A cute, fluffy, compulsively readable story. The atmosphere was established so effectively and I found the characters to be so sweet.

A charming novel for fans of it-takes-a-village stories featuring multiple characters and story lines. You will root for these women, all of whom are dealing with an issue which otherwise could paralyze them. It's a good read. And there is romance.!

A lovely feelgood read set in a charming Northern (a change from the usual Cornish setting!) seaside town. It's certainly a place I'd want to visit! Mae runs a small bed and breakfast, and two guests arrive unexpectedly, resulting in a friendship between the three women. Don't want to give spoilers so will not say more, but it is a heartwarming story of love and friendship.
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.

I would like to say a massive thank you to HQ Digital and Netgally for providing me with an eBook of The Bed & Breakfast by the sea by Jennifer Joyce to read and to give an honest review!

Wow!!!! What a gorgeous front cover this is… it encapsulated a very summary scene, with the yellow flowers creeping on the sides to the light blue sky which meets the darker blue of the wavy sea. There are people sitting at tables with umbrellas for shade, a bike leans up against the harbour railings. I love the building that is decorated with pink flower wind boxes which adds to the summery feel of this very well designed cover, it makes me think and feel all summery before I even begun to read!!!!!!
The Little Bed & Breakfast by the Sea is based in the beautiful sea-side town of Clifton- on- sea. Where the reader meet Mae; the owner of the B&B, a single mother of four-year old Hannah. Mae inherits her home from her grandmother for her and Hannah to live in. With more bedroom’s than see need’s she open’s up as a B&B to help subsidise her wages from the local pub she works in. Mae is so busy she has little time of anything else and relies on her mother to help with the childcare when she is at work during the day. I could tell straight away that Mae is a strong and independent lady who has the most beautiful caring nature. She even has herself an admirer; a handsome local vet who keep’s asking her out only for Mae to knock him back. Even her boss, good friends and God parents to Hannah thinks she should go on a date with him. But how can she with so much going on? Will the handsome Vet give up on Mae? Or will Mae take the leap and accept his offer of a date? Is Mae really happy with her life as it is?
Willow and her husband Ethan; have just brought their first home; which they are doing up while living there. However Ethan works away in the week leaving Willow to run her Up-cycling business and keeping an eye on the builders. Then she get’s the mother of all shocks when her builder informs her the house need some serious work doing to it; meaning she and Ethan have to temporarily move of while the work’s being carried out. In a bid to find somewhere to stay in the height of summer in a seaside town, but finds no where, until Mae finds her saying she’s had a cancellation a has a room for her. Willow and Ethan’s relationship is strained by the expense their home is costing and they seem to be having a rough patch. But can they work through it? Will the house drain all there funds and break them?
Melody, is on a mission in traveling the Northern seaside towns to capture photo’s that show the best of the British seaside towns; for an exhibition she promised someone she’d do. There’s a great sadness around Melody, but why? Traveling to Clifton- on-sea, she is shocked by fellow traveller; who is not only annoying but rude to boot. She has booked into staying in Mae’s B&B and she is delighted with the accommodation, considering what she has stayed in on her travels. During her exploration of the town she keep’s bumping into the annoying traveller; Hugo. As they start to spend time together when he becomes more cheeky; which made me giggle at times! And I think Melody start’s to really enjoy his company. What is the sadness Melody carry’s around with her? Have Hugo and her got anything in common? Will she get that photo she’s looking for?
There are many ups and down’s which all the lady’s have to face throughout the story; which they have to over come and a few embarrassing moments that really kept me entertained. I also think all ok them needed to have found a friendship with each other; which is something I think they all needed … because lets face it in really life we all need girlfriends around us through thick and think!!!!!!! I really did enjoy all the characters in The Little Bed & Breakfast by the sea, simply because they were all seemed so real when I read!!!!!! and the way the all develop as people! I particularly ADORED Mae’s daughter Hannah, she is the cutest and made me chuckle quite a bit through out!!!!!! I really think Jennifer Joyce has captured this perfectly!
The Little Bed & Breakfast by the sea by Jennifer Joyce is the perfect summer read. It’s light-hearted story and providing you with a few giggles along the way. I adore you writing Jennifer and really can’t wait to explore more of you wonderful stories. I can’t recommend this book enough and defiantly on I want to re-read!!!!!

Mae is fulfilling her dream of running a bed and breakfast in the house her grandparents left her in an English seaside town. Willow is a local shop owner who is trying to build the house of her dreams with her husband, but fate seems to be against them. Melody is just an amateur photographer passing through trying to get a prize winning shot. This story brings these women together under one roof and their lives become forever entwined. The story will take you through each of their journeys and the roadblocks they face to happiness and how they overcome them.

