A story wrapped up on secrets, lies and deception. Broken Little Things brings to light a dirty secret, one that results in something so beautiful.

I was sucked into the story pretty quickly. I questioned the girls father and I was pretty sure I had it figured out and I was right. I really didn't want to be right. The ending was beautifully written and though Everley was not with her mother she was with a mother that loved her.

Lots of fluff. Too many pages. I could not enjoy this one. Not suspenseful, too slow for me. It really dragged.

Really liked this book!! It was well written and I felt connected with the characters. They struggled but worked through situations. So much growth in the characters!

The synopsis suggested that Little Broken Things, written by Nicole Baart, would be good for fans of Liane Moriarty and I would have to agree. The title itself hints at the problems in the story, with the plot focusing on a family that is dealing with a myriad of struggles and issues. This book was suspenseful at times, and quite intriguing. I do recommend. .

I will agree that if you like Liane Moriarty, this is probably a good book for you to read. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it much. It was pretty predictable and just kind of went on without any real twists that couldn't be seen in advance. Also, Liz - I swear to God, you are just THE WORST.

As this was my first experience with this author, I had no idea what to expect when I started reading. But I found the book unique, the writing well done, and the story memorable.

I'm always the first to sign up to be on the ARC team for a Nicole Baart book, and Little Broken Things was no different.

The plot idea is intriguing. Our main character receives a cryptic text from her sister and a small unknown child dropped off to her with the only instruction being "keep her safe." This occurrence drives the story as our main character balances caring for this small stranger, solving the mystery of what exactly is going on and who this child is, and balancing a whole lot of complex relationships. The familial relationships are complicated and complex and so very realistic. This adds an entirely new layer to the story. The middle was a little slow for me but overall it's a solid story.

I was provided this book for review from Netgalley.

I loved this. I can not even really pinpoint why, this isn't my typical thing but it just hit the right cords in this case. This is a story that is extremely family focused about one family that lives in a smaller seaside town. It goes back and forth with a few different perspectives, Quinn, her sister Nora, and their mother Liz. Nora drops off a little girl to Quinn to watch out for with the warning to not let anyone know that she is there and to watch out for any strangers hanging around. The whole story you are trying to figure out who the little girl really is and who they are in hiding from. This wasn't an extremely suspenseful story but it had a good amount of mystery. If you like character driven stories I think you will like this one alot. Overall I really enjoyed the experience of reading this and I couldn't put it down.

Decent plot, good story, but the ending was missing a key piece for me. Easy read, would recommend to anyone that likes different POV books and mind thriller types.

Who knew that all the loveliest things were broken? What a beautiful line. We are all broken in some way but that doesn’t mean we aren’t lovely. This is a wonderful story about sad situations, mistakes and darkness that lead to healing, love and joy.

Nora is desperate to keep Everlee safe and the only person who can help her is her sister Quinn. Quinn is surprised when her older sister calls her out of the blue asking to meet her. And she is even more surprised when Nora leaves with her a young girl who she calls Lucy and runs away without any other explanation. Quinn also has other things to worry about, including the fact that she is unemployed, she often feels distant from her husband Walker, and they are currently living in one of her parents' cabins. In the meantime, Nora and Quinn's mother, Liz, feels it's her duty to try to control her daughters' lives until she realises that her past mistakes drove them away from home.

The novel is told from different points of view. Although there is suspense and a few dramatic moments, this is above all a novel about family, about the often complicated relationship between a mother and her daughters, about past mistakes and secrets. The pacing of the narration is often slow as the characters go on trips down memory lane or it focuses on their emotions. The tension is often high as the truth is slowly revealed, but there are no violent scenes that will shock you. This is an intriguing and thought-provoking novel with well-developed characters, perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty.

I read this in two days, finishing the last half in a few hours since I couldn’t put it down.

It’s a good thing I read this on my Kindle and not a hard copy—because there were tons of times I wanted to cheat and flip ahead. I wanted so badly to find the answers before they were dispensed.

