Well, this is embarrassing. I was supposed to review this back when it came out, but evidently, I downloaded it and immediately lost it. I also couldn't find a copy of it anywhere, so boo.

I found a copy and am so glad that I did! Tendra and Athan make an excellent couple to root for. I can see why some people thought it was a tiny bit insta-love, but I was willing to buy the explanation for it. It was fun, fast and good!

I'm not sure I love this particular version of vampire lore, but that doesn't mean that I didn't slurp this story up.

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

New to Me author Ms. Erickson pens an action packed race to safety for Tendra. This paranormal romance is a tightly focused plot with some sexy erotic moments. There are a couple of twist and turns to make the story a bit more interesting. I wish I had read this book earlier so I could immediately pick up the following book to this duology.

What I appreciated about this book, is that Tendra may not have known about the supernatural world or her background, but she was not completely helpless. Tendra's mother did her best to prepare her to defend and fend for herself. This immediately captures my attention because instead of being a whiny victim, Tendra is an empowered survivor who will fight for her choices. Tendra is an admirable character who literally rolls with the punches. She does not dither and play the damsel in distress. She figures out what needs to be done and does it. When she makes a mistake, she owns it. I like her a lot.

Athan is character who at first glance seems a bit stalkerish and cold. This is due to his upbringing and his lack of familiarity with humans. In fact, his cluelessness about pop culture reference makes this sometimes serious book lighter and funny. Ms. Erickson's comedic timing is perfect. I love it. The sexual chemistry between Tendra and Athan is strong and enjoyable to watch as it grows in heat. Whilst the characters are nicely fleshed out, the world building seems to be a bit thin and scarce. A reader quickly picks up the different vampire factions but there seems to be other supernaturals hinted yet never materialized.

This book flies by so quickly that the ending comes rushing to a conclusion all too soon. Whilst this book could be a one and only, it does leave room to have a follow up story with Athan's brother as the main character. I am eager to see what happens to him. This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who like strong female leads and... the movie Underworld with Kate Beckinsdale.

Surprisingly a really good paranormal story! World-building wasn't extensive, but the actual plot was full of twists that although may have been cliche at times, kept readers intrigued. Tendra was incredible, and her decisions were all justified and logical. My kind of girl. Athan kept away his attraction to Tendra but in the end succumbed to it, creating for some sexy times and smoking chemistry. They were both very likable and strong in different ways. Erickson does a really good job in keeping the vampire reveal as very non-cheesy. May have graphic sexual and violent scenes, though.

Although this book seemed up my alley, I found it fell short of what I was hoping it could be. I enjoyed some elements like atmosphere and the characters but overall was just not a great match for me. I would consider recommending it to others.

Megan Erickson is an auto-buy author for me because the range that she has in writing such complex characters in an array of genres is just outstanding and something I can get into. And Blood Guard takes it from Twilight and puts her own signature sexy and non-cliche twist in this sexy romance. Expect action, danger, sexual tension, carnal pleasure, family dynamics, feels, treason, vampire clans, and forbidden love.

I haven't read a good vampire book in a long time. I really really liked this one. Thanks Netgalley for the Arc

This one fell short. The theory was great, but something about the characters felt closed off and I just couldn't connect.

Ohhhh a new author with talent! I wasn't expecting Blood Guard by Megan Erickson to be amazing, but, it was and I have nothing bad to say, at all. Great plot, great characters, great dialogue, great book! I recommend.

I thought I would never read a vampire romance book again. Boy was I wrong!! Coming from Megan Erickson I’ll read anything!!!

In Blood Guard Tendra is thrown into this hard to believe reality where vampire exist and a particular clan of vampires need her to keep the clan going, they call it lifeblood and maybe making a things a little easier to believe is Athat, her blood guard, the vampire who has to bring her to his brother the future king of the clan to become is bride and lifeblood.

What I really liked was that Tendra was like okay I get that there are vampires, I get that you need me and my blood but I don’t understand is why I have to become a wife lol, I loved that she was so into the story and everything that was happening to her, she trusted Athan was going to protect her and be there for her. On the other side we have Athan who was just *dreamy eyes* amazing *sigh*, his power came out of the page, you could feel it, how powerful and strong he was and you could also feel the current of electricity between Tendra and Athan.

The book was action packed, one adventure after another, plot twist after plot twist and lots of new intriguing characters that I look forward to getting to know better.

Told in dual POv. I loved the heroine! It was very refreshing. Athan was a wonderfully protective hero who struggled between his duty and Tendra. I loved watching them learn about each other and struggle with the developing bond. Sacrifices were made by both as they slowly fell in love and realized exactly what finding your home made ant. secondary characters were great. One clicked here!

4.5 stars
Well, it has been awhile since I've read this book, but I can still remember it. I can still the love and chemistry growing in each paragraph between Athan and Tendra.
This is one of the few books that still touches the same old vampire story but that feels different.
I loved it and I can't wait to read more about it.
I would love his brother to find his one and only...

Super recommended

It was a nice try for Erickson but it just didn't do it for me. I tried really hard to like this book but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe it was the characters, maybe it was the storyline or just a little of both. Either way I couldn't finish this book.

I always hear how much everyone is addicting to vampire shows and books so I really wanted to read one that had a bit of romance in it.

I liked the characters a lot, and I really liked the fantasy feeling throughout the whole book. I thought Blood Guard was pretty intense and defiantly emotion packed but I just couldn't get into the romance aspect of it. I really don't know why because the writing was so good but it just didn't do it for me.

I loved the writing though and I defiantly want to read more of Megan Erickson's books to see if there's more I like better!

So, I’m already a huge fan of Megan Erickson and am also a huge fan of vampires so you can imagine how excited I was for this book. And, oh, how I loved it!

Tendra is a spitfire of a gal who has been training to be something way more than a bartender in a small town. Only thing is she had no idea that’s what she was doing. After losing her mother, things start to get interesting for our spunky drink slinger and she is suddenly thrown into a world most don’t know exists. She takes it all in stride and I loved her for that. She questions everything and is willing to take it all in stride but also remains cautious and on guard. She’s a great character and is totally a gal I would want to hang out with.

Athan is an equally interesting character, taking his time with Tendra and explaining this new life she is destined for all while keeping her safe and out of harms way. He tries to see things from her point of view and realizes he must dig deep and find his humanity in order to do so and it was so wonderful to read a paranormal character with that layer of kindness. But, make no mistake, kind or not he’s still all alpha….yum!

Together their chemistry is deliciously slow to build and it was so fun to read. They are smoking hot together! Add to that an interesting plot with plenty of action and danger and this book is a total win for me.

I loved this new vampire world and I can’t wait to read more of the series as it evolves! Thank you, Ms. Erickson, for a phenomenal read!

I enjoyed Blood Guard. The world building was done very well, not overly wordy or descriptive but the vision was clearly seen through the authors words. These two were just made for each other and had a hard time fighting their attraction...until they didn't. I thought was an excellent version of the vampire world and enjoyed the uniqueness of it all. Great job to the author and I look forward to more for sure :)
