Loved this book! It was a little bit fantasy, a little bit pirate, a little bit paranormal, a little bit prodigal son and a whole lot of fun! If you enjoy Kerrelyn Sparks or are just looking for an action-packed book to read out your summer into fall, you should add this to your TBR pile. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy from NetGalley and it was well worth my time.

This is not your mother’s PNR! It’s so different, fun, smart, and sexy. I love the premise behind the whole series. The Embraced all have special powers and each is very unique.

In So I Married a Sorceror we learn Brigatta’s story and her connection to the rogue pirate, Rupert. Rupert intends to use Brigatta in his plot to revenge his family against the current King of Tourin, who’s Brigatta’s brother. One she’s just learned about.

Of course nothing goes as Rupert planned. He didn’t plan for the connection he felt with Brigatta. How his feelings would get in the way. And he certainly didn’t count on Brigatta’s tenacity. She’s her own force of nature.

I so enjoyed the blossoming romance between Brigatta and Rupert. When the truth was finally revealed about their pasts and their true connection. Loved watching them fall in love. Loved watching them work so well together to make things right. Loved how they were able to use their connections and family (not by blood but by their hearts) too. I just love this series and am so anxious to read the rest of the stories in this delightful series.

So I Married A Sorcerer once again returns us to the new magical, mystical world that Kerrelyn Sparks has so lovingly and creatively conjured for us all. I was caught up in Brigitta and Rupert’s stories quite easily. Brigitta knows that Rupert is her future even if he isn’t exactly what he’s portraying himself as. They both have secrets, now they need to find the love and trust in each other to set those secrets free.

Hidden identities, unknown magic, vile enemies, and the love of family will all play a part in this couple’s romance. If you love Paranormal Romance or even Urban Fantasy I believe you’d get easily caught up in So I Married A Sorcerer. It’s a spellbinding tale of revenge, losses and finding the one person who could make everything in your world right again for far different reasons than you thought. I fell in love with this world and reluctantly leave it behind until the next story will draw me back in.

If you’ve read Kerrelyn Sparks’ work before then you know you’re going to find vivid scenes, detailed magic and people to either violently hate or comfortably love. I’d recommend this story or the entire series to any reader who loves finding themselves involved in magic, chaos and love… especially the love part. Indulge yourself and enjoy.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

I loved So I Married a Sorcerer! It was a great rid and I loved every minute of it, probably more than the first book. Brigitta gets kidnapped on the way to Eberon by pirate Rupert and she learns she’s a princess and has an awful half brother that wants to marry her off for political reasons. Although she’s kidnapped, she’s not mistreated and eventually learns to appreciate and love Rupert.

Brigitta is Embraced and her gift is to find lost things and learn secrets and boy, does Rupert has secrets! She’s beautiful, well educated, brave, very smart, sweet, but feisty. Rupert is tall and handsome, he’s also Embraced and he’s called a Wind Sorcerer since he can control the wind. He’s also very intelligent, honorable, goo, but he’s bitter, slow to trust and full of hate too.

I loved the plot, how misunderstandings were quickly cleared, how they fall in love slowly, carefully, how they play with fire, how protective they are of each other. I really like their relationshoip.

Old characters, like Brigitta’s sisters are in the story, same as their shapeshifter friend Brody. There are also new characters and I laughed out loud with Sister Fallyn, she’s hilarious. There are also quite a few horrible characters, starting with Gunther, Brigitta’s half-brother.

The writing is always so much fun, the dialogue and banter between the charters is very lively. I really liked the romance, and it had the appropriate amount of hotness too. I really enjoy the Embraced series and I can’t wait for Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon.

I loved reading this book from beginning to end which was full of surprises.

Brigitta has spent her life on the Isle of Moon in a convent with her fellow adoptive sisters. While it wasn't a very exciting life, she grew up surrounded by the support of her adoptive family and aware that she has gifts though didn't know who her parents were. She is on a journey to see her eldest sister Queen Luciana's birthing along with her sisters when they are delayed by a ship that demands Brigitta be turned over for she is the lost Princess of another Kingdom. Just before she can decide whether to go along with this supposed truth, another set of ships show up involving pirates including the famous Rupert who is believed to be dangerous and powerful and Brigitta is forced to go with the pirates to save her sisters and one of the nuns that was making the journey also goes with.

