A classic American children's novel. An entertaining read, with a sympathetic central character in farm girl Dorothy. It is interesting to be able to compare the original novel with the film adaptation, which is probably better known nowadays.

This was an absolutely fantastic read with brilliant characters.  I loved the different types of characters in this version.  Would love to see this version as a movie. There is still Dorothy toto the scarecrow the tinman and the lion. Along with the munchkins. But you also have the quandlings. Absolutely brilliant.  5* would give more if I could.

This is such a great classic. It was so nice to read it & fall in love with it all over again. A whole new generation will read this is see what a great story this truly is.

This is a very beautiful story. It is written very well and it can be enjoyed by anyone at any age. I wish I had read it earlier.

I had always wanted to read the Wizard of Oz books, but never had gotten around to it. I have seen the movie so, so many times and as I kid I had read some of the other L Frank Baum books that I found at the library, but never the story that the movie was based on! Since this is a kids book, it was a pretty quick read for me - that and the movie is pretty fresh in my mind so I was able to easily picture most of what was happening in the story since it was so similar. The book is a bit more detailed than the movie, which makes sense, and of course the real difference is that the shoes are SILVER! Not Ruby Red!

This is my first time reading this book. I saw it on NetGalley, so I thought why not?

Well I was so surprised while reading this to find that it is so different from the movie! I assumed they would be more similar. Almost everything that I associate with The Wizard of Oz is just in the movie, not the book. At least Dorothy still had Toto and her blue gingham dress.

My first shock was that her shoes are silver! Silver! Not ruby slippers! Silver shoes. I guess the ruby was chosen for the movie because it stands out more in film. But the ruby slippers are such an iconic image from the Wizard of Oz that I assumed that’s what they were in the book.

This story is an easy read. It moves at a good pace, with lots happening. Some parts were kind of violent for a children’s novel, but that’s just because it was written over a hundred years ago when children’s books weren’t as innocent as they are today.

Now I will have to rewatch the movie to see what other differences there are!

Great story. Love the concept and story flow. Fun and interesting characters. Highly recommend!

Not my type of book, I tried to start it but just couldn't get into anything about this book!

A timeless classic that tells the story of friendship and good vs. evil. This book has been entertaining children and adults for generations. Highly recommended! I received this as a free ARC from Sweet Cherry Publishing on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

An all time favourite of me and my boys, thanks for this nice re-issue.

I have heard a lot about this classic children book and ever since I wanted to read this book. As in the author’s note suggested, it’s solely to please children.

This is story is about friendship, helping and stand up for friends, and importance of home, how you can’t be happy and content unless you are at home. These were greatest thing taught by this book.

I liked little stories of Lion, Scarecrow, Tin woodman and Oz in this book. It was fun to read, easy to understand by children and a good classroom story. The imagination of Emerald City, china country of china people, four lands in four direction and people of those lands was amazing and well described. Oh boy! I could imagine child playing the play ‘land of Oz’ in 4 different colors and painting everything to claim their land… So, parents make sure your children don’t do that in house.

However, a little lesson of ‘courage, brain and heart can’t be given but it’s within you’, which I found it little weird by taking Scarecrow and tin woodman as character to explain it and even after those explanation their follies encouraged the humbug to carry on his falseness. Of course the book is work of imagination so you can expect such thing. But what about killing part? I don’t understand why there is so much killing in classic children books!

However, the book compelling, entertaining, and fun. Skipping those killing thing would be better to tell this story to children.

One of my Favourites when I was a child. I've always loved this book and the film. So, I downloaded this book and I sat in my garden with a coffee today reading one of my favourites again.
So, who's too old at 47? to go back into to Dorothy's world and following the yellow-brick road to the Emerald City, Meeting the Wicked Witch of the West and then with the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion.......

Still a fab book for any age.......
