As Scot on the Run started, I wasn’t sure if I was going to really enjoy the story. But, as it progressed and we saw the true Bella and Ian, I was amused and actually enjoying the banter between the two of them. Of course, Janice Maynard’s writing style and the way she kept us all on our toes, helped a lot.

Bella and Ian are both what we would call book-worms or nerds. The difference between the two of them is that she’s an ordinary woman from North Carolina and Ian is the 2nd Most Eligible Bachelor (second only to Prince Harry) in Great Britain. But, they really have a lot in common and it comes out in the way the snip at each other, argue and just can’t keep their minds off the other. Bella may have been looking forward to her time alone in Portree but, Ian slamming into her life may have been the best thing that ever happened to her. And, Ian, even with his notoriety and problems, was just what Bella needed to see the trees through the forest.

The descriptions of Scotland, the historical buildings, I felt like I was really visiting this beautiful island. I was able to visualize the castles and hear the lilt in Ian’s words. That mesmerized me and had me wishing for a trip to the British Isles. I loved that she brought Prince Harry into the story. She was able to show us different sides of two very socially backwards people, made us understand Ian and why he was frustrated with the paparazzi … she handled his life with grace and style and made us appreciate just what he went through. The same can be said for Bella, what she endured during her life and why she is like she is.

The ending was beautiful. I loved Christmas, I loved the chapel. It was a perfect and fitting ending to Bella and Ian’s love story and I couldn’t have been happier.

Bella is housesitting in Portree, Scotland, for her brother, Finley, while he’s on his honeymoon. She expects a quiet time, enjoying the harbour town’s breathtaking views and quaint shops. So imagine her surprise when one of Great Britain’s most eligible bachelors comes pounding at her door in an attempt to evade both the paparazzi and a flurry of female fans. Unaware of his celebrity status, Bella reluctantly gives him sanctuary. Yet the surprises keep coming, and soon she’s persuaded to accompany him to Edinburgh . . . as his faux fiancée. But while helping him fend off his ardent admirers, Bella just may gain one very authentic admirer of her own .
This was a sweet and quick read. I enjoyed reading a book about a Scot that wasn’t a historical book for once. My only problem with this book is Bella. In the beginning she’s snippish and outright rude with her ridiculous assumptions. While she does change and their chemistry eventually comes through, it almost made me not want to finish the book. Still, it was likable enough that I would like to read more from this author.

I :have enjoyed all of the other books by this author but I felt that this couple had a very difficult time making their relationship work out.

Bella was housesitting for her brother, Finley, in Scotland while he and his fiance were on their honeymoon in Greece. She was working on her final project for her doctorate and she needed some time away in beautiful Scotland for some inspiration.

Ian, who was chosen as the #2 most eligible bachelor in the world was on the run from the paparazzi. Finley had told him he could hide in his house in Scotland. Finley, however, had forgotten to warn his sister. Ian was a nerdy scientist who was very handsome and not interested in any of the media hype.

Bella was snarky but interested and Ian was geeky and interested but their chemistry seemed to be lacking a strong connection. I read 75% of this book and just had a hard time feeling that their chemistry was significant. They were both constantly thinking about getting the other in their bed but the chemistry didn't seem to match their thoughts.

I was given an arc copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Bella, visiting Scotland and house sitting for her brother, finds herself sheltering one of Scotland's most eligible bachelors from the media.

An agreement to house sit during her brother’s honeymoon brings Bella to Portree: expecting a quiet time with plenty of good views, quaint shops and time to read. More comfortable with her books and academic pursuits, the last thing really on her mind is love.

Ian, also more comfortable out of the spotlight and truly not comfortable with all of the kerfuffle surrounding his appearance on the most eligible list of Britain’s bachelors. He’s constantly finding paparazzi and fans around every corner, and when his friend Finley’s offer to stay in his house in Portree comes to mind – he runs for it. Only problem? Finley isn’t there, but his sister, Bella is.

These two are cute: there’s great interplay between them: they bicker and battle in a round-about flirting way. Both are intelligent and clever, neither is completely comfortable with their own social skills, or the whole idea of love, flirting and just general interactions. Much of the story is based in their back and forth – with Bella’s insecurities and discomfort much more prevalent as she is constantly on guard and attacking. It made her harder to empathize with, even as it was easy to understand her discomfort. Ian is wonderfully inappropriate – while he’s aware of his good looks, they are certainly not in his ‘game plan’ of dealing with Bella, he’s more of a foot in mouth guy when it comes to flirting. But, their connection is undeniable, their intelligence more than a match for interesting conversations and the twists and turns just show them both how much more they will enjoy life, together.