Brigitta soon figures out that there's more to Rupert and his fellow pirates than meets the eye and other than forcing Brigitta aboard, treat her and Sister Fallyn as honored guests... well sort of. I won't give too much more away because spoilers but these two certainly make things interesting for a ship full of pirates.

Then it is revealed the real reason why Rupert wants to go after Brigitta's brother who is King and quite the selfish jerk. Never one to sit idle and let fate take the reigns, Brigitta is determined to save those she cares for and finds herself drawn to Rupert whose hidden heritage will certainly throw a wrench in the monkey works of the Jerk King's plans.

This book was full of adventure, humor, magic, mystery, and what can happen when a lass is determined to set things right. I highly recommend reading this book and I can't wait to see what next Kerrelyn has up her sleeve, also which adopted sister is next to find love!

Brigitta, knew she was one of the Embraced, but she never imagined she was actually the lost princess of the kingdom of Tourin. When she found out, she was being taken by ship to meet her brother, the king. However, she didn’t plan on being kidnapped by the famed pirate Rupert. Rupert is also an Embraced, a powerful sorcerer who can control the winds. He kidnapped Brigitta to finally get his long-awaited revenge. He just didn’t count on his attraction to her. This is the second book in the new Embraced series by this author. I loved that we were able to see the characters from the first book as well as the other Embraced that I assume will have their own books. I loved Brigitta’s bravery. Everything she tries to do to help Rupert and avoid a war, especially in a world she doesn’t know and has very little control. My heart cried for Rupert. He had been through so much that you wanted him to succeed in his revenge. I did like the new side characters and liked learning some of the stories of the sisters. However, while I liked Sister Fallyn in the beginning and found her amusing, towards the end, her paranoia started getting on my nerves. Other than that, everything was well written and I really liked the introduction to another kingdom. I highly recommend to anyone that likes this genre.

I really didn't get into the book until about 40%.
I was just very uninterested in the beginning.
I admired how Brigitta was so strong even when she was scared. However, I grew extremely tired of "sister" Fallyn.
Once the action started, the action continued.
I will say, I knew that Brigitta and Rupert would be together (that's no surprise) but the ending was.

I really liked this read! This story is fast paced with plenty of drama and suspense. Brigitta and Rupert are great characters and the story really draws you in from beginning to end. I was thoroughly entertained by this great group of characters and loved Brigitta and Rupert’s chemistry. Looking forward to more in the series.

This was a highly entertaining book and I'm kicking myself for passing up book 1. The covers didn't really snag my attention. It took reading a few glowing reviews to get me to try this book and I am so glad that I did. This is one of those cases to not judge a book by it's cover.

There is so much going on in this book. It had a little bit of everything from action adventure, fantasy world building with a taste of historical romance. It was fast paced and had great character and plot development.

I loved all the many characters we get introduced to that leaves me hoping there will be quite a few books to come in this series. While this book was romantic it wasn't heavy on couple time, but that is to be expected from a series that has so much going on in it.

It was such a fun, light read that I think this could easily be recommended to everyone who loves fantasy/paranormal. I will be anxiously waiting for book 3! ARC provided by NetGalley.

Growing up on the Isle of Moon, Brigitta knows nothing of her past, except that she is Embraced: born with powers that forced her into hiding. Everything changes when she learns she’s a princess, hidden away from her villainous half-brother who now rules the kingdom. But he knows about Brigitta, and he’ll do anything to get her back. Unless a certain roguish pirate has anything to say about it…

Rupert is both an infamous pirate and a sorcerer with the power to harness the wind. He’s been waiting nineteen years for revenge—and he needs Brigitta to get it. What begins as a kidnapping of the fiery beauty turns into a fierce attraction. But can he win the captive princess’s heart?

Review:

A little fun, a little sexy, a little action = a great book!

