A psychological thriller that kept me hooked despite me not liking any of the characters very much. Judi is Bens mother and hates his new girlfriend from the off. Through the novel we see how she tries to scupper the romance to show that Amber is not who she say she is

It's hard to like a book when you hate all the characters in it. Normally you are rooting for someone but I despised every single character. Obviously that was the author's intent, so kudos to her. The story was suspenseful with some twists. It has a great premise and the writing is good. But I just couldn't get passed the unlikable characters.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and K.L. Slater for a copy of "Liar" in exchange of an honest review.

Utterly brilliant.
From start to finish, as always, I was totally gripped and read in one sitting.
I will never get bored with Slater's books. She's a fabulous writer.
Loved it and will be recommending it to the whole world!

I have discovered most of my new favorite writers on NetGalley. K.L Slater is one of them. Her novels are filled with suspense and always keep me guessing until the end. I always end up talking about these books at work or with friends. "Liar" is another example of an amazing read; and totally worth it!

Dear Publishers.

Firstly, thanks very much for the opportunity to read and review this title.

Unfortunately, I just wanted to let you know that I won't be reading and reviewing this title due to the large number of titles that I currently have on my shelf, and my inability to read them all. Also, I feel that a review at this late stage probably won't assist you or the author. For these reasons, I've decided to tidy up of my Netgalley shelf and I will be removing this one from my TBR pile.

I hope to be able to read and review further titles for you in the future.

Thanks and Regards
Kim

This is another one of those books that you can't put down. A psychological thriller that hooks you from the start. Loved it!

Holy catfish, what a phenomenal read!!!!

I actually love this storyline and when it’s done well, you don’t care that smilar has been done before which is a complaint I've seen from other reviews.

Always hard not to spoil the twists for future readers but there was a few spots where I was verbal with shock or frustration. Whilst I could empathise with the gran to an extent, she really was quite hypocritical at times and it was then hard to be on her side. Completely did not see the last 6 or 7 chapters coming though, bravo 👏🏼 author 👌🏼

What spectacular characters. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Look forward to more from this author 😍

Thank you so much for my ARC, really appreciated it.

Liar while it's cover and synopsis give it the appearance of a generic family drama/mystery novel, it turns out to be so much more that is just hidden underneath the surface. While most mysteries are character driven Liar also has an amazing plot with some amazing twists.

i have read many of Karin Slaughter's books and enjoyed everyone and this is no exception. I was hooked from the start, I the plot twists were pleantiful and the ending unexpected. I enjoyed the plot development and found myself not being able to put the book down. This book is written from two characters point of view, I found my alligence was to Jude throughout most of the book, Jude convinced me to not like Amber! A great read.

Another book by this author that I absolutely devoured and loved! So well written and paced brilliantly! When Ben lost his wife to cancer he was left to raise his two young sons alone. His mother Judi stepped in and picked up the boys from school, doing the laundry and housecleaning, and always getting them together for a special Sunday dinner. This is Judi's life and she loves it. When Ben introduces his new girlfriend, Judi is sure it is not a good situation for her son and her grandsons. Soon Amber, the girlfriend, is making all the decisions and excluding Judi at every turn. Judi is determined to get rid of this girl and get her grandsons back. What a great back and forth between Judi and Amber. A memorable psychological thriller!

This book has sat on my Kindle for over 6 months and I am yet to read it. Whilst I was originally really engaged by the blurb, it's yet to make it to the top of my TBR pile and it no longer really appeals to me. I'm really sorry and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to read and review this book though.

Two women. One family. And their competiton. Soon to be daughter-in-law, a perfect young woman and mother-in-law, a perfect mother and grandmother. But both of them have dark pasts under the façades.

Widower Ben Jukes falls in love with beautiful Amber Carr. But his mother Judi doesn't approve her soon to be daughter-in-law. She thinks there is some secret Amber doesn't disclose. And she is right. However Judi herself has some dark secret as well which Amber knows well. What happens next???

My thoughts
The book has actually two characters. Judi and Amber.

At first I thought that will be another soap opera type story with spat between
women. But how wrong I was!! (But I won't spoil the fun).

The story goes on with Amber and Judi's pov respectively.
After her daughter in law's demise she had taken the initiative to take care of her son and grandsons. But after Amber came to her life and family everything she had gone. Amber was taking the lead and the leash of the family out of her hand. She felt alone and powerless.

At first I hated Amber because of her behavior towards the old frail Judi. But as the story progresses and I get glimpses of Judi's own life.... I was ashtonished. The old frail woman isn't so frail after all.
🔸 A very well knitted plot.
🔸 Very well character portrayal.
🔸 Diction is easygoing.
🔸 A bit slow at the first few chapters but later it runs well.

Overall a good read. I will give it 4 out of 5 stars.
🌟🌟🌟🌟

I recommend it to everyone. You'll love this book.

Thank you Netgalley for my free copy of this awesome book!!!

Wow! This story kind of caught me off guard. I love a good domestic thriller and typically I do pretty well at guessing the final outcome, but even with big hints along the way, I never saw these twists coming! I am officially a K.L. Slater fan and I look forward to reading her other works.

I love K.L. Slater and all things Bookouture!

What a fast paced, page turner of a ride! Starts of strong and ends stronger.
Unlikable characters that you just like because of how well Slater brings them to life.
Full of twists and turns, if you haven't read Slater, you absolutely SHOULD.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing this book in exchange for an honest review. I liked this book but I had a little bit of a hard time getting into it. I liked the chapters from Amber's point of view, because it immediately seemed she was up to no good, but they were few and far between. Most chapters were from Judi's point of view and I thought this initially was somewhat boring, as she was a grandmother that doted annoyingly on her son and grandchildren. Around 40% the whole thing seemed to get more interesting and from that point, I was able to finish the book quickly. I like this author's writing style and this book was short and to the point. It was a good story and seemed plausible, it just seemed to be missing something for me in the end. I can't put my finger on what it was. This was my third book from this author. Overall, I have enjoyed all of them and will read her next one.

Ben is bringing up his two young sons alone after his wife dies of leukaemia. It’s difficult for him working full time and looking after the children but he has the help of his mother and father in looking after the children . One day Ben meets Amber and a relationship develops between them . However Judi, Bens mother feels that Amber isn’t all she seems and isn’t being truthful with Ben. Amber seems to want Judi away from Ben and her grandchildren. Amber is determined to get what she wants !

With every new book this author writes she’s just keeps getting better. I thought the book was a nail biting roller coaster of a read . I absolutely loved it . A psychological thriller at its very best . Massive five stars from me .

4.5 stars rounded up! I must say that this book didn't grab me from the VERY beginning BUT wow, the book completely redeems itself. It picks up quickly and I found myself hooked!!! Who is Amber, what are her intentions and why? I found neither Judi, Ben's mother or Amber. the new girlfriend to be likeable characters, Judi was a bit overbearing and controlling. Amber was just evil and up to no good. That ending was great, made this a true psychological thriller for me. I have now read all three of K. L. Slater's books and think she gets better with each one! I will be looking for her next.
A huge thank you as always to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!
