Terri's life is different than she expected it to be and nothing highlights that more than the rich jerk who comes in for his froufrou drink every morning. She knows his name is Mick, that her boss would do anything for him, and that he won't utter a single word to her. When a chance encounter and a one-night stand bring them together, neither expect her to be working for him next. With a no-relationship rule between them, Terri makes a name for herself in his marketing firm, finally able to provide more stability for her ill brother. Neither Mick nor Terri could have expected that working together, and a role playing video game, would make their chemistry so hard to ignore.
"'You deserve better,' he called up the stairs to me.
'We all deserve better,' I said, hoping I kept the bitterness out of my voice."
Stud, by Jamie K. Schmidt, surprised me. I was expecting the cliches, the rich man storyline, and sure it has one, but it also features Schmidt's special brand of storytelling. Terri is a snarky female, she makes you laugh and brings out a side of Mick that one would never expect from the suit-wearing, arrogant man. They're the kind of characters readers will actually enjoy reading about, their dialogue is engaging and their chemistry feels natural. I really enjoyed that each character carried on with their separate lives, only combining together when the relationship demanded it. Terri and her brother, though I wish we had more interactions, make for a really interesting sibling storyline. They care for one another, but also have to rely on one another, as they are the only family they have, their bond even stronger due to her brother's illness. Mick's family is a train wreck, on the verge of a very public crash, and it plays out through out the entire novel. Despite the family issues, the work issues, and the video gaming, Mick and Terri find so much more than just a one night stand.
"'I'd say we both got what we wanted. But that's all in the past.'
'It was two weeks ago,' he said, his voice brining with outrage."
Though the book is sexual from the start, I mean come on it all started with a one night stand, the relationship between Mick and Terri was originally more about work and their individual family issues. Additionally, Mick is a mix of both a very-alpha, Dominant man and a kind, thoughtful nice guy. It was sort of confusing. Terri is snarky, holds her own, and a big nerd, and though their connection seemed natural by the end it feels based purely on their sexual relationship. The storyline of Stud is interesting, it boasts all the intrigue and drama that get you attached, but it fizzled out at the end. I felt there were a few questions left unanswered, some string of events unfinished, and the meat of the story felt replaced by the very erotic relationship between Mick and Terri.
"'Just my spare time?' I quipped. He kissed my forehead and I still shivered.
'Don't tempt me.'"
Stud is an entertaining read from new-to-me Jamie K. Schmidt. It stands out among the many cliche rich-man, poor-woman new releases. If you're looking for a read that is all drama and romance, this is for you.

Steamy romance between a barista who loves gaming and a womanizing ad exec. They collided in romance, and heat while forging through family, work and relationship waters.

Sassy and bold, Schmidt gives a heck of a one-two punch with Stud. Her characters are in-your-face, real and totally hot. Their relationship is anything but ordinary and they heat things up from beginning to end. The plot is detailed (I never knew so much about gaming!) and it all rounds out nicely. What a fun read!

This is a tough one, I liked it, I liked the characters but there was just something a little off about the whole thing. Terri & Mick come from completely different worlds which is great because that opens up all kinds of "getting to know you" fun but it became a bit predictable. Also the way it went back and forth I found myself thinking I was reading one character only to realize I was reading the other. It was a good story, good characters and a good read.

Stud is not what it seems. Do not let the blurb fool you because it definitely fooled me. I really thought that it was just going to be a girl meets boy, girl wants boy, boy wants girl and bam, sex for the rest of the book. Maybe a weak plotline is thrown in. I truly wasn’t expecting what I read. Sure there was sex, lots of it, but I wasn’t expecting the plotline to be as good as it was.
I really connected with Terri. She was as realistic as a fictional character could get. She was a nerd (played an online game that seemed like World of Warcraft except instead of dwarves/elves, the characters were Vikings) and she was working part-time at a coffee shop because she had an ill brother that needed taking care of. She also secretly lusted after Mick when he came into the coffee shop….even though she thought he was a jerk. All he did was stare at her boobs. So when Mick asked her out, I was just as surprised as she was.
Mick, I liked. He knew what he wanted when he wanted it and for how long. He was the epitome of an Alpha. I just felt bad that his family was such a mess. His parents were awful. I mean, who would threaten their own son like that? And don’t get me started on his brother. He was married but a serial cheater and knocked up his secretary….who Mick took on as his own once his brother ended the relationship. No wonder Mick was pretty surprised at how close Terri and her brother were. If my family was like his, I would have been too.
I loved the sexual tension that Mick and Terri had. Right from the first page, it was there and it kept building. So when they finally had sex, it was explosive. And they had sex everywhere. The car (well not actual intercourse but wow!!), the elevator, Mick’s office, the coffee shop where Terri worked, Terri’s house….basically everywhere. It was very steamy. Need a cold shower steamy. What I liked is that the author forced Mick and Terri to take a break when he became her boss. At that point, the sexual frustration came across the pages in waves. Which made for a uber hot sex scene when they finally gave in.
I know I mentioned it above but I thought the relationship between Mick and his parents was a truly horrible one, even if Mick’s father did try to make amends at the end. It just baffled me that they would play Mick and his brother off of each other and then try to cash in moneywise. I am still shaking my head over that.
The end of the book was very good. All of the storylines did get wrapped up and everyone got their version of a happy ending.
How many stars will I give Stud: 4
Why: Great plotline, great characters
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Sex and language