I liked this book as much if not more than the first book and I really liked the first book in the series. This time around we have Brigitta who is kidnapped on the way to see her sister by the dreaded pirate Rupert. So I feel I am giving away things by relaying the plot, ugh but here I go...stop if you don't want to know ahead of time......

Turns out everyone is after Brigitta because she is the long lost sister of King Gunther. Plus, she was betrothed at birth to Ulfrid, son of the ruling King at the time. Brigitta's father does some horrible things and Ulfrid goes into hiding. 19 years later, her brother wants her back and Rupert, who is Ulfrid wants to use her to get the thrown back. All kinds of action ensues, high seas and land both.

Really the book is full of things going on, pirates, sorcerers, Hunger Game like competitions, over-throwing governments, dragons....you see, all kinds of things. It doesn't make sense when I say it like that but it is a very cohesive story with lots of twists and turns. I really liked Rupert & Brigitta's romance, it has a slow build-up because they both have trust issues and makes total sense for them and their romance. She was raised in a nunnery, she is not going to just jump into bed with someone. The ending of the story was very satisfying, though the one thing I will say is that Gunther sure does change his tune when he is dying. It seems a little odd compared to him through the rest of the book. Otherwise excellent story!

Cannot wait to see what happens for the next couple.

What a good book! This is book 2 in the Embraced series. It’s about the children born on the night that the two moons eclipse. They are born with a supernatural power and they are called the Embraced. But they are hunted and killed by the Kings on the mainland. Some of the children are secreted away on the Isle of Moon. This story is about one of the children who grew up there. Brigitta and her sisters have left the Isle of Moon and are going to join her other sister, Queen Luciana. They are not really blood family but have grown up together so they are the only family they know. But the Telling Stones gave her a prediction that she would be meeting a tall and handsome stranger in eight months and that time was now. Strange things are beginning to happen when the Royal Navy of Tourin shows up. Then other ships show up that belong to pirates! That’s when Brigitta finds out that she is the Princess of Tourin! She has spent the last 19 years in hiding and everyone else thought she was dead. Now her brother, the King, wanted her taken off the ship and brought to him. Instead, she is taken aboard the pirate ship. Rupert is planning on holding her for ransom because her father had his father killed when he was a young boy. Oh, but plans do change. This was such an exciting book. There are so many things happening that just keep you on the seat of your pants waiting to find out what happens next. And yes, we do have love in the air while all this is going on. I can’t wait to read the books on all her sisters. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.

What a great addition to the series!!! This book drew me in right away and kept me up all night reading til I just now finished. It was charming, sweet, angsty, romantic, a bit humorous, and a touch of action thrown in to keep me happy! I really liked how it was written with dual POVs. I just love being able to see both sides of the story.

I loved Brigitta's character's strength, courage, wit, kindness, boldness, and loyalty. Once she realized the kind of heart and man Rupert was, she began to trust him and help him with his life's mission.

Rupert's past broke my heart. All that he had lost at such a young age and all he had to endure....gah!! It just made me love him because he turned out to be a wonderful man!! I admired his strength, courage, bravery, nobleness, sexiness, and compassion. I'm glad he followed his gut and heart, trusting in Brigitta because he deserved to be happy. And what/how he treated his enemy at the end?! Man!! Was NOT expecting that!!

I so can't wait until book 3, Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon, is released!

This is my honest review for receiving this ARC from NetGalley. Thank you Kerrelyn and NetGalley!

It was easy to get caught up in the world of Aerthlan while reading So I Married a Sorcerer by Kerrelyn Sparks. The second in the Embraced Series is a thrilling, journey into a complete and intricate world that Ms. Sparks has created. I certainly enjoyed her Love At Stake Series but this new one is more; more world building, more complex plots, more convoluted characters, more thrills, and just as much passion.

Perhaps this is a series that should be read in order so that the reader understands the Aerthlan world, but I enjoyed this book on its own. Lighthearted at times, sober at others, this romance is a wonderful read. Nothing could be better than Sparks’ pirate than maybe he’s a sorcerer too whose true love was raised by nuns. Brilliant.

I absolutely loved this book!

