I selected this book to read with our four year old granddaughter. I did sing it to the tune of Farmer in the Dell and we both found it to be quite fun. The images are cute and fitting for the beach location. It is very simple and would make an easy book for young readers to learn with/from.

We're Going to the Beach is a children's book written by Nancy Streza and illustrated by Adam Pryce.

Within twenty-eight pages, this book focuses on two little friends and their dog spending a day at the beach with plenty of activities and adventures. This easy-to-read picture book is geared toward young children, particularly toddlers and preschoolers.

This sing-songy (is that even a word?) book is perfect for little ones to enjoy. It documents a perfect day together at the beach and the words are sung to the tune of the old favourite song, "The Farmer in the Dell."

An adorable little boy and girl spend their day: picking up shells, dragging seaweed, building a castle with a moat, chasing seagulls, riding waves, catching fish and racing the tide, just to name a few. They are happy and carefree all day long relaxing in the sun, interacting with beach life and they end up culminating their busy day by slowing down to watch a beautiful sun sink into the vast ocean before them.

The bright coloured illustrations are detailed and full of activity. The whole vibe of the book oozes a celebration of a perfect getaway at the beach. Toddlers and preschoolers will love the repetition and rhyme that the story unfolds. A lovely book to share with your wee-one.

I'm especially impressed with the fact that there is an African-American child on the front of this book, which is what originally drew me to the title. There aren't many books like that I really appreciate it. This is the perfect book for taking to the beach or showing to a child who might be making their first trip to the beach.

Sung to the tune of the Farmer in the Dell, we’re going to the beach, is just a happy day on the beach. The kids ride waves, hunt crabs, build sandcastles. It’s okay and has a place in a library collection. I can even see it being used for story time, however, once it falls apart, I doubt it would be replaced.

Oh, Yes!!! I am sooo going to be teaching the preschoolers this song! This is a great story/song! Love it! The illustrations are lovely; so many cool things to look at! Would make a great gift for a child headed to a beach vacation! Even babies will love the song!

I loved that this book rhymed and can really see it being a firm favourite with the rhymes being repeated away from the book too. The images are lovely and really illustrated the story.

Recommend for school library easy use of words a lot of repetition for the child to learn through singing and learning about the world around them.

I love picture books with repetition or rhyme to read with my grandson. This one has repetition and can be sung to the tune Farmer in the Dell. My grandson loved it, but got a bit confused when the pattern changed. When we got the third line, there was a pattern for the first few pages then it changed. That is the only reason why I did not give this book five stars. The illustrations were bright, colourful and fun. I tried to get him to figure out what the line would be based in the illustration and he didn't do too badly. We read it a few times over as he enjoyed the song. A great addition to a family library or a kindergarten classroom.

Being honest, this book drives me nuts. I love the illustrations and all the bright colors. Every page offers so many things to explore. But the song.....ugh. Unfortunately for me, my son loves it. He loves that the words are sung and that the theme repeats even as the story progresses to new colorful beach excitement. A really great book for little ones. A tough one for adults. I caught myself in the shower humming "The Farmer in the Dell" after reading it a few times.

Any book that has a familiar early childhood song in it is a sure winner with toddlers and preschoolers. We're Going to the Beach could also be used for special needs youngsters and adults who respond well to children's music. The illustrations are colorful and eye catching and all of the elements of a day at the beach are included.

A super cute story for young readers about going to the beach!! I loved how the words were put to hi ho cherry-o!! The pictures were great also! Very well written and illustrated.
