I’ve read Scarlett’s previous books and have enjoyed them so I was excited for something different from her. Under Fire was a pleasant read. It was filled with intrigue and action and of course romance. The storyline had a good flow and I was interested to see where it all go. All of the characters were good. The leads-Louisa and Six weren’t perfect. They had issues which made them stronger characters and endeared them to me. Together they were lovely. Their relationship was sweet and I liked how it progressed throughout the book (even though at times it was fast). I also enjoyed the mystery aspect that surrounded the story. It kept me intrigued at what was happening and what would happen next. It really gave the story a little extra. Overall, I enjoyed this book and am fascinated about the next book in this series. Six’s co-workers/friends are interesting.

I love Scarlett Cole! Her Second Circle and Preload books are amazing and some of my favorites. I wasn't sure what to expect exactly from this series, but I knew if it was Scarlett Cole I had to read it. As usual, she has created unique characters with flaws that only make them more endearing. Louisa is chronically shy, and Six occasionally suffers from mild PTSD like symptoms. The two of them are an odd pair, but somehow it really works. I enjoyed the development of their relationship and also the development and growing pains of Eagle Securities. I found several characters whose stories I'd love to read, so obviously this is a series I will definitely be continuing.

Scarlett Cole simple cannot let me down. This book was the beginning of a new series from her and it is vastly different from her previous works but no less amazing. This story had everything you need in an alpha hero book. Hot ex-Navy Seal, check, smart and quirky heroine, check, tons of action and a plot that reads like a movie, check.
I could not put this story down, I could see it playing out in my head and I didn’t want to stop till I reached the end. That to me is a sign of an excellent book. Six and Louisa’s story was completely hot and suspenseful. Despite the fact that she was awkward in social situations I could feel their chemistry immediately.
I loved how completely patient and protective of Louisa. This was a great beginning to a series I am incredibly excited to read. Scarlett Cole is a go to author for me and this is yet another book where she has outdone herself.

I love a good romance filled with suspense and action. Under Fire was definitely that.

Louisa is a scientist that is working on a cure for Huntington’s disease. Someone has stolen what they assumed was a fatal, but failed sample of her experiment. She met Six at a fundraiser where he was working security and she eventually shares with him her concerns regarding her work.

Things heat up pretty quickly story wise while their relationship is a little slower to burn. Once the fuse is ignited however, things get hot fast. There was some push and pull due to Lou being a client of Six’s new security business but he finds it virtually impossible to stay away from her.

Lou is practically crippled with shyness but she slowly comes out of it to a degree by the end of the book. I enjoyed watching her grow under Six’s tender care. Six is a great hero who knows when to push Lou and when to back away. He is certainly a man’s man.

This is a fast paced read with lots of action and great secondary characters that I’m sure will be getting their own stories. I’ll be signing up for those as well!

Sixten (Six) is amazingly hot. He takes charge when necessary, but also has a softer side to him. He has come home to run a security firm with his military buddies and they are off to an explosive start. Six is working security one night when he sees the Louisa talking to herself – psyching herself up for her speech. He sees that she's nervous and knows that with his own PTSD issues, what she's going through.

Louisa is brilliant. She works in a lab where she doesn't need to deal with many people – her neurosis prohibits her from being in crowds or with a lot of people. So she keeps her head down, works the science, and hopes to cure the issues that Huntington's bestows on its victims. However, something is wrong and while she can't quite put her finger on it, because of her OCD she knows someone has been in her lab – searching for the potential bio-weapon that was accidentally created.

This is a fast-paced story with a lot going on. They are running from an unknown source, falling in love, trying to figure out where their romance will lead them and, on top of all of that, you have Six's military brothers (who I hope all get their own stories). The romance was part of the story, but it wasn't so predominant that it overtook the mystery aspect, which I appreciated.

I really enjoyed the story, but wish that the resolution wasn't so quick. It resolved so fast, I kept thinking there was going to be more – but I guess it kind of sets up the next book. Hopefully they will be as fast paced and in depth as this one.

I loved the characters, I loved the exciting story, and I loved the non-stop action. As soon as Louisa North discovers that a drug sample has gone missing from her laboratory, her placid and orderly life become a terrifying wild ride. After a frightening break-in, Louisa hires retired Navy SEAL Six and his new protection agency to investigate and keep her safe.

I love Louisa. Scarlett Cole always writes great female characters, but this socially awkward millionaire genius might be her best character yet. Louisa is passionate about her work and clueless about the world beyond her lab. She’s smart and she’s funny and romance writing needs more women like her.