Briggita is captured by the pirate Rupert in is attempt to avenge his family’s deaths. However, he’s not at all what she thought a pirate would be like. He’s a Wind Sorcerer and uses his skills to defeat his enemy while at sea.

Rupert’s plan is to take over the country that was brutally stolen from him and his family. While doing so he didn’t expect to feel such a strong connection to one of the people he should hate. Briggita is a strong determined woman who showcases her individuality as well as wisdom and ability to solve puzzles at every turn. Rupert is hard pressed to stay away from her.

This story kept me engaged the entire time and I never wanted to set it down. There was always something new around the corner, another hurdle for this couple to overcome or mystery to solve. I enjoyed getting to know both of these characters separately as well as together as a couple.

Fast paced, full of quick wit and interesting secondary characters, I fell in love with every word in this book.

Dual POV
Safe
Triggers – no actions taken but some talk of taking the heroine against her will – very minor.

The second in Kerrelyn Sparks' Embraced series was a ridiculous amount of piratey fun! Brigitta is on the high seas with her sisters to newly visit her sister Luciana when they are set upon by her estranged brother's naval armada. It turns out that she is also a long lost princess! But when she learns the truth about her brother, she can't believe the horrors she's escaped. Only to fall in to the hands of one ruthless pirate king b the name of Rupert....but is he so ruthless when she begins to fall in love with him?

I loved the set up that Sparks gave us with both Brigitta's past and Rupert's; truly a tale worthy of Game of Thrones with twists and unexpected secrets revealed at every turn. There's comic relief to rival any Pirates of the Caribbean joke and the swoon worthy lines from Rupert are just *fans self*. I love this love story! Seeing behind the mask of pirate Rupert left me wanting more and more of his heart. And I won't spoil the big twist for anyone but I saw it coming but was still so shocked!

Where the first novel in the series had action, our second story is action PACKED! There's magic and dragons, battles at sea, and a tournament to win the hand of a fair princess! An old-school version of romance action hero meets the fantastical world of far off lands and ancient tales foretold: I can't wait for more of The Embraced!

This is the 2nd book of the new series. From the previous we have read that Luciana has a slight power of foresight, so, her sisters of the heart ask her to read Brigitta future...And she did...

As I was reading this book, there were times that I wanted to laugh so hard that tears would leak from my eyes. It was such a delight to read this book.

From the way Rupert and Brigitta met to the way they found the reason behind the main plot of the story. It was full of laughs, tears and frustration. Not to mention the way Sister Fallyn kept on being ...well...her....

Each turn of the book was exciting. It made reading this book easy. And with the her gift, it made you want to know who Rupert is.

There were parts that it really made me cry, it was such a painful part, that even in a memory, it is too painful to handle. The same goes when you judge a person based on their occupation. Not all pirates are bad, some just did it to survive and to even out the odds. In this case, it was really for the good of the kingdom.

“It never frightens you to be up so high?”
“No. I like the vastness of the sky. It makes me feel like anything is possible.”

This convo between them was good. Each words uttered by Rupert reflects his passion, not just for Brigitta, but for the people he never forgot.

Kerrelyn Sparks books gives life in a way that it made us realize how important lives our . We may show people that we are the same, and yet, history of this series, suppress the lives of many children that are under the eclipse needs to die or hide.

As the new king and queen reigns, things will be different, and by the looks of this book, some people are still opposed to the change.

I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Book two in the Embraced series.

Ms Sparks has a way of drawing you into her magical world through her writing. This is Brigitta, an Embraced Princess and Rupert, a pirate who can control the wind.

Being Embraced, Brigitta has powers but doesn't know what she is as she was hidden by her parents when she was born and not told about them for fear that those who are jealous and afraid of her powers will kill her, and so she was brought up by nuns.

Rupert wants revenge for the death of his family and kidnaps Brigitta and a nun when they are on their way to visit her convent sister Luciana.

Brigitta is just a pawn but he soon realises that he's falling for her.

This is a fantastic story, filled with all the usual magical creatures, adventure and evil men, I couldn't put it down and I was hooked from page one.

I received an advanced copy from Netgalley and I

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this in advance in return for a review.

