Cute, very short insta-crush sort of story. It fits well with the pre-existing series, but I would definitely recommend reading the rest of the series first. It's been a while since I read the previous stories, and I had forgotten a few things - there is pretty much no backstory provided.

This is #5.1 in the Supernatural Consultant series. However I haven't read any of the other books in the series and I didn't find that the story suffered any for a lack of knowledge.

This is a short, cute read. It took me less than half an hour to read. It's sweet, as befitting a tale where the MCs are both 15.

And really there is little more that can be said without giving the story away.

3.5 stars

Aqua and Rios are bored, which is always a recipe for disaster. They decide that taking a trip to visit Nickel would be a ton of fun, so they hop on a boat and go sailing down the river. Niagara Falls separates the two kits from their destination, not that they're aware of that fact, and their fun adventure quickly turns into a desperate fight for survival.

Dragon Adventure switches families from the huge family of Mercury and Dane to that of William, the head of a neighboring Land Region and his two fosters/sons Aqua and Rios, two very active water dragons.  We had met them before when William came for Council meetings and sought Dane and Mercury's help with bringing up his two young dragons (a rare feat as young dragons have a tough time reaching maturity).

Here its that very immaturity that gets them into trouble and sends them off on an adventure to visit Nickel.  William makes for a great scary and understanding father  figure and the two maturing kits are endearing and great to get to know on a deeper level.

I loved that Mell Eight brought her readers a better understanding of why the dragons aged so slowly (staying young or small as a matter of survival didn't occur to me until she laid out a perfectly logical explanation.   There's also another cute character introduced here as well.

The story breezes along as it should for 34 pages.  Its cute, sweet and a  great side adventure to the main body of stories in this series.  Loved it.

Cover art by Aisha Akeju contains part of an element of the story. I like the dragon footprints.

Two teen dragon kits get bored and go on an adventure that brings a bit more than excitement for one of them. Fun, light, and a sweet romance in this latest installment of the urban fantasy Supernatural Consultant series.

Dragon Adventure is an in between short story that follows a few years the events of Dragon Soldier, book five, and tackles the story of a side character from the book three adventure.

Rios is a teen dragon and along with his brother, he is bored when his adopted parent tries to get him to sit in on adult stuff and take responsibilities around the home. Loved seeing him come into his own. An encounter with a non-dragon supernatural, drug-runners, the Canadian Coast Guard, and a clear insight into what he wants to do for his future career was a nicely developed piece. This is a light and quick read, but was perfect for that moment where I wanted that tone of story and didn't have a lot of time while still getting a full and complete adventure in a favorite series. Looking forward to Aqua's story now that Rios is settled.

Aqua and Rios are bored, which is always a recipe for disaster. They decide that taking a trip to visit Nickel would be a ton of fun, so they hop on a boat and go sailing down the river. Aqua and Rios are water dragons, approximately 15 years old, and are the foster sons of William Armistead. They are at the North American Territory Leader’s Conference in Canada and since their “Uncle” Willy controls all of Canada he brought them with him so that they could understand what’s going on - he’d been teaching them about his duties. Of course they’re bored out of their minds and as their Uncle Dane didn’t bring his son Nickel with him they have no one to play with.

When they’re dismissed they decide that they’re just going to go visit Nickel. They get out a map and figure it won’t take long at all to get to Nickel as it’s only a few inches of map space - by river...in a rowboat. Obviously it takes longer than expected even with their supernatural powers and they end up getting to shore so they can sleep that night. Rios is awoken by a sound and finds a Nix, a water shape-shifter, who’s trying to save the waterways from drug dealers. Rios gets attached to the Nix – who he names Nixie – very quickly and decides to help. The pair get into some trouble but Uncle Willy is there to save the day in more ways than one.

This was a very short but very cute read. It’s set in the world of the other Supernatural Consultant books, and Dane is in it, but none of Dane’s dragon kits are in it. Aqua and Rios were adorably rambunctious and I enjoyed reading about their antics. The story is told with the thought that Rios and Nix will eventually mate but that’s just kind of implied. They’re too young at the moment to go that far. :) The only reason this story got a lower rating was because of length. I just couldn’t get too into it all as it was super short.

If you’ve read and enjoyed all of the Supernatural Consultant books so far then I think you’ll enjoy this one as well.

Rating: 3 out of 5

This is a cute, quick read from the Supernatural Consultant world, where two young water dragons decide to go visit a friend because they’re bored. Aqua and Rios are both fifteen, but act a lot younger, so this is a pretty simple tale of adventure, unexpected encounters and a bit of danger, which leads to a little growing up.

It’s enjoyable and sweet and there’s a hint of romance with an intriguing new character, but the only regular series character we see is Dane, and I didn’t find either young dragon anything like as endearing as the usual kits. My constant complaint in this series is “needs more Lumie” and since we didn’t get any of him this time… well, clearly, it needs more Lumie.

So if you’ve not read anything from this series before, this stands alone well enough that you can follow along with ease. Especially if you’re looking for a cute dragon tale with a hint of coming of age. If you are a regular reader of this series, this is just a brief side trip that explores life away from our usual rambunctious crew. I liked it, but it didn’t quite charm me as much as these stories usually do.
