Thank you to netgalley, publisher and of course the author for an opportunity to read and review this book. Of course, I had to first pick up the first book in the series and read that first.

I really enjoyed this mystery. It was a well thought out mystery; the author was able to connect all the dots quite well ( which can be difficult considering there were 3 different murder cases being investigated and a whole cast of characters involved)

So far, the first two books in this series have been really good. Looking forward to reading #3 next

Book 2 in the DI Robyn Carter series . After reading and loving book 1 in this series I was actually a bit nervous about starting book 2, in case it didn't live up to the first book. Well I need not have worried. This second book was absolutely brilliant. I love a book that has me engrossed from the very beginning . Secrets of the Dead is that type of book . It is a superb crime thriller that I really didn't want to put down. Fantastic storyline with brilliant characters. This book is so good I read it in one day. A huge five stars from me .

Thank you to net galley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.

I enjoyed this book, it was a great thriller. The characters were well written, the story was quick moving and suspenseful. The main character was easily likeable and relatable.

I will definitely be checking out the first book in the series and continuing on with the rest of the series. I am happy to have found another great book series.

A hotel manager is found dead in the sauna. He has a bad heart and so it is put down to an accident by one of Robyn's colleagues but a friend of the manager asks Robyn to look into for her. It's not long before Robyn is ruffling feathers is it worth it she wonders, but soon other bodies turn up murdered has Robyn found a connection. A real page turner.

From my blog: Always With a Book:

My thoughts: This is the second book in Carol Wyer's DI Robyn Carter series and I am just loving this series! I absolutely devoured the first book in this series, Little Girl Lost, when it was released back in January and have been eagerly awaiting this next installment...and then enjoyed it just as much (I'm just late getting my review written)!

This book kept me on my toes the entire time. The action was non-stop as the bodies piled up, and with so many characters, it was really hard to even make a guess as to who the killer might be. The short chapters only add to the intense pace and suspense, really hooking you into this book, making it almost impossible to want to put it down until you get to the end and find out how it all plays out. It's twisted and intricately plotted with such dark undertones - and I loved it!!!

I really like Robyn and like that she follows her gut instincts - even when others don't necessarily agree with her. She definitely has drive and determination and is willing to go to great lengths to solve the cases given to her. Robyn sticks to her convictions at just about any costs, as her back and forth with her "arch-nemesis" DI Tom Shearer show time and time again! I also loved that we get just a little more background on Robyn - I have a feeling that with each book, we will get more and more. She's a complicated, complex character and there's a lot to unpack with her...so it's going to take a while to figure her out!

I liked that we get some chapters told from the POV of the killer. These chapters give us a little insight into the killer's head and some rational for why they did what they did...very chilling and quite surprising to say the least! But it's these chapters that add such an interesting dimension to an already great book.

I cannot wait for the next installment in this series to come out...this series is definitely a favorite of mine.

Well well... One minute Carol Wyer is just an author whose books I have sitting on my Kindle, a few days later and I've read two of them and want to shout all over the internet about how amazing they were and how you (the crime fan reading this review) should go and read them right away. Now... Go! But just in case you need some convincing I'll try and write coherently about why I love this series so much.

Firstly, Robyn Carter. I loved her in Little Girl Lost but here in Secrets of the Dead we see even further just what a competent and brilliant detective she is, and one who isn't afraid to go down the paths most would avoid in her quest for vengeance and justice. She's a lot of fun to read about and in this story I very much enjoyed her rivalry with detective Shearer. It wasn't really anything original and rivalries between detectives is seen in most novels however I still enjoyed the scenes between them and something tells me the rivalry is only going to get worse in future novels. In Secrets of the Dead Robyn is warned off pursuing a line of enquiry that Shearer has drawn a line under. Enter private detective and Robyn's cousin Ross who is more than happy to go undercover and investigate said case himself. Including Ross in this story allows stuff like this to happen whereas normally Robyn wouldn't be able to do it herself and this is a really enjoyable element of the story and I only hope Ross features as prominently in future books as he does here.

Carol Wyer's mystery element in her books is brilliant. Here we have people being murdered who all have connections with a local spa. Robyn knows she has her work cut out for her and as more bodies start appearing, she fears losing control not only of the case at hand but at any future job prospects with the possible departure of her boss looming and her boss's job becoming available. She's soon on a countdown to get the case solved ASAP. Once again this is a story that the reader as well as Robyn can really get stuck into. Carol does a great job of leading Robyn and the reader down many paths before sending them down the right one. In Little Girl Lost I did work out a number of the twists before they arrived but actually as I read the scenes from the killer's POV in this book I did actually fail to work out who it was and was kicking myself when it was revealed. What followed was a brilliant conclusion that had my heart in my mouth as I read, and which when I finished left me wanting more from Robyn and co because this series is so gripping that even after two books I don't want to stop reading about these characters.