This is a fluffy, predictable romance novel. These are just the kind I like when I want to read for pure enjoyment. Of course it’s unrealistic! You don’t just have gorgeous men beating down your door even after you’ve told them no multiple times. You just don’t always have happy endings. That being said, it is precisely why I enjoy these. Sometimes it is fun to just get away from real life for a few hours and throw yourself into a feel good story. The author did such a good job of painting a picture of the local scene and you could picture everything perfectly. If you’re looking for something fun, I recommend this one. Three out of five stars.

I haven't read Jennifer Joyce before but this was a lovely summery girlie book. I enjoyed reading about Mae, Willow and Melody, each with their own troubles and pasts and enjoyed that each chapter was 'read' from a different women but their stories intertwining. I was quite sure that Ethan would leave Willow with the way it was sounding but so pleased that she was pregnant in the end and he obviously wasn't leaving her! (I guessed she was pregnant from the morning sickness!). I'm glad Mae finally gave into Alfie and Melody was happy with Hugo. I wasn't expecting the story Melody unveilled about Ollie but glad she found happiness in the end. The little seaside town sounded lovely too! A good joyful read. Thank you for letting me read and review this book, I'd look out for Jennifer's next one.

4.5 Stars

I loved The Little Bed and Breakfast by the Sea, both the book and the building. For it really is a tiny B&B as it only has 2 rooms available for customers, with Mae and her 4 year old daughter Hannah living in the rest of the house.

The B&B is set in a gorgeous little Northern coastal town Clifton-on-Sea, which we get to see through the eyes of Melody who is taking photos of towns such as these. It takes a while to fully understand why it is she is a photographer who is a bit unsure of herself and doesn't like showing people her pictures.

Willow lives in the town and comes to stay in the B&B when renovations of her dream home hit a huge snag. I absolutely loved Willow's job as an upcycler and the amount of imagination shown in some of her projects was brilliant.

There were a few characters that I loved even more than the rest, and believe it or not it wasn't those three ladies although they are the main characters and all really likeable. I loved Hannah and her insistence that the random cat keeps showing up at their house is not only theirs but that its favourite food is Frosties. Hannah is 4 years old, and utterly adorable with it.

My other favourite has to be the local ice-cream van man, Hugo and his dog called Scoop! Hugo is a bit of a cheeky chappy, has a bit of an ego and always seems up for a laugh. He befriends Melody and I giggled at most scenes involving him.

The book is split so that each chapter has a different character to focus on, be it Mae, Willow or Melody. The writing was easy to follow and pleasurable to read, as was the whole story. I enjoyed finding out about the characters pasts, and seeing how their thoughts changed over the time they were all together in the bed and breakfast.

This is yet another great story from Jennifer Joyce, and author who never fails to write entertaining books.

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

A really warm beautiful summer read of how one summer can change everything. I adored the characters in the book they are all completely different and unique. The Bed & Breakfast sounds like a cosy warm place and I just want to go and stay there.

What better way to while away a few days in Clifton on Sea, a seaside town on the northwest coast of Britain. Where there is everything you want from such a place.

A pier, with the candy floss stands, and the arcade machines where you spend hours watching two pence pieces move in a machine. where getting a cuddly toy out the machine is more than luck than judgement

A fish and chip shop, where you can take the delicious food next door to the pub and enjoy a pint as you devour the salty chips.

The ice cream van which specialises in different flavours and a unique host.

The little shops where you can get something unique to remind you of your visit.

A beach, cliffs, coves and breathtaking views of the sea and the landscape.

Of course what better place to stay than at the Bed and Breakfast run by Mae. Helping to make ends meets, she has opened up two of her rooms to guests. She is pretty much booked out until the autumn until she suddenly has two cancellations.

It just so happens, that Melody is looking for some where to stay as she completes a photographic project which is very personal to her, otherwise she is just going to move on.

Willow has nowhere to stay, her house she is renovating is no longer safe for her to stay in and her husband is away and not offering much support.

Both Melody and Willow find themselves staying with Mae and a friendship forms between these women.

Mae suddenly realises that being single is perhaps not the answer for the rest of her life and she perhaps should listen to all the advice that is being given to her.

Willow is struggling to find contentment in what she has got and stop dreaming about what could be. She feels alone with no support.

Melody is running away from her past and when she befriends a local innocently, she can see that perhaps life does go on and there is a future.

As the book shifts between the three main female characters you begin to care about them, you want only the best for them and of course this is a reflection on the writing. I felt I was privileged to be allowed a snapshot into their lives.

