Alex MacLeod always knew he’d be leader of his clan, but duty was thrust upon him before he was ready. His father’s devotion to his sick mother is something to admire—or so he keeps telling himself. He regards the man above all others and can’t understand why he would forgo duty for love. He teeters on the edge of selfishness—the drive for something more. Headstrong Alana is used to disobeying her father, king of the Fae, especially when he commands her. When she sneaks through the Faery Stones into the Human Realm, she never expects to run into the human laird. Despite her cousin’s warnings and her father’s wrath, Alana finds herself increasingly drawn to a man she can never have. Together they share a forbidden union... Alex and Alana find freedom in each other that they’ve never experienced with anyone else. They’re both running from something. Can the solace they find in each other overcome the danger that awaits in both their worlds?
This was a pretty good read. It was a great paranormal story sent in the historical Scottish highlands! I really liked Alana throughout the story and I slowly started liking Alex by the end. There were some odd time jumps but I understand the author had it as a prequel and trying to keep it short so it didn’t bother me too much. I recommend.

Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the prequel to the time-travel, paranormal, fantasy, romance, trilogy, Highland Secrets.

The hero is Alex MacLeod who is pushed into the responsibility of being his clans Laird before he is prepared. Even though he always knew this was his future. His mother is very ill and his father just wants to spend his time as her caretaker. Alex doesn’t understand love therefore he doesn’t agree with his fathers choice putting a woman before his clan and people. Alex tend to be a bit self involved not putting others before himself. Of course when he get a whiff of the thing called love hopefully he will evolve for the better.,.

The heroine of this story is fae Princess Alana. She goes through the faerie stones to hide in the Forbidden human realm. There she meets the and falls for the Laird. He is like forbidden fruit something she might taste but can never keep.

Alex and Alana are both running from futures they both refuse. Yet they will pay the price coming from two very different and forbidden worlds? What will be their sacrifices or risks be? Will love be discovered and hearts be broken?

You will have to read this exhilarating book to find out. I can’t wait to read the Highland Secrets books as this prequel is fantastic!

Fast paced page turner, magical settings, spellbinding dialogue, plotting paced perfectly and captivating characters I so enjoyed.

I was totally mesmerized by this enchanting tale from beginning to end. My first by this author and so looking forward to reading more. I can’t wait to read the first book in Highland Secrets. C

The Princess and The Laird (A Highland Secrets Prequel)
by C.A. Szarek

A definite buy buy buy book! While I gave it four stars, if one or two situations had been handled in another way in my opinion this would of been a super good read! Sigh.... however, it is still a good read! I was engrossed, and loving every second of this story. I cannot wait for more from this author. You will find as the story unfolds that it is quite different then the norm and the expectations that you may of had when reading the blurb. It kept me totally wrapped up and I hated putting it down to even cook dinner! I cannot say enough good things about this read. So , buy and sit and just enjoy! I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom

Prequel to the time travel, fantasy romance trilogy, Highland Secrets!

Alex MacLeod, a reluctant Laird, always knew he’d be leader of his clan, but duty was thrust upon him before he was ready. His father’s devotion to his sick mother is something to admire—or so he keeps telling himself. He regards the man above all others and can’t understand why he would forgo duty for love. He teeters on the edge of selfishness—the drive for something more.

Headstrong Alana, a runaway Fae princess, is used to disobeying her father, king of the Fae, especially when he commands her. When she sneaks through the Faery Stones into the Human Realm, she never expects to run into the human laird. Despite her cousin’s warnings and her father’s wrath, Alana finds herself increasingly drawn to a man she can never have. Their union would be forbidden.

Alex and Alana find freedom in each other that they’ve never experienced with anyone else. They’re both running from something. Can the solace they find in each other overcome the danger that awaits in both their worlds?
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romance.
