The Legend is a romantic suspense novel. It is part of the Sons of Texas series, and follows up after the events of the previous 2 novels. Therefore, to get the most out of this story, it should be read in order.

Wyatt Loughman and Callie Reed have a long and complicated relationship. Though Wyatt had feelings for Callie, he kept them hidden and left her with his family after the death of his mother. He later comes back when Callie and his family are in danger. Not only do they have to keep their themselves alive from those chasing after them, they have to prevent sinister plots from unfolding.

I highly recommend this book for readers who love romantic suspense novels. It is fast past paced and the plot of the story keeps you gripped. It is more focused on the action rather than the romance. There were surprises here and there which kept me engaged. It is well written and engaging with various points of view from different characters. Looking forward to reading the next book entitled The Defender.

I have enjoyed this series but I didn't find Wyatt and Callie's story as believable.
Fifteen years is a long time to have miscommunication keep lovers apart. And as they jumped into the war to find the kidnapped Orrin, Wyatt and Callie just flowed back into each other after a couple of terse conversations. I wanted her to make him work harder to own his part in their separation.
Maybe the danger of fighting with the Saints made them decide not to waste time anymore but I thought Callie capitulated too easily.

The book was still full of danger, family loyalty, romance (I guess) but this one wasn't as good for me.

In the final installment of the Loughman brothers series, Donna Grant brings the last Loughman to his knees. The long-awaited battle between good and evil will be bloody and will have enough twists to keep readers simultaneously thrilled and horrified by it. In The Legend, the eldest Loughman brother comes face to face with the only girl who has ever meant something to him. Believing the only way to keep Callie Reed safe from the dangers his job attracted was to push her away, Delta Force Colonel Wyatt Loughman did just that. In the process, he broke her heart. Now a strong woman, even more beautiful than the young girl he once knew, Callie is an expert sharpshooter and renegade hacker. She's also a key player in his father's military ops. When she becomes a target of the Saints and her dreadful family, Wyatt will do whatever it takes to protect her. Callie never knew Wyatt was the reason her blood family kept their distance from her. From the moment he had left Texas and her behind, she thought she had been on her own. That knowledge and the attraction that still sizzled between them was enough to have Callie back in his arms. If in the end, he breaks her heart again, then so be it. At least she would love him again, even if just for a little while. A dual military romance story with lots of sexy alpha men, wonderfully clever women, evil enemies, sexy moments, hilarious bits and a final battle that will have readers cheering and weeping too... I enjoyed it thoroughly and am not ashamed to say I said a couple of Hell Yesses as I read it.

ARC received for review

Long, drawn out and took forever to get anywhere whether it was with the romance between Callie and Wyatt, or the reunion, or the bad guys attacking. And of course, the main bad guy(s) are still around.

Sorry, Ms. Grant, but I like your Dragon Kings better than these Texas boys.

Action-packed and full of heat and emotion…

The tension between Callie and Wyatt was complex. Their prior relationship, Wyatt’s father, and the real danger they were in, meant close quarters made for a fast-paced story that ping-ponged from one wild moment to the next. Friends or enemies. It was hard to distinguish between them so they had to rely on each other to survive. Hard to do with all the baggage that hung between but that made their story heavy in emotion as well as action. Put two strong, smart, and stubborn people together and fireworks weren’t optional…

The overarching story arc has been percolating and churning through this series and this was the conclusion I’d waited for. But wait… There is too much undone and left hanging for this to be it. We may have run out of brothers but there is definitely more to come. I’ll be here, waiting (im)patiently…

