A cat named Prozac, murder, lots of suspects, emails from mom and dad, a giant waterbug, island natives and comedy! This book was a delight to read. The main character, Jaine envisions that her job working for a reality show on an tropical island will be filled with pleasant days and lots of fun; however, real life is filled with surprises.

This book was a rollicking adventure with one laugh-out-loud scene after another. The addition of snarky thoughts by the the cat add an extra layer of hilarity to the story, and even in tight situations, where things should be scary, something always happens to keep things light.

I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to more by this author.

I didn't care for the writing style. I didn't find depth nor an interesting story in this one. I found the whole thing about Tai and the king unnecessary and just disjointed

As always, this series is rip-roaringly funny. I love Jaine and her super smart cat Prozac. This is one of my faves in the cozy mystery genre. It's not necessary to read these in order, but you'll want to read them all anyway. Loads of fun, and I love when Godzilla makes his appearance. The mystery keeps you guessing and is very entertaining. There's never a dull moment, and I just loved it.

I've read all the Jaine Austen stories, and they always bring a bit of humor to the table. It's nice that in addition to her fame as a jingle writer, she can branch out into D list reality shows! And Prozac is always along for the ride!

Freelance copywriter Jaine Austen thinks she has landed a particularly excellent gig this time -- helping out with dialogue for a cheesy reality show set in a tropical paradise.

Turns out the lodgings are uncomfortable, the food is questionable, and Jaine's tropical crush has a very surprising ulterior motive. "Paradise" definitely doesn't describe it.

Jaine's cat accompanies her on this disappointing jaunt, and that doesn't make any more sense at the end of the book than it did at the beginning. There are also a lot of uncomfortable moments reading island stereotypes. If you can get past that, the zany characters and over the top adventures are funny and fun.

Except for the murders. Although in this installment of the Jaine Austen series, murder is almost a background incident compared with the rest of the events. Jaine is drawn into crises back home through email, and at some points it looks like she may not make it back home at all. Everything gets wrapped up neatly in the end, though.

I was really looking forward to this one since Jaine takes a job writing for a TV show - and that hasn't happened since the 2nd book in the series, Last Writes (my introduction to the series, so I have a soft spot for it). Unfortunately I had a lot of issues with this one - namely the "humor" which fell just about as flat as Pampered to Death (where all the food stuff seriously had me questioning whether or not Jaine had an eating disorder).

Levine usually has a Dating Disaster gag in each book, and this time that gag revolves around cultural differences. Jaine finds herself set up with a tribal leader in a polygamous culture looking for Wife #12. And of course he's gross, disgusting, with a pot belly and only 6 teeth in his head. Ha ha! So funny! Your culture is different from mine! I'm the White Girl from California, and you're silly brown people on a tiny Caribbean island! What mad-cap adventures! What silliness! Let's point at the natives and laugh at them!

Yeah. None of this worked for me and frankly it's offensive.

Then there's the fact that our murder victim was blackmailing one of the suspects over something that would have been acceptable blackmail material in 1980 (probably) - but these days? Um, no. The only bright spot here is that the blackmail victim is like, "Whatever. I'm not ashamed. I told her to go eff herself." A small saving grace - but VERY small.

I also found the mystery not as compelling this time around. Levine has a knack for red herrings and providing plenty of suspects in a short word count - but there was zero second guessing on my part while reading this.

So yeah. Disappointing to say the least with unpleasant "humor" that darn near turns me off the series entirely.

This is one of the more consistently entertaining series I read. Prozac (yes the cat) is one of my favorite characters, although I can't imagine the flight to Tahiti. Jaine is funny, her parents are funny, the situations are funny but it never goes over the top or gets twee. The mystery is not too complicated and this time around the details of dealing with reality tv, as well as a tropical island, are just delightful. Thanks to net galley for the ARC. You really do not have to have read others in the series to enjoy this one- it's a terrific beach book.

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. This Jaine Austen Mystery does not disappoint.

I always enjoy 'visiting with Jaine and reading about the situations that she manages to find herself. A writing gig on a tropical island sounds wonderful, but this is Jaine. Her adventures with Prozac, solving the mystery and as always the emails from her parents ensured a very entertaining read.

Death of a Bachelorette by Laura Levine is part of the Jaine Austen Mystery series. Jaine is on her way to the tropics with her cat Prozac in tow to be a writer for a new reality tv series. The fabulous job in paradise turns out to be anything but. The bachelor on the show is incapable of reading his lines, and the entire crew is miserable. When one of the bachelorettes is murders, Jaine must solve the crime or be stuck on the island forever. I guessed the murderer early on, but I still loved the book. Prozac and e-mails from Jaine's parents continue to add entertainment. This is an enjoyable summer read.

I know that once I open up a Jaine Austen book that I will be enjoying all that is happening with Jaine in the middle of all the action, especially the capers that seems to follow her no matter where she is and in this book, she is Tahiti where the accommodation is not what she expected and the contestants and crew are strange indeed, which all adds to the humor that takes place in this engagingly entertaining mystery. In addition to solving a murder, Jaine has to contend with a suitor and of course the daily deluge of emails from her parents and Lance. This is another great book with witty repartee and a cast that is delightfully charming, especially our feline companion. I can’t wait to read the next book in this hilariously humorous series.

I really liked the premise of this book - a murder mystery on a reality show set - especailly as I'd just watched an episode or two of UnREAL. But the execution didn't live up to the premise for me. This was the first book in this series that I've read, and the narration just didn't grab me - Jaine and her cat are not my sort of detectives and I thought a couple of the subplots were a little heavy handed.

Not for me, but I see that I'm in the minority, so clearly it works for other people more than it does for me!

Hilarious mayhem in a tropical setting. Lots of word play. The emails from mom and dad and best friend provide humorous interruptions in the action. The characters, including the cat, keep it amusing.

I confess. I love the Jaine Austen books. I love Jaine's self deprecating and funny skew on her life. I love Prozac, the cat. I am a cat and she speaks for all of us with her commentaries and quips. I love Jaine's goofy parents and their shenanigans at Tampa Vistas retirement village. She makes me giggle- a lot- and laugh out loud at times.
This book is no exception. Jaine has her dream job of writing for a reality series on an island paradise. Or so she surmises. *Snorts*. If you know Jaine, it is not going to work out the way she thinks. She must survive the machinations of the bachelorettes vying for the hand of the dumbest prince in creation. As the contest is down to two, all hell breaks loose and one of the two is murdered. If Jaine wants to escape sauna central without becoming wife #12 of the local chieftain and expiring for lack of Chunky Monkey or any other edible food, she is going to have to help the local cops.
I am not paying the chaos justice. If you like wild and wacky and very, very funny, check out Jaine and Prozac. It's a great read for a vacation. Just be careful where you read the book. Some humans look askance at other humans laughing too loudly.

I loved this book! This book was delightful from beginning to end. It is a take-off on The Bachelor tv show. The book begins at the end of the show when it is down to the final contestants. I wished to be there for the entire season! The characters in the story were very vivid and distinct, and funnier the more we got to know them. The best part of the book is the Epilogue, where everything's hilariously neatly wrapped up. I will definitely be reading more from this author!!

If you want a fun mystery where you end up laughing through the whole book, this is the book/series for you. Please keep them coming Ms. Levine.

Laura Levine always gives you a great cozy to enjoy and her Janie Austen series is one I love. This is book 15 and Janie and Prozac her cat just keeping getting better and better. Because she loves writing she grabs the chance to write for a reality tv show, especially when they encourage her to bring Prozac with her to the Caribbean island paradise. When the front running bachelorette is killed Janie starts investigating. Good mystery and lots of laughs.
