Edward Kelsey Moore revisits the wonderful ladies of The Supremes at Earl's-All-You-Can-Eat. Five years have passed since the first book but Odette, Clarice and Barbara Jean are back and are as close as ever. These ladies know what it takes to keep a life long friendship alive. I highly recommend reading the first book before this one as it introduces the main characters and is an amazing read. However it is not necessary to read book one to enjoy The Supremes Sing the Happy Heartache Blues.

After five years, Odette has become used to seeing her dead mother and Eleanor Roosevelt, Barbara Jean is happily married to her high school sweetheart, and Clarice has her music career. Clarice's mother, Beatrice, has decided to marry her nemesis, Forrest Payne owner of the town's strip club. Forrest calls on an old Blues musician friend to play at the wedding and stay a week to play at his club. El Walker needs the money from the gig but he swore never to return to Plainfield Indiana. Against his better judgment he agrees to play. During a jam session at the Pink Slipper, El collapses and is hospitalized. Barbara Jean begins to visit the poor old man and learns that he new her mother in a foster home. El helps Barbara Jean find forgiveness for the wrongs done her by her mother's issues. A chance encounter at a hospital fundraiser opens old wounds and upsets many lives. Can the wounds of the past be healed? Another excellent story by Moore, and on the top of my reader's advisory list to suggest to people looking for something new.

I love reading books that explore the African-American experience that don't devolve into stereotypes. Each of these characters is well-drawn; flawed, but basically good people. this sequels is a great followup and I hope to see more of this series.

Edward Kelsey Moore has done it again. The Supremes are a group of women who have gone through every thing together. Through ghosts, past blues and heartaches, and even fortune tellers,
The Supremes embody what is like to have true friendship. The characters are vivid and bright and so fully develop that you can't help but fall in love with them and their story.

I received a copy in advance and I was ecstatic. I immensely enjoyed the first book, and was hoping this would be the same. This book doesn't focus on the lives of the Supremes, Odette, Barbara Jean and Clarice, better know as The Supremes. Instead the book focused on an older sick gentleman, named El Walker who is a famous blues singer and musician, with flashbacks to his childhood. The book started off a little slow, but got better later on. The Supremes were supporting characters in this story, and I was just hoping for more of them than what was given. I will still continue to support and read more from this author.

Thanks to Net Galley for an advanced copy.

I liked the first one better but it was such a treat to spend time with the Supremes again.

I enjoyed The Supremes at Earl's-All-You-Can-Eat, so I was excited to read an advanced copy of Edward Kelsey Moore's new novel, The Supremes Sing the Happy Heartache Blues. Plainview’s favorite trio and their families keep things interesting with several twists and turns.

The town of Plainview, Indiana is again the main setting of this novel, but feels almost like one of the characters, a fourth Supreme if you will. Moore has created characters that are lovable, flawed, and relatable. In Happy Heartache, we learn more about the main characters and delve further into Plainview's checkered past.

This book makes me want to take a quick trip to Plainview, listen to Blues music, eat at Earl’s, and of course hang out with the Supremes.

This book didn't resonate with me and I never really got fully committed. The Supremes seem to be a fun bunch of friends and in this second novel there is a lot, perhaps too much going on to build an engaging story around. The ghost thing doesn't work well, as a character device. The storylines seemed forced and don't flow in a manner that makes you want to keep reading. The prose is ordinary and some of the plot points are plain silly. The main story is the return of El to Plainview, IN. A place he vowed to never return to, because of all the bad that happened there. He returns to play guitar at his friends fourth wedding and would like to set the record straight with his son, but other characters and poorly developed plot lines keep getting in the way. Perhaps had the author kept the focus on El through out the novel the book would have come together more cohesively. I think this may be a case of having too many characters to work with and trying to find some way to work them into the story. It just doesn't work out well. I received an advanced reading copy from Net galley in exchange for an honest review. The book publishes June 20, 2017.⭐️⭐️.5️⃣

What a wonderful follow up to "The Supremes at Earl's All You Can Eat". There are times a continuation of a book misses the mark. This one is not that type of book. It was like visiting old friends. Odette, Clairce, Barbara and Jean along with all the ghosts!!! Oh, I love the ghosts. This edition is about forgiveness and as the first book, friendship and family. This book is like an ice cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day; refreshing. There are a few new characters which only add to the wonderfulness of this outstanding book. I do hope that I will see another book about The Supremes, their families, their friendship and of course Odette's ,mother and Eleanor Roosevelt's ghosts!!! Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