Third book of Sons of Texas.
Second chance at romance for Callie and Wyatt.
A Delta Force Colonel Wyatt never wanted to come back home to the ranch. It brings back all the bad memories. Only happy memories he has of this ranch is few short weeks he spent with Callie.. But he brushed her off and now he is back at the ranch and working closely with Callie.
Callie became more of second daughter to Orrin (Wyatt’s dad). She was the one working beside Orrin while all her sons were defending the country. She was saved by Orrin when her family was trying to drag her into their corrupted family business. She was trained in many different agencies but Orrin recruited her to be with his agency. All she wanted to approval from Wyatt but he really didn’t say much.
Wyatt is never show his emotion ever since he left Callie. He blamed his father for his mother’s murder but he learns it is not clear cut as he digs deeper into the secret society without borders and countries.
Now he is working with Callie and he is trying his best to keep his emotions within himself while Callie is having difficult time keeping it in. What Callie doesn’t know is that Wyatt is the one who has been protecting her from her vicious family. They kept doubting their attractions and their pull.
Now Wyatt is being hunted down by multiple fronts and he will do anything to keep her safe from danger. When they were separated, she was injured and he badly and he will do anything to help her alive. Then he reveals his true feelings for her. He just hopes she will make it through.. Wyatt wasn’t confused about his feeling for her anymore.
Everyone is coming back to ranch to battle....... They are fighting from all the side..
So many people are coming to help.

On this book all the brothers and father gets together and fight side by side. Coming together as a family. IT is a roller coaster ride from beginning to the end. This book had plenty of betrayal, royalty, friendship, love.. Yet ending doesn’t sound like the end of the whole story.. There seems to be a next series tie to this one. There are some characters I would love to read on next series if there is one.
It kept me up at night to finish. Great series!!! I enjoyed all of them but this one was my favorite.

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin Press for my ARC in exchange for honest review.

What’s it About?Sharpshooter and hacker Callie Reed can’t forgive Wyatt Loughman for breaking her heart when they were younger but when she becomes the target of a dangerous organization, she has no choice but to put her life in his hands. For his part, Wyatt didn’t want to hurt Callie but he didn’t think he was good enough for her and made the choice to stay away from her. Now though he is in constant contact with her and his reasons for staying away from her are becoming less and less solid. He needs to focus on finding his father and keeping his family safe and now he has Callie in the mix and their enemies are closing in.

Overall reaction to the book? I’ve read the previous books in this series and while they were good reads, I wouldn’t call them great. They had the potential to be but in some of the important things, they fell flat. The Legend had similar problems as its predecessors and that did affect my overall enjoyment of the book.

First things first though, I did like Wyatt and Callie. They had a history so that made their chemistry more intense and a tad angsty which I loved. As much as Wyatt cared for Callie he did the typical macho man thing of “protecting” her by closing himself off to anything remotely resembling a relationship. Calling on the other hand was a bit more open to something with Wyatt, even though she had a few reasons to want to kick him. I did think she was a bit of an emotional doormat when it came to her personal relationship with Wyatt. Girl forgave him and caved way too easily when Wyatt should have had to hustle and show her why she should pick him to be her guy. I hate it when that happens.

The action and suspense is definitely top notch here. The Legend picks up the high stakes situation Wyatt and his brothers are in and runs with it. I really got into those scenes because Donna Grant didn’t pull any punches with injuries, fatalities, danger, or suspense and that’s what a romantic suspense should have. Hence the suspense part of the sub-genre. I was a bit surprised that the book seems to end on a cliffhanger, setting up for I suppose a bit of a longer run than was originally anticipated. I wonder where the author is planning on going with the series but it does make sense that an organization as bad as the Saints isn’t easily defeated and is much larger than anyone thinks.

Now for the not so great. First off, you gotta read the first two books or else you’re going to feel overwhelmed with all the characters and intersecting sub-plots. You can’t just pick this one up and be able to follow along. Second, Wyatt and Callie don’t actually resolve that issue of their first go round romance, they kind of just circle around it. Their romance never really feels like a second chance romance because they didn’t close the door on the first time. The romance needed more flushing out to me, it fell a little flat. As a team though these two were solid, sometimes a bit too solid. I felt like I was reading about super humans instead of a highly trained man and woman which at times took me out of the story. Unless they ARE super humans, I’d rather they not seem so infallible because it makes the scene less believable and way too predictable. Third, the pacing in some parts of The Legend rival a three legged sloth in a race. I personally don’t like it when romantic suspense books drag on and that’s what happened in several spots with this one. Still, it has its moments of being enjoyable.

Click It or Skip It? It’s up to you. I read this book once and that was enough for me. It isn’t all that memorable but it isn’t a bad read either.