An engaging summer read and to be honest would be an engaging read whatever the season or the weather!

A light read following three women as they get second chances in life and love.

I really enjoyed reading from the perspective of all the women. I enjoyed the surprises along the way and felt really happy with the ending.

A really lovely book.

I've love the last couple of novels from Jennifer Joyce so was more than happy to oblige when she recently contacted me about her latest book with HQ - The Little Bed & Breakfast by the Sea.

Firstly - just how gorgeous and summery does that cover look? If I was looking for a beach read then this is the type of cover I would be picking up and popping into my suitcase!

The Little Bed & Breakfast by the Sea is an easy going, light read with lots of humour and cheeky moments that kept me glued, and follows the lives of three women over a summer in Clifton-on-Sea.

The first of the ladies is Mae and the owner of the Seafront B&B - a house she has renovated left to her by her late grandmother. Its just Mae and her young daughter, Hannah, since both Mae's father left when she was small and Hannah's did a runner before she even entered the world.
Mae as a character was easy to like, very down to earth and bubbly but lonely at being single - not that she would let anyone know that, especially Alfie the village vet who ask's her for a date pretty much every time he sees her.
Can I just say here though - Hannah's character was brilliant, having a nieces at similar ages, the language and attitude was spot on!

The second lady from the trio is Willow, a married woman who runs the local up-cycling shop.
Her and Ethan her husband are having a few problems - one being their lack of family status and two being their lack of home. They are currently renovating their dream house but it's not going swimmingly!

When the builders announce the house isn't safe for Willow to stay in she has to hunt for temporary accommodation whilst Ethan is working away. Lucky, cancellations at the B&B means that Willow becomes Mae's first guest for the Summer.
Willow's character again was likeable and relatable and
I loved the descriptions the author went to with regards to her work.

Making up Mae's other guest and the third character to the story is Melody, a younger lady to the other two who is travelling along seasides attempting to capture the perfect image to enter a photography competition.

Instantly, Melody hits it off with Hugo and his dog, Scoop, and they spend a lot of time together over the coming days.
I think Hugo and his ego was one of my favourite characters- some can have a big ego that gets on your nerves, but Jennifer had the right balance with his humour that just made him a brilliant addition to the book.
Throughout, though, there is a lot of mention to Ollie from Melody but it isn't until the latter part of the book who we get the full details here.

The three girls bond wonderful and the story flows nicely, although I have recently read a book that I felt had similar sub plots to this one and another that was also set in a B&B
(which I think is this year's buzz setting!) it didn't take away that Jennifer's writing is improving book on book and I enjoyed reading a light hearted, romantic comedy.

The Little Bed & Breakfast by the Sea is the idea sun lounger novel!

Ready for surprises, this romance set by the sea in a delightful BnB is full of them. A delight.

I enjoyed the book with it's easy pace and lighthearted story lines. The ladies were all likeable and interesting and I enjoyed finding out their past and seeing their stories unfold. I particularly enjoyed the imagery of the b&b and if the shop. I could really see them in my mind and feel their cosy warm interiors. I very much enjoyed the book and will be back for more!

Mae has turned her Grandparents old house into a B & B and is trying to make a living for herself and her young daughter so when guests cancel at the last minute right in the middle of the holiday season she is worried......that is a lot of money to lose and where can she get more guests at such short notice.

Willow is doing up her lovely beachfront house with her husband Ethan,. but things are not going to plan - he is the love of her life but is he drifting away from her and the house is taking all of their money so when she gets that devastating news that there is a problem with the foundations and she is going to have to move out she is really worried everywhere is booked up at this time of the year!

Melody has not really thought about accommodation, she is drifting around seaside towns trying to complete her photography portfolio when she meets the really annoying icecream man Hugo who just seems to keep popping up everywhere......maybe she should stay in this town for a bit if she can find somewhere to stay!

A lovely story about the 3 women who all have problems in their lives but become firm friends and help each other out - great characters and a lovely warm book perfect for the beach

What a truly delightful read this was. I always love reading a book with a beachside setting as it always makes me want to visit the beach or wished that I lived nearby.

It was an easy light hearted read with wonderfully written characters all of whom I loved getting to know.

I'm definitely looking forward to reading more by this author.

A charming story of new beginnings, family, friendship, love and sadness. It is told from the point of view of the 3 lead characters. I liked each of the three women - each with a very different story to tell.

The story was well written with warm characterisation set in a picturesque seaside setting. The location of the story is beautifully described - I could almost smell the sea air and hear the seagulls. It has a cosy storyline which flows along perfectly. Perfect for a summer day in the garden or on the sofa with some chocolate. A pleasure to read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