"So I Married a Sorcerer" was a funny and very entertaining read. It is the second book in this series and does build upon the first book, revealing more of the world, more about the Embraced and more of the political intrigue between the kingdoms, but there is enough of a recap that this book could be read first. (Though I do recommend reading the first book if you enjoyed this one).
While the couple from the first book is probably my favorite so far (beauty and beast theme gets me every time), Rupert and Brigitta are also very enjoyable. They have a rocky start, but as they learn about each other and get closer, it makes you want to keep on reading and see how it ends.
Probably my favorite part of this book was learning more about the Embraced and their powers though. The world that Kerrelyn Sparks is building is a fascinating one, and with each book you learn more about this world and how the Embraced fit into it, for good or ill. I look forward to the next book and to learning even more. Of course, I also look forward to the humor and romance that Kerrelyn Sparks does so well!

"He would regret kidnapping her, she's make sure of that. For he would soon discover that she was not a willing captive."

FINAL DECISION: Filled with fun and adventure, I really enjoyed this second book in the Embraced series. The story of Brigitta and Rupert added to the legend in the world of Aerthlan. A paranormal with a historical feel, the book read like an old fashioned serial -- in a good way.

THE STORY:  In the world where those born when the moons eclipse have magical powers but are hunted and in danger, some of these Embraced have found refuge on the Isle of Moon.  Brigitta has spent most of her life hidden in the convent on the Isle of Moon; she is Embraced. On her way to join her sister of the heart, Brigitta finds out that she is a princess whose evil half-brother wants her back to help secure his bloodline to the throne. Just about to be taken by his troops, Brigitta is kidnapped by the pirate Rupert who is Embraced and has the power to harness the winds. Rupert has plans to use her against her half-brother, but has many secrets of his own. Including one which involves Brigitta herself.

OPINION:  This book is one adventure after another as Rupert and Brigitta meet, deal with Rupert's abduction of Brigitta and then also confront her half-brother. There are sea battles, dangers and, of course, love aplenty. Secret identities, lies, hidden motives, abound along with varying paranormal gifts.

Brigitta, along with her "sisters", have been awakened by the events of the first book in the series. They are now aware that they may not be orphans but may have some secret unknown pasts. As the series progresses, I expect that we will learn their stories. Here, we learn that Brigitta comes from a family of usurpers of the throne. There is no happy family ending waiting for her. Brigitta is an interesting mix of naivete and practicality. She has an innocent heart, but at the same time, she has strength and a determination to chart her own destiny. Having a hidden past, Brigitta is just finding out who she is. This is her time to create herself after finally reclaiming her true identity.

Rupert has a different journey. He knows too much about the past and it haunts him. His story is not reclaiming the past, but rather his finding freedom from the past that at times overwhelms and smothers him. He also happens to be a sexy, powerful sorcerer who rules the seas. His story here is also a discovery story. Rupert is rediscovering who he should be. In a real way, he is rediscovering himself as well. A man who has kept himself hidden, he might have more knowledge than Brigitta, but he has also been unable to claim his true self.

A swashbuckling adventure, the story barely has time to take a breath before a new dilemma arises. It truly feels like an old time serial where the hero and heroine just solve one problem before a new adventure presents itself. I really enjoyed the pacing of this book which felt exciting and fun. I somewhat expected the ultimate twists and turns of this story, but the frantic pace kept the story moving.

I thought that this book picked up the ball from the first book in the series and moved the story forward. I get some sense that there is a larger narrative at work. Perhaps I am wrong, but I think these individual stories might be building towards a bigger conflict or solution.

Onto the next book of the series -- next year, unfortunately.

WORTH MENTIONING:  Special bonus for fans who read the first book -- twins!

CONNECTED BOOKS:  SO I MARRIED A SORCERER is the second book in the Embraced series. While this book can be read as a standalone, there are overlapping characters so if that bothers you, read the series in order. The romance in this book starts and is completed in this book.

STAR RATING:  I give this book 4 stars.

NOTE:  I received an ARC via Netgalley in order to provide a review. I was not required to write a review or to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.