And I’m glad I wasn’t able to—well, I guess I could have, but I didn’t—flip ahead. The entire story was worth the wait. Family intrigue is always worth the wait.

I received an advance review copy of this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

I actually was unable to finish this book. The characters were SO unlikeable. I seriously could not sit through their petty attitudes, relationships, etc. I wanted to like it but I got so annoyed that I just could not do it...which is rare!

Little Broken Things is a suspenseful, entrancing family drama that had me engaged from the very first word until the last page. Told from the perspectives of the three Stanford women: 60-something and recently widowed mother Liz, older sister Nora, and 26-year-old Quinn tell the story of their lives changing from the entrance of one single little girl into their lives. As they come to question the lives they live and the past they’ve known, they must come to terms with some hard truths about themselves and their family members.

Nora Stanford couldn’t get away from her stern father and interfering, weak-willed mother fast enough after school, so she disappeared when she was supposed to go to college and works as a barista in town that’s three hours away from their picturesque town on a lake in Minnesota. Her parents never liked her best friend Tiffany, who didn’t have a great upbringing and was considered a bad girl in town, so Nora did her best to keep minimal contact with her family since she and Tiffany were roommates when they moved away. They were content with their quasi-family unit of Nora, Tiffany, and Tiffany’s young daughter Everlee until Tiffany fell for the wrong man. Nora was pushed out of the picture by controlling, abusive, methamphetamine-making Donovan. And when Nora thought that Everlee was in too much danger, she took the girl out of harms way to stay with the sister that she’s barely spoken to in years–Quinn.

Quinn Cruz has recently returned from California after college with an exotic artist husband in tow, and while they’re living in one of her mother’s rental cottages, her life seems to be on hold while her husband struggles to create his art as she sits by with no real purpose in life at the moment–until her estranged sister Nora drops a dirty, six-year-old-ish girl in her lap. Nora won’t tell her much about the child, not more than a name of Lucy, and instructions to tell no one and to protect her. But Quinn and her husband immediately recognize the girl’s haunted eyes–Stanford eyes–and they know that she’s family. But who is the father, and how did Nora have a child without anyone knowing about it?

Little Broken Things is ultimately a story of how far will someone go for their loved ones. No matter how broken a relationship is, when they are family, there is always something left to mend. Overbearing, outwardly perfect mother Liz wants a relationship with her daughters so badly, and Quinn wants children of her own with her husband Walker. It doesn’t take long for Liz and Quinn to butt heads, and when Lucy is thrown into the mix, Liz is thrown for an even bigger loop that leaves her reeling.

I give Little Broken Things a four out of five. This novel had so much family drama dredging up old family secrets that you could feel the years-old tension dripping off the pages. While oppressed and close-minded mother Liz tries to cobble together some kind relationship with her daughters, her character’s evolution was a really nice journey to see. Nicole Baart’s writing was fantastic throughout, and the tense atmosphere lingered on that picturesque lake and the dilapidated buildings in the countryside. The mystery of Lucy’s parentage was slowly revealed throughout the novel, and the ultimate question of who was the father was a bit predictable. Overall, I really enjoyed the suspense and different points of view. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves family dramas and mysteries shrouded in danger.

How far would you go to protect someone you loved? How many lies would you tell? Would you be willing kill if necessary? “Broken Little Lies” explores all of these questions in a fast paced though a bit predictable thriller. I had to keep going until I got to the last page.

I received an advance review copy of this book from Great Thoughts Ninjas. All opinions are my own.

I requested this book when I was in the mood for thrillers and then I started reading it and quickly realized that actually, I can't read thrillers because I'm scared of everything. The book, from what I read, was well-written and I did feel a sense of suspense from basically the first page. I wanted to know what happened, but couldn't keep reading because it was freaking me out. So... Would recommend if this book seems like something you would be interested in because it was well-written!