Cleverly plotted and sweet, the two characters make this a fun and lighthearted story with plenty of moments to ooh and ahh, several moments where a hand over mouth is called for, and ultimately, two characters who you can enjoy as they stumble toward a happy ending.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This series has been great fun as friends traveled to Scotland in search of all things “Outlander”. Now that one of them is marrying Finley, his sister, Bella, is housesitting for him. Scot on the Run by Janice Maynard is her story. I was thrilled that she has received her own HEA but the most fun is that the guy for her is a smart scientific type of guy. They definitely have the word sparring down pat, which only encourages the hot attraction between them.

Still wonderful story telling, witty dialogue, and engaging characters make book four of the series a real keeper, just like Ian is. I dare anyone to read Ian and Bella’s story without a smile continuing to creep on their face and sometimes to downright laugh out loud.

This series will make you love all things Scottish, especially the people. Scot on the Run just adds to the delightful-ness of the series. Recommend to all romantics at heart.

I was asked by the author for an honest review.

I would have liked to give this book 3.5 stars. Most books I would read in one sitting if it were possible (it's usually not), however I easily took a few breaks from this one. That being said, some aspects of the story I really liked. For example, I thought that Bella's experience with the first love scene was totally different than pretty much every romance novel I've read (at least for love scenes between the two main characters). I also liked the references to Outlander and Harry Potter as I've read both series.

When Bella is asked to house sit for her brother while he is on his extended honeymoon, she thinks it is the perfect opportunity to spend some time working on her dissertation. As a bonus, the house is located in Scotland, a place she has wanted to visit forever.  The last thing she expected on her vacation was a houseguest, though, especially one as handsome as Ian.

Ian is on the run from the paparazzi after being named the #2 bachelor in the U.K. (#1 being Prince Harry, of course). He has no place to hide, so contacts his friend Finley, who has a house on the Isle of Skye. Finley tells him he is not there, but gives permission for him to stay. Ian doesn't realize until he gets there that the house is already occupied by Finley's sister.  Ian and Bella know they should keep their distance from each other, but aren't sure how to do that in a small house when they have such a big attraction to each other.

I would give this book 3.5 stars. It was a cute, quick read, and even though it was not the first book in this series it worked well as a standalone novel.

So what I am going to say is if you want a sweet summer read, this is the book for you.  This is about two nerdy people that have a hard time communicating with people, but they are sorta geniuses.  They get tongue tied a lot and  very embarrassed when they don't know what they say, but its really cute to live in their world for the short time we do.  You will love the characters, they are sweet and just view the world in a different light than your average person.  It took me a bit to get use to the wording, but after I figured things out it was pretty cute to see their life before me.

Ian is over the top at times.  He is extremely smart and he is on the run.  The press wants to know everything about him all the time because he makes things and the last thing he made helped the naval defense.  He wants to get a way and find an escape, so in comes Bella.  Ian is this really cute nerd that you will fine pretty irresistible.  He has this hidden charm that I don't think he knows he has at times, but it comes across in the writing of the book.  Bella I had a bit more trouble connecting with at times.  She needs to write her dissertation so when her brother gets married she gets to live at his home for six weeks.  Solitude is what she is thinking, but that ends with the banging at the door.  They have an immediate attraction, and they try to fight it, well Bella does, and that is how this all begins.

The author did a great job writing and I enjoyed  the book.  You can read the book in a few hours and I will tell you that it is worth the read.

Scot on the Run by Janice Maynard
Kilted Heroes #4

Two very intelligent nerds find love in Scotland…eventually. Bella is housesitting for her brother when a bachelor with money and fame that he is running from shows up at the door. He is a friend and customer of her brother and has been told he has is welcome any time should he need a place to stay. So, he moves in. The two have a prickly relationship from the beginning with some chemistry but many glitches along the way. With sightseeing, missed and mixed-up communication, a lost child to find, a visit with the queen and other things the story provides much to contemplate. There is an eventual HEA but it is not smooth sailing for either Bella or Ian in this story. I liked the story but it is probably the least favorite of the series for me. I found Bella snippy and hard to like and Ian awkward with both having moments of being more and better than they usually seemed in the story.

