There were many movies that this book mentioned that I never heard of, so I did not see them. After reading about them in this book, it made me want to try to find them in stores or online. Of course, the hit movies that nearly everyone knows about such as "Slap Shot" and "Youngblood" are covered well. It was a very good and entertaining book.

Anyone looking to read up on films depicting the game of ice hockey can start with "The Cinema of Hockey", where author Iri Cermack discusses over fifty films produced from the 1970's, both in the US and Canada. Although written more for an academic audience and there is more film critique than hockey history here, the reader can still learn about how the game has been depicted on the big screen. Issues of race, gender, sexuality, business, capitalism and masculine aggression are discussed in separate chapters. From "The Sheldon Kennedy Story" to "Happy Gilmore", including "Slap Shot" and the Disney franchise "Mighty Ducks", it is all here.
