Great read, couldn't put it down. The plot is complex but clearly laid out, story line kept you guessing who was the perpetrator of the crimes. The lead character Arn Anderson is an older man and working alongside a female TV reporter much younger and pleased to read that she is not his love interest. The other characters are interesting and add breadth to the story. Will definitely recommend it to my book club.

Arn Anderson used to be a Denver homicide cop, he is now a consultant helping Cheyenne, Wyoming police solve a cold case. The local police are not happy to have Arn looking into this case. The case is being opened due to Arn's friend and TV reporter, Ana Maria Villarreal's, decision to report on the cold case. When the killer learns the case has been opened again, he begins to start elimination anyone that might be able to help Arn solve the case. He also starts stalking Ana Maria. Arn is your typical rough, on the job a long time, hardnose cop which has been done many times, but is still fun to read. Ana Marie is your typical, I will do whatever I have to do to get the story even if it gets me killed reporter. Of course, she needs Arn to save her hide. A favorite character is Danny, Arn's homeless partner. Their dialogue was smart and whity at times. Sections of the book are in the voice of the killer. That added some intrigue to the story and helped to explain details. If you like cop drama and mysteries, this should be on the top of your list. I give this a 3.5 star rating which I round up to 4.

Wendelboe's characters are intriguing and throughout you will find yourself wanting to know more about their back stories. The storyline is fast paced and keeps you guessing, the joy of all of us who love to be strung along! I would like to have had fuller character profiles but loved the journey anyway! There is wonderful humor and humility, in Arn and Danny particularly (dying to know more about that guy!) Would definitely look for other works by this author!

This is a terrific crime fiction debut set in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It centres around a former veteran Denver Homicide cop, down on his luck and badly in need of money. He has lost his beloved wife, Cailee, but has still not got over her. He returns home, and decides to renovate his parents derelict home. To fund the enterprise, he becomes a consultant to TV station and their reporter, Ana Maria Villarreal, who open an investigation on a serial killer spree from 10 years ago. Arn is feeling his age and his cop instincts have become a little blunt. The ambitious Ana insists on playing an active part in hunting down the killer, bringing headaches to Arn in his efforts to protect her. The killer re-emerges, with every intention of getting Ana and the TV station to close down their assignment. This cold case is intricate, complex, and goes down numerous paths, bringing death, mayhem and danger in the present as a ruthless killer from the past seeks to evade justice.

Arn finds his parents home is occupied by an old Indian homeless man, Danny with no surname, he has a wealth of building and construction skills that he uses to help Arne get the home habitable in return for for letting him stay. Danny also proves to be an invaluable help to Arn on his case as he takes up the mantle as a PI's sidekick, and their relationship is a joy as it develops. There are the deaths of three cops who worked the serial killer hunt, not seen to be connected by the Cheyenne police. Arn thinks this is no coincidence, and digs deep to uncover evidence that questions the original findings on their deaths. The clever killer's actions and thoughts are interspersed throughout the narrative, he rediscovers his appetite for killing after having kept it under control through the years. He continues to leave trademark signs at his more recent killings as he closes in on Arn and Ana.

This is a great beginning to this new series, it has a warmth and heart that draws in the reader with ease. Arn, with his creaking bones, and bags of experience as a homicide cop makes a wonderful central character. I like him using a man bag, and he does not get fazed by the teasing he receives for it. I imagine that Danny and Ana will return as they serve as great supporting characters. I am sure their relationship with Arn will prove to be fruitful in future book. This is not as fast paced a read as some readers might like, but for me, it was perfect. A novel that I very much enjoyed reading! Many thanks to Midnight Ink for an ARC.

Retired detective Arn is trying to find the 5 point killer. This is a well written thriller which had me gripped from the start. There is a lot packed into this story which kept me guessing until the end. Arn is definitely a character I would like to read more about.

This was a gripping hunt for a serial killer, written as the first novel by a retired police officer.
I enjoyed this story and it kept me engaged to the very end. Congratulations on a well developed story.

A retired police detective returning to his hometown of Cheyenne Wyoming as a consultant for a tv program to see if he can help solve twenty year old murder of the then chief of police. Two othe police officers died within months of the chief and the star investigative reporter wanted to tie all the murders together and to the mystery murdered the five point murdered. The five points were for the child police badge left at the scenes of each murder that occurred.

As Arn begins to work on the story he is simultaneously working on his monthers old house which is in good enough shape to be considered a tear down. Along with the house Arn seems to have inherited a few homeless guys who have a whole array skills toward refinishing the house.

As the tv team get closer to discovering the truth they each become target for the five point killer. Only through careful researching the old evidence I'd progress made. But progress is made and lives are reprieved or lost once the killer is revealed.
The story is interesting with enough potential bad guys to make it worthwhile trying to find t real bade guy. A mystery in a lighter vain but certainly worth reading.

Circumstances haven’t been kind to Arn Anderson. Broke and employed after leaving the Denver PD, Anderson returns home to Cheyenne on the 10th anniversary of a serial killer’s rampage. The killer was never caught and it now appears he or she is back, just as a local station plans to run a series on the killings. The principal reporter receives a warning to not air the series and when it’s not heeded, the killings begin again. Anderson continues to investigate and realizes that the conclusions drawn 10 years earlier may have been completely wrong. He realizes that the killer may very well be someone he knows and that he may be the next target.

Hunting the Five Point Killer is the debut novel of the Bitter Wind series by C. M. Wendelboe. Prior to writing, Wendelboe spent a lifetime in law enforcement and his experience shines through in his work. This is the first book I’ve read by Wendelboe but it won’t be my last. Wendelboe has managed to capture the essence of the veteran cop, down on his luck and trying to figure out where to go and what to do next. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to future entries in the series. This book gets 4/5 stars from me.

**An electronic copy or this book from NetGalley was the only consideration in exchange for this review.**

Arn is a little old but then the murder he looks into is a decade past so it works for him. This story is from the Hillerman genre, a good story you will enjoy.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Midnight Ink for an advance copy of Hunting the Five Point Killer, a detective novel set in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Ana Maria Villarreal decides to jump start her career by re-investigating the unsolved murder of detective Butch Spangler 10 years afterwards and persuades ex Denver detective Arn Anderson to help her. To make her case more juicy she links it without proof, not only to the case he was investigating, the so-called Five Point Killer after the plastic police badges found at the scenes of his two murders, but to the accidental deaths of two of his close colleagues who died at much the same time as he did. As Arn starts his investigation the stakes rise as Ana Maria receives threats telling her to close the investigation.

I enjoyed Hunting for the Five Point Killer which is quite a detailed read. You need your wits about you to keep track of all the nuances and thought processes but it doesn't bog the novel down as there is plenty of action and plot twists which kept me glued to the pages. I had an inkling of the perpetrator fairly early on but for totally different reasons than turned out to be the case. The plotting is amazing and mostly had me fooled but when the highly satisfying solution is revealed it seems so logical.

Arn is a great protagonist. He's not so young anymore so his joints creak and he feels he's losing his edge but he's smart, resourceful, kind and no pushover. He brings a warmth to the novel the subject matter doesn't allow.

I have no hesitation in recommending this as a good, absorbing read.

Back in the day, Arn Anderson was a hotshot homicide investigator, now he’s a washed up has-been, desperate for money. He’s gone back to Cheyenne, to his childhood home and taken on an old murder investigation, an ice-cold one. With the help of a reporter, Arn tries to track a serial killer who’s come roaring back to life after a decade of silence. This is Wendelboe’s first book, but you’d never know it, the characters are vivid, especially Arn, an anti-hero that readers will relate to and care about