Six is struggling with PTSD when we meet him and he is working hard to get his business up and running. I loved his friends and partners and I enjoyed watching his feelings for Louisa take him by surprise. He’s an alpha bad boy but Louisa gets under his skin.

Together, Louisa and Six complete each other. I loved their chemistry and the way they soften each other’s rough edges. This is a sexy and steamy read.

What I wasn’t quite expecting was the well-developed story of international intrigue and fast-paced action sequences. I fell in love with Scarlett Cole’s writing with her Second Circle Tattoo books so while I expected great romance, the action in this story was an unexpected pleasure.

I loved this book and I am very much looking forward to the next books in this series.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
I was so happy to start a new exciting series involving a group of ex-SEALS setting up a business together. Unexpectedly, Six, one of the owners, falls for a highly intelligent, shy woman who suddenly needs their help.

Louisa is a research scientist who created a drug which could be used as a torture device. When her employer does not act when a sample goes missing, things all start to get rather dangerous. Thankfully, Six is someone who can help her, but then he knows better than mixing business with pleasure. But can he resist, and who said rules were not made to be broken? I love this element of the story – that a major player suddenly cannot help but fall completely for a woman who is the opposite to his usual booty call. It causes some confusion to his partners too – which sets up some questions about what will happen when we surely get their stories. We certainly get quite a few hints for Mac, if not so many for Cabe.

If you like your romance packaged in an exciting story, with good having to triumph over evil and the boy gets the girl – then this will keep you very satisfied. I can't wait for the next installment.

Since leaving the SEAL’s Six has set up Eagle Securities, a security company, with a couple of his buddies. He is adapting to life outside the service but still suffers from PTSD and at times has flashbacks.

Louisa is a scientist who has been working on a cure for Huntington to try and stop more people from suffering from it like her father. She is more suited to working alone in her lab as people make her nervous and anxious especially large social settings.

They meet at a fundraiser when her anxiety surfaces and she is trying to calm her nerves before her speech and he is instantly drawn to her. When a sample and her notes are missing she is concerned as in the wrong hands it could have dire consequences. She decides to hire Eagle Securities to protect her and to find out why the sample was stolen and for what purpose as the danger around her escalates.

I loved these two characters as Louisa was shy and quirky and Six is strong and protective and what starts out as friends quickly becomes much more. The storyline has suspense, twists and action which combined with the budding romance between the two make this an enjoyable read and I look forward to stories about his buddies. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

This is the first book in Scarlett’s Cole Love Over Duty series, and having loved all of her previous books, I was really excited to dive into this one, a romantic/suspense story with some ex-military action and general badassery – always a winning combination.

Sixten ‘Six’ Rapp is an ex-SEAL who has set up his own security company, Eagle Securities, with two of his best friends and combat buddies. He’s only recently out of the service and is adjusting to life back at home, enjoying the simplicities that he has missed and the opportunity to be in charge of his own life for the first time in a long time.

Dr Louisa North is a scientist who is working on developing a cure for Huntington’s disease – a cause close to her heart since it led to the death of her beloved father. Louisa is highly intelligent but suffers from some social anxiety, and would rather be on her own in her laboratory than pretty much anywhere else on earth. She becomes suspicious when she notices some anomalies in her lab, but when a dangerous sample and all of her associated notes go missing, she knows that trouble is brewing. And that trouble becomes very real danger when she suddenly becomes the target of an unknown, but very persistent, assailant.

Six and Louisa first met at a fundraising event and there was a spark between them, but when he comes to her rescue when she really needs him, that spark develops into full-blown attraction that takes them both by surprise.

I really enjoyed this relationship. Louisa’s shyness and nervous habits are endearing, and I loved how openly accepting Six was of her quirks. He likes her and he makes no effort to hide that, and she feels surprisingly safe and comfortable with him, and the chemistry between them builds into a sweet, emotional and passionate romance.

“Let go for me. Lose control in my arms, because I want to lose control in yours.”

When the threat against Louisa continues, she hires Eagle Securities to protect her and investigate what is truly going on, throwing the two of them into an impossible situation as Six is not permitted to have a relationship with his client. The need to claim his girl battles with his need to protect her, and when the danger becomes deadly, he’s in the fight of his life either way.

