Quite disappointed with this book. I have read most of Karen swans books and this one wasn't up to her usual standard. The main character cesce really irritated me with her constant whining and I'm not sure,where the author was going with her description of clothing. White bloomers., nightdresses battered straw hats, really????!!!! Think she wanted to create a quirky character but personally she grated on me. I liked the past and present aspect to the story,but even that could have been so much better seeing as it was the main storyline. All in all I'm sorry to say the whole story was frustrating ! Could have been so much more gripping but sadly for me, wasn't.

I loved this book. A great story line set in a beautiful city. The characters were well rounded and interesting. Mystery and romance what more could anyone want?

I love Rome and this book captured the essence of the city while the tale unfolded of what had really happened to Elena during her life. It showed that what we perceive to be the truth and what is real aren't that far away from each other and it mainly down to the telling.
I enjoyed this book and would read more by the author.

Thoroughly enjoyable read. Easy flowing and likeable characters. Made me feel like I have been to Italy even though I haven't. Loved the ending and was not what I expected!
