This was a fun book. I loved the illustrations, especially of the dragon. It would be a fun read-a-loud for parents, who could point out the various details in the pictures.

Beautiful illustrations and a darling story of a knight's determination to be a dragon fighter. I love that he gets what he wants but not in the way he had imagined. So clever and cute.

It’s all there in the title: kid wants to be famous by killing a dragon, goes off to fight one, but things don’t work according to plan.
The knight is barely as tall as a dragon tusk. And he’s woefully unprepared, and would be even if the dragon was much smaller. Sword too small, no shield, no armor. Every time the dragon tells him he’s lacking something, he goes back to the village to get it, but there’s always something else.
“Fighting a dragon was not as much fun as he thought.” Even though he hadn’t fought him yet. Finally they fight, albeit on a smaller field of honor.
Boy, those are some big rampant curls! Can’t fit a knight’s helmet over all that. . . oh, he doesn’t have one. Never mind.
Though it feels like a good idea, the story isn’t all that entertaining, in fact gets repetitive (and it’s only 18 pages long!). The writing is tiny even when there’s plenty of room. The artwork is the best part, bright and cheery even on the red dragon.

I am going to need a copy of this book for my nephews. All a Knight ever wants to do is defeat a dragon. But first the dragon tells him, his sword is too small. Then he has no shield. And is also kind of small. But Nick keeps trying, until at last he has had enough. After a conversation with the dragon, Nick makes a new friend, and finally finds a fun way to defeat a dragon. Loved it, loved the illustrations, loved the book!!

This book took a little bit to hook me, but in the end I loved the story and couldn't wait to share it with my students. Nick is a great story to share during a medieval study or on a unit talking about taking a different perspective or judging a book by it's cover. It was also an excellent story about not giving up on a goal or accomplishing your goals by seeing them from a new perspective.

This book is beautifully illustrated and quite unique. I loved the themes of the tiny knight seeking glory, who didn't give up easily. I also loved the theme of the sad and lonely dragon. The author found a fun way to tie the two together. I think this book would be a great addition to an elementary classroom or to read at home with children.

This was a very cute story about a little knight named Nick and his desire to fight the dragon, Breakhorn, at the top of the summit; one that the entire village fears. But is the dragon really all that bad?

The cover drew me in instantly, with a sword so large I imagine him barely being able to lift it and a shield twice the size of our little knight, and illustrations that are endearing and beautifully done.

Through out the story Nick shows perseverance and determination and Breakhorn may just demonstrate that not all is what it appears. Nick the Knight and the Dragon may not need to be enemies after all.

The pace and rhythm are perfect to keep little minds engaged and had my daughter laughing through out. This story is perfect for children of all ages.

I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The illustrations take the cake on this book. It's filled with absolutely gorgeous vibrant colors and textures. I particularly liked the dragon's swirly red skin. I love illustrations that have a lot of detail, in which the images have plenty of things to inspect and wonder about. As a kid I loved to look at every detail in my picture books, my kids (6 and 3) do the same thing. They loved looking at the extra details in Nick the Knight, especially the drawings on Nick's walls. My curly-haired blondie loved that Nick looks just like him!

The narrative is very simple and something that parents and children can both enjoy. The story revolves around problem solving and discovering that the problem may not be what is expected and requires a very different solution.

The only problem I had was that the text was difficult to read, but this may be because it is a pre-sale copy that isn't completely finished yet.

This is a cute picture book about a young knight who wants to do a big thing. Nick the Knight decides it is time to fight a dragon. He heads off to find Breakhorn, the dragon that had never been defeated. He heads off to the mountain and finds Breakhorn, but he does not want to fight. He has all sorts of reasons, your sword is too short, you have no sheild, you are too small etc. Nick problem solves and keeps going back to the mountain to fight. Breakhorn finally tells him that he does not want to fight, he wants a friend to play games with. Nick heads off and returns with a chess game. They play several games and Nick finally defeats the dragon, he beats him three times at chess. The illustrations are well drawn and colourful. The messages in the book about facing up to big challenges, problem solving and accepting others as well as making new friends in unexpected places make this a good book to use with young children starting a new chapter in their lives such as going to school, joining a new activity etc. The one problem I had with the book was there were some pages where the text was hard to read due to the dark backgrounds and the smaller text. It changes sizes throughout the story and even on the same pages.

I love children's books for two things, the sweet, funny stories and the artwork that makes up each story's illustration. This book touches on both of those loves.

Nick is a young boy who has dreamed and imagined himself into a dragon slayer, with this vision he makes his way to the top of the mountain to fight the fearsome Breakhorn the Dragon. But what happens when Breakhorn doesn't feel like fighting?

Each day Nick returns prepared for battle and each day Breakhorn points out why he cannot fight Nick. His sword is too small, he has no shield... this goes on and on until a friendship is formed between the young knight and dragon.

The artwork is beautiful! The colors are bright and the scenes are set perfectly.

This was a wonderful story book!

The moment of true has come and Nick the Knight should finally face the dragon! Not any dragon, but the undefeated Breakhorn, living up in the mountains. The struggle is real and the disappointment even greater as the dragon seems to refuse to fight with him. Even after Nick got himself a big sword and a powerful armor the dragon still declines his offer. But the power of mind can be stronger than the sword and therefore and upon the final return, they play chess and Nick defeated him not only once, but 3 times!
More than the illustrations, I love the message of this book, about finding the strength to fight with the right weapons and your main strengths.