I've enjoyed reading Janice Maynard's "kilted heroes" series. Scot on the Run was sweet and fun although it is my least favorite of the four. It's a good read I just don't go for conflicted, scared male character stories.

I was completely and totally sad when Finley and Mackenzie’s story in the Kilted Heroes series was finished. Imagine my shock earlier this spring when...SURPRISE...we get a fourth book in the series, Scot on the Run :)

Bella and Ian’s book was pretty much adorable all around. Bella is a bookwork worm through and through. She’s working on her dissertation and is house sitting for her brother, Finley, in Scotland for a month while he is on his honeymoon. Suddenly a harried, hunk of a guy is at her door begging to come in. Turns out Ian is a friend of Finley’s trying to escape the paparazzi because he’s one of the most eligible bachelors in Great Britain. Who would have figured?

It doesn’t take long for things to heat up between the two and soon Bella and Ian are all cute, cuddly and getting personal with one another. It’s just fun and games though, right? Ian has to go back and work at his think tank and Bella needs to go back to America and finish her dissertation. Love seems to not be in the cards for these two until suddenly both of their hearts get involved. One of them has to confess and compromise to make things work, but just who will that be?

4 stars for Scot on the Run by Janice Maynard!

Pet Peeve Alert: The epilogue of this book really wasn’t an epilogue; it was a totally, 100% necessary part of Bella and Ian’s story. End pet peeve vent.

SCOT on the RUN is a charming and endearing contemporary romance.

The relationship is quickly developed between jaunts of verbal combat and witty debates and dialog. What else would you expect from a romance written around two academics?

Enjoyable, entertaining and enchanting!

Disappointed.
I don't know what it was about this book but I just didn't enjoy it. I couldn't connect with the characters and didn't feel that they had depth. Bella was snappy rather than witty and Ian sulked and we kept being told ad nauseam how ultra intelligent they both are (I counted 56 instances!). I didn't feel any heat between the couple nor any romance and I was glad when I finished it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

This is such a refreshing story. Bella is house sitting for her brother Finley so he and his new wife McKenzie can go on their honeymoon. Some of you may remember them from their book. If not not to worry you get a bit of back story on them. Bella is a bookworm like I'm sure many of us are but she is also a woman who is exceptionally smart. She is a woman of many facets. Ian is a genius scientist who only wants to work and be left alone except he is now be put in the public eye as the worlds #2 Bachelor. Running scare he calls his friend for refuge and ends up at the house with Bella. The story explodes or implodes from there, either way you look at it. It's fantastic and had me hanging on each word the two of them played off each other with their dorky wit and awkward flirty. Oh just read it you won't be disappointed. It was so far one of my favorite books of the summer, I totally related to Bella

This was an enjoyable story about two extremely bright introverts set in the Highlands of Scotland. The awkwardness as they established a relationship was mostly endearing and sweet. Each separately needed to deal with issues from their upbringing that seemed insurmountable. I could have done without the overt sexual overtones and activity, but in the end this was a charming look into life on the other side of the pond.

this was a nice story. Didn't really hold my attention

This book is so good I want to cry. I honestly don't know where to start; I loved the pace, not too slow, not too fast. Just fast enough to make you want to stay up all night reading it, and slow enough to make you want to cherish the overly swoon-worthy scenes between Ian and Bella. I'm totally serious; it's like so swoon-worthy it makes you want to melt into a puddle of goo. Probably under a rainbow. With unicorns. You get the picture XD.
But what I loved the most is how light and heartwarming the book is. Swoony parts aside, Bella and Ian's story was so beautiful, sincere, and hopeful. There's no sugar-coating.
I believe it's crystal-clear now, how much I love it when couples bicker and tease. And, dammit, Bella and Ian friggin owned it. I laughed so hard at times, it was actually embarrassing.
Both characters are prodigies... Bella's obsessed with European history (and she's a bookworm...WHAT UP, GIRL! HIGH FIVE) and Ian is Britain's second most eligible bachelor...That's it.
NOPE. That's totally not it. I've never really given much thought to how HOT it is for a guy to be a prodigy AND to be overly handsome. Like you-look-too-hot-for-your-own-good kind of handsome. Wait, did I mention the Scottish accent? Yep, there you go.