Oh, I read a lot of books from Donna Grant. I like her paranormal romance stories as well as the next. I already read all of the other books in this series too, so it was amazing to be part of an ARC-review event. What can I say? I was totally bought. The characters, the plot, everything was amazing. Seriously, I wanted to cry when it came to an end. Hope there will be more of this series, 'cause they have a special place on my shelf.

Very fun addition to this series. And fun, as in I've been waiting for this for a while. It was fun to watch these two circle each other. Second chance romances are some of my favorites and this is a great example of one.

The final brother has found a way to open his heart to the woman that has always had a place in his life, even as he tried to push her away, and their father has returned to the fold, but I have to wonder—is the series truly over? This series was a surprising contemporary change by one of my very favorite paranormal authors, and while I was skeptical from the beginning, as the series progressed I found myself enjoying the stories more and more. Wyatt and Callie have been forced to team up together in this battle for their family and friends including but not limited to Wyatt’s father who has been like a father to Callie for many years. Wyatt once allowed Callie to breach his defenses, but felt he had to push her away to keep her safe and in the process broke more than simply her heart. Now he is faced with the truth that he wants Callie back and he isn’t sure he can get her back. Working together on their mission they get closer and closer until the passion between them finally explodes leaving them both a bit confused and unsure if they can find a way to save themselves, much less find a way to come back together in a meaningful way. I liked seeing Callie stand up to Wyatt and make him understand that he has a lot to atone for in order to win her back. She makes him work for it which I totally loved; at the same time she has to come to terms with some of the mistakes she has made both in regards to Wyatt and her own choices through her life. Wyatt knows he was an asshole in his past, but now that he is faced with the results of his choices, the loss of Callie as even a friend, he begins to understand what he truly threw away. I enjoyed seeing Wyatt grow and change his way of living as he begins to see what changes he needs to make in his life, but I never formed a connection with him as my hero like I have in previous novels by Ms. Grant. The connection between Wyatt and Callie is explosive from the beginning, which makes perfect sense once we get to learn the truth of their shared past, but when they come together again in the present the passion between them is just as hot. Overall the plot of this story was VERY complex and contained so many twists through the trilogy of books that I honestly wasn’t sure from chapter to chapter who would be an enemy to the brothers and who was an ally, but in the end I felt like there were still a few more plot lines that were not wrapped up, leaving me hoping for another story in the series in the future. Ms. Grant’s paranormal novels will always be my favorite, but I can see how her branching into contemporary novels could lead to a whole new chance for Donna to spread her wings. Keep it up Donna and I can promise you that I will keep reading.

This was the first book in the series I've read, at least I think. It was a good read. I love the fact that this is a true love story, they had met fifteen years prior and even though a deadly shadow hangs over them, their love never died.

Here is a book that I have been looking forward to for a long time! Can't wait to read more by this author!

The title is so damn hot! I mean it gives off all kinds of patriotic and lay down your life kinda vibes

So, we have these heroes all set to protect and serve.

Callie needs no man, she's a badass and a force to be reckoned and then she has to team up with Wyatt..

And there has been some history going on in there!

This is the third installment of the Son of Texas series, 3 brothers and their family fighting for their country but also against something that would bring all the Loughman family together.

This time, it’s the lone star legend, Wyatt to share his story. Team up with the only woman who captured his heart years ago, and now being utterly estranged, because she was threatened, you can imagine that all the feelings buried inside came to the surface, adding more drama to their plates.

I really enjoyed the suspense and mystery. Joining their forces against the organization who created a bio weapon that could literally damage the world but also against other threats coming their way, the pace was settled in a breathless rhythm. It was efficient and easy enough to get caught up in the game.

It was my book by Donna Grant and I liked it!
Even if it’s an interconnected story, I could follow very easily.

Action, badass heroines, alpha guys, strong storyline, and in between a bit of romance! Everything is all set for a great time, I was hooked until the end!