This was a really good read. The romance was strong and believable, with a great mix of emotion and sexy time (though I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the build-up that occurred off the page), the mystery/suspense storyline was well developed, and contained some good twists, and I really liked the action side of things as Six and his boys did their thing. I loved Six as a character – his protective alpha ways blended really well with his sweetness and vulnerability, and I love how open and honest he was about his feelings for Louisa. He is hot, sweet and swoony and holds nothing back, and he’s a great romantic hero. Louisa’s scientific brain seemed a bit excessive at the beginning of the book with a lot of intellectual dialogue and monologue, but her mellowing out was a part of her character development, and I enjoyed watching the change in her as she opened herself up to Six and fell hard for him.

“Show me,” she said.
He brushed his lips against the skin on the side of her neck so gently that she thought she was imagining it. “Show you what, sweet Louisa?”
“Show me how good sex can be. How good making love can be ... How good it can be to just fuck and really mean it.”

I also really enjoyed getting to know the boys on Six’ team – in particular his two friends Mac and Cabe. I loved the camaraderie between them, and there are hints given about their future stories and I can’t wait to get to those.

This is a strong series starter. The different elements are blended really well, and though the mystery storyline was predictable, it still kept me engaged and eager to see how it would all play out. But for me it was all about the romance, and I loved that part of the story – strong, protective alpha and his quirky girl falling in love with no game playing and no stupid behaviour, just lots of chemistry, sweet, flirty moments, sexy time and swoon.

“I want to know how you feel, Lou. Not how you can rationalize this, or how some biological reaction makes your heart speed up the way it does. I want to know how you feel when I look in your eyes and tell you I love you. Does your heart feel it like mine does?
She covered his hand with her own. “Yes, I feel it, Six.”

“I don’t know where I am going to end up when this is all over, but I hope it’s with you.”

I’m definitely looking forward to continuing on with this series.

Hello Sixton!!! Who doesn't love a Navy Seal?? Not only does he have a rocking body, have a new security business with other former Seals but he has a good heart. When he first met Louisa, he helped her with getting through a difficult situation. He just seemed to know what she needed to center herself. I absolutely loved that about him throughout the book.

When Louisa finds herself needing help she turns to Six. She's a nerdy woman that has her own issues but she's trying hard to overcome them. Six and his team are doing everything that they can do to get answers while Six and Louisa are fighting their attraction to each other. The chemistry between these two is awesome!

Great suspense, a love story that has you rooting for these two and a great start to a new series by this author and can't wait for the next one.

This is the first book in a new romantic suspense series from Scarlett Cole featuring Eagle Securities.

Sixton "Six" Rapp is out of the SEALs and ready to start his new security and black ops venture with his two friends, Cabe and Mac. They have history together and he trusts them with his life. He is outgoing, funny, confident, and charismatic. He is a man of action, but does have some effects from his time in the military that tend to sneak up on him at times.

He meets Louisa North at his first security assignment. She is a quirky, extremely shy, science nerd with social anxiety and a need for order and routine. She keeps up barriers, likes to be alone, and deal with people online. She is highly intelligent, but awkward. But from their first meeting, Six just saw her as interesting and unique. And when they cross paths again, he appreciates her personality, humor, and mind even more and is not turned off by her idiosyncrasies. I loved the pairing of this hot alpha male and socially inept geek. They had great chemistry, banter, and I loved how he responded to her and made her feel special not different.

Louisa's scientific research is very personal to her. So when she starts to see some strange things going on at the lab, she gets concerned. And soon she finds herself a target. So her new friendship with Six comes at a really good time. Things begin to heat up not only between them, but also with the dangerous situation she seems to be the center of. Now it is personal for Six too as he vows to keep Louisa safe and protected. But it is hard to stay on the side of duty and professionalism when he is more personally involved.

I think Scarlett Cole has set up this new series well with interesting characters and a good premise with a lot of potential. I enjoyed this fast-paced story with opposites attracting, mystery, and danger. It was funny, sexy, suspenseful, and action-packed. The characters were unique and likable. Louisa was a totally different type of heroine with all of her quirks, but she was also brave, witty, and had an inner strength about her. She was a refreshing change. And I admired Six and the way he appreciated, encouraged, and protected her. I liked the side characters especially his best friends, Mac and Cabe, and am looking forward to their stories. Mac's was teased a bit at the end of this one.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Romantic Suspense is one of my favourite genre so couldn't wait to dive into Under Fire, the first novel in the Love Over Duty series by Scarlett Cole.

Setting up Eagle Securities is a natural progression for Sixten Rapp as he begins civilian life alongside his childhood friends who he served with as Navy SEALs. He's also happy to return to the town he grew up and the house which holds many happy memories for him. Whilst working on his first job contract, he spots a woman hiding on a balcony before she is due to give a speech. She's not his type, yet Dax is intrigued by her but quickly files that information away when he recognises her distress. Thankfully, he's able to calm her down so protectively waits until she finishes her speech, knowing once this job is finished he won't see her again. Some days later he spots Louise after a car incident leaves her mother injured. He doesn't hesitate to offer his help again. However, when Louisa later confides work concerns surrounding her missing samples, he's determined to assist her again. Only the stakes are much higher now she holds a place in his heart.

