and it's also because of her very likable, real and honest female lead, Evie. The developing relationship between Evie and Tanner is lightning fast but the way it is written a reader would not be hard pressed to think that this happens in real life. The plot device used to keep them in contact was dealt with very quickly, no added drama but just enough to give these two lovebirds time to kind of flesh out their romantic relationship. The sex is hot! That's a given, but the way these two interact with one another is the strong point of the book. Evie and Tanner will definitely stay in readers minds and hearts.

Tanner by Sarah Mayberry is a slow burn of a book. It starts off slow and then explodes into a story filled with emotion and heart. Well worth sticking to it.

As I'm sure I've mentioned many times before, I would read anything Sarah Mayberry writes (including the phonebook!) She has an innate way of bringing her characters to life and giving them real-life issues to overcome that leaves me either in need of a box of tissues, or a fan!

I loved the tough-as-nails Tanner with a heart of gold. When he finds down-on-her luck Evie holed up in a flee-bitten hotel after getting dumped by the love of her life, he makes it his mission to ensure she is safe until her flight back to Australia.

Evie gets the shock of a lifetime when she flies halfway around the world to surprise her boyfriend, only to find him in the arms of another woman. Broke and heartbroken, she wanders around a strange city until she finds a room at a dubious hotel.

She gets interrupted from a well-deserved crying jag by the cowboy who witnessed her humiliation. But can she trust the handsome cowboy long enough to arrange her trip home?

Sweet, funny, heart-wrenching, sexy, all are adjectives to describe this book.

I give Tanner 5 lovely kisses!

Tanner is really great love story between an Ausie girl and bull rider. I was really pleased with the whole story, character and plot. The chemistry, dialogues between Tanner and Evie are great, full of fun sass and their bedroom activities dam hot and sizzling. But the story has also a little bit deeper meaning. It is a story about loss and story about giving up and finding new meaning in life. I loved Tanner his charm and great gentleman way he acted toward Evie. Evie is also great and fun and smart I loved how determent was she to help Tanner and didn’t give up. I was so glad that they both mustered courage and fight for their love.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

A great start to a new series by Tule Publishing, American Extreme Bull Rides Tour. Evie has traveled half way around the world for the man that she thought she in love with, only to find out he is a cheat. Tanner steps in and offers her a bed to sleep in, soon they can't fight off their mutual attraction. Tanner is in a riding accident that will soon change the course of his life, but Evie stand by her man, even when he doesn't want it.

This is book that I could not put down. I would get so mad at Tanner but soon he had me melting my heart for him. Can't wait to read more of this series.

We all have those authors that are insta-clicks, don't we. If you're a contemporary romance reader and Sarah Mayberry isn't one of yours, I'll admit to being confused. I have at least liked, if not loved/adored/drooled over, everything she's written and Tanner is no exception.

The kick-off of a new series, we leave Mayberry's normal stomping grounds of her native Australia and head to the American west for a story about a bull rider. I went to the rodeo once when I lived in Colorado and I cannot say I gave much thought to the lads on the animals beyond hopes for their safety. If I go back, Mayberry has shifted my focus.

Evie, our heroine, is so damn in love with her boyfriend that she hops a plane from Australia to the U.S. to surprise him. Except she's the one that's surprised when she discovers him with someone else! Turns out, he wasn't under the impression they were dating, much less moving towards engagement like Evie did. Before you get too judgey, our Evie admits she made a lot of assumptions and asked very few questions. Let that be a lesson to all of us; DTR before draining one's savings account.

Tanner is the strong, silent type - but he's also a good man, which means he's not going to leave a shellshocked Evie to fend for herself. The story moves from them being strangers, to them learning to face new challenges together, to sneakily falling in love. With trademark wit and heat, Mayberry has penned another winner.

TANNER is the first book in a new alternate-writers series from Tule Publishing, called American Extreme Bull Riders Tour – and this first instalment is written by Australian romance author (and one of my fave-of-faves!) Sarah Mayberry.

Now, cowboys are not really my thing. Every romance reader has their trope-of-choice; and cowboys just aren’t mine. My bestie is all about the ice-hockey players, while I’m more of a Scotsman in a kilt kinda gal … but the whole Western Romance/Cowboys/Bullriders thing has just never been on my radar. Until now.

The series starts out with 25-year-old naïve Evie, flying all the way from her family’s farm in Australia to Tulsa in America, to be with her long-distance boyfriend (and childhood crush) Troy, on the last 2 weeks of his Extreme Bull Riders circuit tour. But when Evie arrives she’s met with the shocking realisation that Troy hasn’t been anywhere near as invested in their relationship as she was – and has in fact been bedding buckle bunnies for the months that Evie was pining for him and planning her grand-gesture surprise arrival.

The one person to witness the full-force of Evie’s uncovered betrayal is Troy’s opponent on the tour, Tanner ‘Hard Man’ Harding – a famous Bull Rider tipped to win this circuit. Against his better judgement, Tanner is moved by Evie’s plight – and impressed with her stoicism in the light of such betrayal. He rescues Evie from a seedy motel, and insists she take the spare bed in his Hilton hotel room – and stay with him for the few days it takes her to sort out a plan for the two weeks she’s stuck in America on a non-refundable plane ticket.

But pretty soon Evie is forgetting all about Troy and her heartbreak; so focused on the kindness and gruff compassion of Tanner, not to mention an impressive body crafted from years on the Riding circuit. Tanner, for his part, quickly becomes infatuated with Evie – her iron-will, and sweet disposition – and the two of them fall into an intense and loving fling that only grows stronger when an accident forges a friendship in the fires of tragic circumstances.

*********************
There was a small silence, but as he climbed back into bed she blew her nose. Not a delicate little lady honk, either.
“Thank you.” Her voice was thick with tears. “Sorry if I’m keeping you awake. I think it’ll pass soon.”
“Don’t apologize for having your heart broken,” he said.
Troy was the one who should be apologizing. Tanner had no problem with anyone taking pleasure where they found it, but trying to have a bet each way struck him as being greedy and more than a little selfish. If Troy wanted to play, he shouldn’t have made whatever promises he’d made to Evie, and vice versa.
She blew her nose again, then he heard the sound of her moving around in the bed, changing position.
“I think maybe I came to Tulsa to have my heart broken,” she said very quietly.
*********************

Sarah Mayberry’s TANNER is more of what I love from this auto-buy author. Her characters often start out in the trickiest of circumstances – in this case, Evie getting her heart broken by her childhood crush in the first two chapters! – but the strength of Sarah’s romances is how these character get back up again and find their way to happiness in spite of the worst circumstances.

The other thing I love about Sarah Mayberry’s books is that they’re just so darn hot – and TANNER has got to be one of her hottest yet! I said I didn’t like cowboys so much, but Sarah has imbued this hero with a commendable chivalry and tender compassion that’s mouth-wateringly tempting. There were a few times when Tanner could have been seen to come across as He-Man bossy, but when his particular brand of take-charge gruffness was up against Evie’s own iron-will, it only made for a spectacular coupling with a give-take that was so much fun to read!

I’m keen to read more from the American Extreme Bull Riders Tour, even if Sarah isn’t penning the next three … She’s coaxed me over to the Cowboy-Trope side, and has sprinkled this first instalment with enough intriguing characters that I’m now keen to follow their stories (not least among them being Troy, because even though he does something awful to Evie in this book – there’s hints of a dark past that needs addressing before he can open himself up to love!)

Sarah Maybery is one of my favourite, favourite, favourite romance writers – ever! – and TANNER has just made its way onto my Top 5 faves from her list. Which is really saying something!