This is the third book in the series and picks up where the last one left off. Now you have Callie you has lived on the ranch longer than she has lived with her family and you get her back story. Who and why she left her troubled family. You also find out why they are back and are looking for her. Wyatt Loughman, the third brother and oldest who the author has not really gone into is also the focus. Beginning with this Delta-Force Colonel always doing perimeter checks looking out for the Saint’s and their next attack. When he finds out that Callie has had a run in with one of her relatives in town they are both thrown back in time. A time when she first came to the ranch and though she was and still is a fighter. It was Wyatt who found her one day beaten and carried her to the house to be carried for. She has always wondered how she had gotten home that day and why her family had backed away, far away. You find out those answers. You also find out more about the Saint’s and the bomb that they were building. The father is still away working at putting all of the pieces together. But this book is about Wyatt and Callie. Will Wyatt let go and give in to his feelings for her. A very good book to go along with the rest of the books, and I thought this story was actually better than the first two. Full of action and some suspense. A very good book.

The Legend by Donna Grant is part of the Sons of Texas series. This is the only book from the series I have read, and I felt like I was missing big parts of character development and the larger story arch. The main characters had a history, which I suspect was part of the previous books. While I could still enjoy the read, I think those that have read the series in order will get much more out of it than those of us that read one alone.

Callie Reed doesn’t need a man to protect her. An expert sharpshooter and renegade hacker, this Texas-born spitfire’s got the skills and the courage to stand up to any danger, no matter how deadly. But when she becomes the target of a shadowy organization known as the Saints, Callie is forced to team up with the one man she can’t outshoot: the gorgeous, and infuriating, Lone Star legend named Wyatt Loughman. A Delta Force Colonel with a rock-hard body and stone-cold heart, Wyatt has been teasing and tormenting Callie since they were playmates on his family’s ranch. Of course, he’s wildly attracted to the fiery, strong-willed Callie. But he’s always hidden his feelings behind a wall of Texas tough and military cool, even as he’s burning up with desire. Can Wyatt save Callie’s life—without putting her love in the line of fire?

The Legend is a contemporary suspense romance. I liked the characters, Callie is a strong woman that has been through a lot but still struggles to stay in a position to be in the right. Wyatt is a strong alpha male trying to stay unattached or connected to others, for their own good. They were a couple briefly, before Wyatt left for the military and the dangerous work it involves. The family dynamics with Wyatt, his brothers, and their father is important to the series and so is the history of Callie and her family. Most of this background information is clear in the story, but it is obvious that those returning to the story from previous books are at an advantage. The book also changes viewpoints, including Wyatt's brothers and and other important players in the larger story line. It was a little too much going on to make me happy, mainly because I felt like I was joining the story halfway through. However, I did enjoy the characters and the way they eventually worked things out. There was plenty of action, danger, and intrigue to keep me on my toes, as I waited for the happy ending.

The Legend is a good book, but there is so much going on with the larger story arches and other characters that were clearly related to the other books in the series that I often felt a bit adrift. The characters and story were solid, but it is clearly a series that needs to be read as a whole, in order.

Had I known beforehand that The Legend was the final novel in a 3-book series, I'd have never requested an advance reader copy of it from Netgalley. Since I did request it, I felt compelled to read it through to the end, and, unfortunately, this was another case of too many characters and their interrelationships flying at you from the very first page. There are lots of good guys, but even more bad ones, shadow organizations, Black Ops, terrorists bent on world domination, bioweapons, a family of career criminals, the CIA, Delta Force, and eventually a romance of sorts, all of which had my head spinning. The aforementioned certainly hindered any chance I had of truly understanding the characters, their interconnections, their history and their relationships to one another. For that reason, I can only give this novel 3 stars. I highly recommend that this series be read in the order it was written.

This is the first novel I've read by this author, and she writes well. I would definitely read her again, but the level of violence in this supposed romantic suspense novel was off the charts and it surprised me. As for the hero and heroine, Callie and Wyatt, I often felt that I was reading about superheroes rather than normal humans. As a woman, I certainly felt more connected to Callie than I did with Wyatt, who starts out as cold, closed off, and unnecessarily cruel to Callie, who had the misfortune to fall in love with him as a teenager. I did warm up to him eventually, and moderately found myself liking the novel by its end, but as I stated earlier, this novel cannot and should not be read as a standalone.