The killer wasn't as interesting (or gripping to read about) a killer (for want of a better description) as the one in Little Girl Lost however the story itself, the writing, characterisation and just the whole book overall was fantastic. Having said that the killer in Little Girl Lost is still playing on my mind and is going to be a hard one to beat. The one here is still extremely thought-provoking and actually when thinking about it is all too believable and is probably one of the reasons I always try and avoid speaking to strangers whenever they speak to me in public. Who knows what meeting one random person one random day can then lead to in the future. Just keep walking if a stranger attempts to make conversation with you...

Two books in and this is providing to be a phenomenal and unmissable series and I can't recommend it enough. I read the last page with a huge smile on my face not only for Robyn but for myself (and anyone else who enjoys brilliant crime novels) at having hopefully many, many more books in this series to come.

I've been on a major murder mystery kick, and this book fits the bill, which is why I requested a copy on NetGalley.

DI Robyn Carter is obsessed with her job, sometimes to the detriment of her judgement. After working a case that makes her a bit of a laughing stock, Carter is at it again when she believes an accidental sauna death is more than it seems. As more bodies begin piling up with clear connections, she suspects something is going on at Bromley Hall - and she still can't quite kick the thought that the sauna is somehow connected.

Robyn is a likeable character who does what a lot of people do - makes her job her life. She has good instincts and rotates the pieces of a case over and over again until they fit properly. As a reader, I enjoy reading about all the different pieces of a case and turning them over alongside the fictional detective.

I loved this book, which is the second in a series. I am already planning to read the third as well!

Oh wow Carol, you have done it again!

Robyn Carter is back with a new adventure, and even though she has a hard working team to help her solve the current rash of murders on her patch, the top brass aren't exactly encouraging of her efforts and she has to do a lot of lateral thinking.

People are being murdered but the motive remains unclear. It is quite interesting seeing how this story develops and I enjoyed that sometimes it is the thinnest of threads that tie people and situations together. Inbetween trying to solve this case, Robyn is also attempting to repair the rifts in her family which occurred as part of her last case. I don't even know how one would go, being a police officer plus a single parent to teens who each have their issues. I like that the author portrays Robyn Carter as a flawed person, not some sort of super woman who effortlessly solves her cases and also has the perfect family, it is much more relatable this way.

I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one.

Highly recommended, 4.5 stars from me.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

Will Robyn be able to solve the most twisted killer of her career before it’s too late?

I give this book a rating of 3 stars. It was a good thriller and kept me intrigued. I did not read the first book in the series, Little Girl Lost. I am not sure that reading it would have made my thoughts on this book any different. Maybe only to get to know the characters a little bit better. I dont really think i will read the next book in the series, as I found it to take me a bit longer to read, so it didn’t quite keep my full attention, i did still want to finish the book. I do recommend reading though, as it was a good police investigation novel, and it was well written. It was more or less just personal preference.

Actual rating : 3.5 out of 5 stars

Secrets of the Dead is the 2nd book in the DI Robyn Carter series. I loved the first book, Little Girl Lost, so I was excited to start reading this one. I definitely recommend reading the first book before reading this book. The characters were well developed in the first book but lacking in this one. There was no connection to the main character, Robyn. This book was more of a cat and mouse chase than a whodunit suspense.

I still enjoyed it and look forward to reading the next one in the series.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of Carol Wyer's "Secrets of the Dead" in exchange for an honest review.

Carol Wyer is back with her second DI Robyn Carter novel and personally, I think it's better than the first.
The body count quickly stacks up this time as someone is clearly on a mission to recover a debt. Wyer gives us a little insight into each character before killing them off and I love a story that interweaves numerous characters. Whilst the reader has more insight into the killer and his motive than Robyn and her team do, this undeniably increases the tension for the reader as we wonder if they will work it out in time to save the next victim.
I always enjoy a female protagonist, especially when they're realistic, ballsy and quick-witted and Robyn is exactly that. 'Secrets of the Dead' told us a little more about Robyn's past and how she is striving to get past the death of her fiancé (this is not a spoiler, it happens pre-books) but we also get to know a little bit more about her team as well. Oh and her cousin and his wife are back to add a little extra warmth and humour.
Crime fiction fans will definitely want to give this series a go and I'm eager to get my hands on book three 'The Missing Girls'.

I loved this book, I love it when I find a new author. It kept you thinking and guessing right up until the end with the twists in it. It was very easy to read and I didn't want to put it down, I just wanted to find out what happened even though I also didn't want the story to end hence I read in it a day. I would definitely recommend this book and author and I will be looking to read some more of hers.