Louisa North is most comfortable when she's working in her lab. Dedicated to her work, she's trying to formulate a miracle treatment for the disease her father was suffering from before he took his own life. When active samples she's working on go missing, her gut tells her it more than a mistake. When suspicious behaviour enhances her concern, she confides in the man who has come to her rescue on more than one occasion. Only this time, the stakes are deadly.

Whilst the trope for an ex-SEAL setting up a security company isn't new, I love the idea of the hero struggling with his conscience as he tries to prioritise his work over the developing feelings he has for his client. I especially liked how the author highlights the weaknesses of both protagonists and how they're able to support each other with their difficulties; Louisa's struggle as a social introvert and Dax's trigger issues. How two people with very different life experiences manage to complement each other in the way Dax and Louisa do.

This is my first Scarlett Cole novel and I'm going to check out her other work because I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style. There's a perfect balance between suspense and romance with the addition of situations that make you pause and think. The dialogue has some fun banter between the guys and some tongue in cheek comments that will make you laugh out loud. If you're looking for an action pack novel with intriguing, sexy characters, Under Fire is a must read.

After such a long time (well I feel that way) my Scarlett Cole's Addiction was fed. I loved her books and her stories are nothing less than Brilliant always. She is a master story teller and always hits it on the head.

Ok so Under is the first book in this series and wow what a way to start.
When reading this I was so capitvated by these characters. Their lives, habbits and just them on the whole intrigued me.

Sixton also know as "Six" is an undoubted Badass. He is an Ex-Navy-seal so that already tells you his personality. I loved Frome the first chapter. When you know why he went into the Navy you can't help but fall inlove with him.

Him and his friends spent all their saving into a Security Company... His Friends aka Brothers are amazing you can't help but fall inlove with them. Which makes the next book wait even harder.

So now our heroine she is this Beautiful, Rich sad lady Girl who lives in a Bubble. She has Phobias that really restricted her from being a Normal, outgoing Young Girl. She was freaken intelligent for her age. She is really really so Brilliant. And I loved that about her. I loved that she didn't let her Restrictions hold her back from working hard and living her dream job. She never allowed things to hinder her and I absolutely admired those things about her.

She and Six meet by chance and she is so not his type, mist definitely not. But when you watch them get to know each other and fall in love your heart will swell with Happiness.

When Louisa North meets Six she instantly feels something for him. But is too damn shy to act in it. But when someone is threatening her, he does everything in his power to protect her. He goes above the call of duty for her safety.

Six is really the most perfect man for Louisa. The way he protects her Querckyness and shelters her shyness, they way he brings out the best in her and showers her with safety which in turn gives her an opportunity to be herself is absolutely beautiful. I loved it, damn it makes it impossible to not love him...

This book has everything you would love love love in a Romance Suspence. I could not at all tell who the Villian was , why things were happening the way they were. I'm glad she someone like Six I her corner always.

Grab this book ladies you will definitely enjoy this one.....

Who does not love a hot action man, who is ripped and smart and there to save you. Anyone have an objection to a hero like me. The plot is very extra-ordinary to what i usually read, but i just loved letting myself get swept along with the storyline and i must admit after reading this story i cannot wait to see what other hero uniform wearing men Scarlett has in store for us. Hot and heart pounding action and romance, just what i need to read at the weekend with a glass of wine to relax

Dr. Louisa North is a brilliant scientist working for her Grandfather's drug company, attempting to find a way of controlling the worst of the symptoms of Huntington's Chorea. Her father died of it and she has a 50/50 chance of developing the disease herself. Unfortunately, the latest drug she developed to control these symptoms caused too many side effects so, she puts it away and is working to make a better one. Problem is that she suddenly starts finding things out of place, missing, moved around, etc. This, for a woman with a bit of OCD and paranoia already! Enter Six, a former SEAL, who has opened a security agency with his former SEAL buddies and best friends. They literally run into each other, then Six decides that this woman needs his help and protection, whether she wants it or not! Louisa doesn't want or need his protection, or does she ??!! Multiple attempts to kill her and Six may just change her mind!!!