Loved this book! This book is great if your looking for a romantic comedy to pass your time. I love that it's a quick & fun read. The characters are fabulous. I enjoyed getting to know Terri & Mick. Stories like this are fun when there's dislike between the characters in the beginning but also lots of sparks. When the sparks heat up, look out! Complete combustion. Highly recommend getting to know these characters' story.

Mick and Terri see each other Monday-Friday at exactly 8:57 a.m. where he picks up the same order of coffee and leaves without a word. Terri finds him to be abrasive and tries to get snarky with him, only to incur the wrath of her boss for it. Terri has abandoned her marketing job in order to take care of her ailing brother. She works off hours in order to take him to his appointments. When she discovers that Mark and his family own a marketing company, she tries to up her game. The first few chapters were intriguing and kept me interested. The story then fell off for me after that. Terri seemed to lose her mind around him and, although she did have a lot on her plate, she was kind of all over the place for me. She finagled her way into a job with Mick's company and then couldn't figure out why he wasn't happy? For a marketing person, I found that dubious at best. I wanted to like this book more and it may be a good book for someone else. I just couldn't connect with either character and found myself getting whiplash at times from the back and forth. There were just too may loose ends for me at the end. I have enjoyed the author's other books so this was a bit of a disappointment for me. I would give it 2.5 stars. I am grateful to have received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

This was a scorching hot book. The heat and passion as well as the sass and banter back and forth were amazing. It was a quick read and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I really liked this book. This is a new to me author and I would absolutely love to read more of their work.

I didn't think I would like this book as much as I did. It was very different from other books I have read. For one the heroine Terri is a gamer. I mean like a full set up computer gamer and she is good. She works at a coffee shop where she constantly sees Mick. One day while serving coffee at his office she unintentionally finagles herself into a job. One that she previously applied for and was denied. This is not so good for Mick. The company has been going through some things and the last thing he needs it to be caught lusting after the newest employee.
I really loved the push and pull between Terri and Mick. They were determined to keep things professional but late nights gaming and coming up with business strategies turn in to cuddles and kisses. I loved how Terri and Mick both had personal issues. It made them seem so more realistic. Terri needed this job to help with her brothers medical bills. Micks family business is a mess. He has issues with his parents and his brother who cant keep it in his pants. He is trying desperately to keep his business afloat. The steam between these two was off the charts. I'm one of those people where too much sex has me skimming but Jamie K Schmidt wrote some scenes that had me reading them again and again.
Check my reviews. I rarely give out 5 stars. It was well deserved for this book and I would definitely recommend it.

At first, I was not sure I wanted to keep reading this book. The hero was such a jerk that I did not like him. The heroine had a few weird moments as well. I made myself read just a little more and he started to grow on me. Seeing these two together, gaming and in life, was entertaining. There were some hot sex scenes in this book. This was an entertaining read. I liked how it all resolved in the end.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is an in your face, unapologetic, disfunctional family and business, erotic romance with very vivid commentary and sex scenes. It also deals with chronic disease and the struggle it causes. It is also some form of romance not for the weak at heart and who like it dirty. This was not my cup of tea but it was a quick read and if you're a gamer a plus for you.