Think I need to plump for a 3.5star rating on this one....though it was a good police case with a few turns along the way I think I enjoyed book 1 more and it took me a bit longer to get into this one before I felt the need to pick it up to continue like I had with book 1
I enjoyed the continuing background characters though as busy as they all were with the case there didn't seem to be much changing in the personal lives side of the book.
There were quite a few characters to keep track of in the police case and this might have also attributed to my lower interest compared to the first book of the series.
That said it was a solid police case and I'd be more than happy to try the next in the series when it's released

Having dived straight into this series on the second book I'm afraid to say I didn't make a connection with the main character DI Robyn Carter to the point where I kind of lost interest.
In fact, I only read this book maybe two or three weeks ago but I have already forgotten most of it which for me, doesn't bode well for wanting to explore this author's works further.
I may go back and re-read this AFTER reading book one (Little Girl Lost) in the hope that my opinion will change as I seem to be in the minority when it comes to reviews.

I did enjoy the frequent switching between POVs and the cover is fab!

Based on my experience, I recommend this series be read in order to be able to identify with the characters enough to become a wish-list author/series.

Thanks to Bookouture for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I have recently finished the first book in this series, 'Little Girl Lost' and convincing myself that when I read a book, I must then read any other books I have outstanding on my TBR pile by that author. so far I've stuck to it (kind of) it was right onto this book 2.
So I get to learn a little more or Detective Robyn Carter right after meeting her in the first book.
Robyn is certainly growing on me, and I think she is going to be one hell of an interesting character.
This book kicks off great with what appears to be a death at a health spa. It's only when someone who Robyn Knows asks if its possible for her to look into the death of her late brothers partner, that it seems it may not have been just a heart attack that killed him. The only problem is Robyn would be stepping on toes of fellow officers if she was to investigate.
But that doesn't put her off. It soon becomes apparent that maybe there was more to it. Robyn enlists the help of her cousin to do a little digging around for her.

Robyn is certainly a bit of a workaholic, and doesn't let the grass grow under her feet, if she has a job to do then she does it.

The plots are well thought out with twists and turns through out the book and this really does keep you turning the pages, It didn't take me long to get through this book. I'm enjoying Carols writing, and this one was a thoroughly good read. I will certainly be keeping an eye out for more in this series. I would have no problems recommending this book to any crime thriller fans.

Many thanks to Carol Wyer, Bookouture and NetGalley, for the ARC.

The second book in the DI Robyn Carter series and what a great read it was. The book is fast paced and kept me wanting to read just that little bit more every time I thought about putting it down. Took me 2 days to read, which for me is virtually unheard of. I honestly couldn't get the book out of my head I was totally engrossed in the world of DI Carter that Carol Wyer has created. The main characters are fantastic and develop from the last book without being repetitive. The killer is one hell of a nut job and although I did work out who they were and why they were doing it pretty early on in the book it didnt detract from my enjoyment.

One of my favourite book of 2017 so far and I cant wait to read the next.

A fantastic read and one I highly recommend.

Despite the fact that I have veered away from police procedurals for some time, this series has attracted many favourable reviews, so I was eager to dig in to see what all the fuss was about.

Although pleasant enough, for me, it didn't stand out from the many average police procedurals out there, apart from the original idea of the killer leaving invoices on each of his murder victims.

I also found that there was something lacking in the main character Robyn, I couldn't quite connect with her or what she was going through. There wasn't enough emotional character detail for me to invest in her on a deeper level.

Another issue is I would often catch myself skimming over the added inserts of the killer's difficult childhood. It may have given us some understanding of his character, but I felt it didn't add to the suspense of the story.

I thought it far fetched that the story wrapped up with the murderer being located on an implausible gut instinct as opposed to factual evidence. This seemed highly unlikely!

All in all, I gave this a 3 star rating. I am unsure if I would continue reading this series, as unfortunately it didn't intrigue me enough. But like I said earlier, police procedurals aren't my usual reads, so perhaps this will intrigue others more than it did me. I definitely find myself going against the grain on this one.

I would like to thank Netgalley, Carol Wyler and Bookouture for an opportunity to read this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

This book I started with book 2 I have not read book 1 in this series. Robyn Carter is an investigator in London. Was this case a suicide or a murder? A very interesting whodunit book for me. I was on the edge of my seat. I wanted to know how and why and everything in between in this book. I think the author of the most part did a great job. I feel the beginning for me was a little slow but I did not lose interest which for me is great because too slow and I don't always read more. * I received this book from NetGalley and this is my honest review*