Former Navy SEAL Sixten Rapp is finding his footing upon his return to civilian life and setting up a security firm with two of his oldest friends. Dr. Louisa North struggles with daily life and prefers to keep to herself even as her genius in medical research makes her highly visible. When an experiment gone wrong becomes a weapon gone right Louisa's life is at risk and the man who steps in to save her may be her biggest threat as he puts her heart at risk.

The first book in Scarlett Cole's new romantic suspense Love Over Duty series, Under Fire, makes a strong and memorable debut. Scarlett Cole's writing is immersive. You cannot read her work without feeling like you are inside the head of her characters and invading their living space. Six and Louisa were an unlikely couple, even to themselves, but Ms. Cole managed to connected them and by the end of this story it is hard to picture them with anyone but each other. Six was charming and seemed the perfect man but carried deep wounds that he hid well. On the other hand Louisa was a wounded quirky basket case and owned it making her one of the most interesting heroines to emerge from romance in a long time. This couple made each other stronger and in recognizing this in each other the energy between them was touching and dynamic. A great secondary cast and an intriguing espionage plot added a nice layer to flesh out this story for a really great read. Scarlett Cole's Under Fire will hold readers captive until the last page!

I loved Louisa – she was awkwardly nerdy without being over the top. She has an issue with being around people and is super smart, but she was raised by loving parents and has learned how to overcome it to lead a somewhat good life. It isn’t a typical one but she makes it work for her. Then she meets Six.

Six is your typical bad-*ss SEAL. He’s strong of body and mind, honed by years of training and missions, but he’s also smart and intuitive. He never expected to be as affected by Louisa as he is – the little scientist does something to her that he can’t explain. And when she finds herself in trouble he jumps at the chance to be near her.

Louisa and Six are a great complement to each other. She has him thinking of settling down and dedicating himself to one person, while he helps her address her fears. Unfortunately once she’s officially a client, it’s hands-off … something they find quite difficult to do :)

Cole does an amazing job of creating a suspense element that not only makes sense and keeps you on the edge of your seat, but works well with the emotional and romantic side of the story. It brings mystery and danger to a story that already had me hooked by the characters and emotions. I can’t wait to see what awesome things she has in store for Six’s teammates!

Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I’m not a huge fan of romantic suspense. But once I saw that Scarlett Cole was the author? I couldn’t download fast enough. I ADORE Scarlett Cole. Her new adult romances are some of the best on the market today. (In fact, you can check out our review of Jordan Reclaimed here. It was an AWESOME read.) And as usual, with this story, Ms. Cole didn’t disappoint.

This story sucks you right in from the beginning, making you a part of Six and Louisa’s world. The author’s writing style is just so conversational and...real. There’s just no other way to describe it. This is a breezy, fast-paced, easy read with realistic, fun dialogue and tons of sexual tension that practically steams up the pages. There’s angst, but not so much angst that it’s overwrought. In other words, there’s a little something here for every type of romance reader.

Six is a great hero, too. He’s alpha and protective and possessive without ever being an alpha-hole. And I found his reasons for being hesitant to start a relationship with Louisa to be a pleasant change from the norm. He wasn’t a commitment phobe, he was just desperately clinging to his professional ethics. I couldn't really fault him for that.

But for me, the best part of the story is the heroine, Louisa. She’s smart, and quirky, and just a little bit antisocial--not the type of woman you’d typical envision with a sexy former Navy SEAL. And never once did she venture into TSTL (too stupid to live) territory, which is kind of rare for a romantic suspense heroine. I won’t get too spoilery, but at one point in the story, she’s faced with a decision that would’ve sent many a romantic suspense heroine running off on her own, unprotected, to try and “save the day” herself. Not Louisa. She did EXACTLY what any reasonable, rationale woman would’ve done in her shoes, and I LOVED her for it! She was the kind of heroine other heroines should aspire to be.

Long-story-short: Don’t hesitate, folks. One-click the hell out of this one. You won’t be disappointed.

Scarlett Cole's first foray into romantic suspense is a winner!  I've enjoyed everything I've read by her before, so I had high expectations.  This totally met them :)

Six and Louisa (or Lou as he calls her) couldn't be more different.  He's ex military, starting a security business with his Navy SEAL brothers.  And he's a lady's man.  She's a dedicated scientist who has social anxiety.  Yet they work so perfectly together.  He brings out the calm in her, and she does it for him too.  I kind of want Six for myself LOL

The action was great, as was the romance.  It was a nice blend.  Sometimes that's hard to do, but Scarlett Cole got it right.  I can't wait for the rest of the Eagle Security's guys to have their stories.

*thanks to the publisher for sharing a copy of this with me*