Stud is the first work that I’ve read from this author but it won’t be the last.
Terri works in a local coffee shop which offers her the flexible working hours she needs to facilitate looking after her sick sibling. In order to help boost her income she also accepts event waitressing gigs that she fits around the needs of her ailing brother.
Mick Wentworth on the other hand is a hard-working, committed businessman that plays as hard as he works.
Mick is desperately trying to save the family marketing business but between an embezzling father, a mother facing sexual harassment charges from a much younger employee and a married brother who 'knocked up' his secretary, he has his work cut out for him.
They meet each other when Mick frequents the coffee shop where she's a barista. She is then hired to offer refreshments at a meeting that Mick has set for some new clients. This opportunity leads to Mick and Terri developing a relationship that very quickly becomes intimate.
The dialogue between all the characters throughout is engaging and, at times, hilariously funny. There is also some, out of character, moments or at least that is the impression. As the story progresses, many of the difficulties are experienced, almost personally, as the author does such a good job of entrenching the reader completely in the storyline.
Well done Jamie K. Schmidt <3

Mick and Terri definitely have an attraction and lust for each other, which eventually plays out, but neither wants a relationship...he's a manwhore and she's too busy working more than one part-time job and looking after her brother. Because of a misunderstanding, Terri ends up hired by Mick on a contract basis, which ends any physical relationship they had going on...no sex with employees! However, this proves to be a lot harder than Mick thought. Add in Mick's crazy family and Terri's brother's illness and it makes for an interesting and bumpy road to an HEA.

3.5 stars - Not bad, but not my favorite. Different from a wolf in sheep’s clothing, Mick (the hero) is actually a fair and pretty nice guy, but in arrogant, douche bag clothing. He helps friends and tries to practice more integrity than his pitiful relatives. However, he always seems to be working an angle. For instance, Terri (the heroine) manages to ingratiate herself to a tech executive and Mick pretends that she's an employee to protect the deal. His internal musings make it clear that he plans to learn what she knows and then ditch her. Douchey, right? The only things you can trust about him are that he desires Terri and wants to control over his family’s company. On the flip side, he's not afraid to admit when he's wrong and does manage to repent sincerely. These mood swings dulled the experience for me.
Also, much of the book feels pretty crude. I'm no prude, not by a loooong shot, but the language choices also missed the mark for me.
All in all, if you like your alpha males more on the abrasive, a**hole side, but with some principles and a few redeeming qualities, this may work for you.
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGallery, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Good story and enjoyable read, Terri is a very strong heroine which I loved but she was also very kind and generous, not everyone would put their lives on hold like she did for her brother. Mick was a hot alpha male which I loved, after the childhood he had I was surprised at the depth of character he had, he could have turned out like the wolves who raised him. I will be looking out for more books by this author.

A fun, fast read that will leave you wanting more! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This story is great and entertainment to read. Terri is a strong, independent and sexy lady. Mick is hot, sexy, rich and a true romantic. Their love is strong and with communication the conquer any obstacles.
I recommend this book. Great reading.

3.5 stars.

First read by this author and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I can't really explain other than to say that I really got into the author's style of storytelling and was really entertained by this book.
It was sexy, funny and sweet at times with the wicked banter I so love between my hero and heroine.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Sure, it was predictable, but I liked the nerdy aspects, the hot scenes and of course some of the added drama to give it color.
Terri is working as a barista and doing other part time jobs to try and pay for her brother's ongoing medical bills. She left her corporate marketing job to take care of her brother and can't seem to catch a break and find a job that will allow her the flexibility she needs while also providing her with decent pay and health insurance. Every morning at 8:57 a.m. though, Mick shows up to get a girly coffee drink.
Mick's family owns a marketing firm that is having a tough go of things right now. His dad embezzled money from the company, his mother sleeps around with the help and is a lunatic and his brother sleeps around on his wife. Yeah, not exactly your perfect family. On top of all this, Mick is competing with his brother Simon for the CEO position and is trying to get majority shares of the company so that he can finally gain control over all the nonsense.
He sees Terri every morning and of course thinks she's hot. But he's pretty arrogant and Terry hates that about him, but it secretly makes her hot. They end up sleeping together a couple times and it's definitely explosive between these two.
She's helping setup and serve at a catered breakfast being held at Mick's firm when she chats up his client and impresses him so much that Mick offers her a job. This now means that their hooking up has to end since he refuses to mix business with pleasure.
While Terri is working with Mick, they get together a few times to game and discuss marketing strategies related to the gaming company they are working for. There are a lot of gaming references in this book, but I didn't mind them and thought they were cute when their inner geeks showed. They eventually break down and the business/pleasure line gets crossed again, go figure.
They get their HEA, but honestly, it was all fixed itself too quickly in the last chapter or two. We went from high drama to it all wrapped up in a nice bow with the snap of (Mick's) fingers. I was expecting more drama and conflict before we got to that point. I don't know if another book is planned, but I feel as though it wasn't all finalized the way I'd like to have a book end. Did they get married? How did things turn out for her brother? What happens to Mick's mom? I hate when there are a lot of unanswered questions, but regardless, the book was still a good read that keep me interested.
