I was looking forward to reading Jenny Sparrow Knows the Future and whilst this book didn't blow me away I did find it a fun read.

At the age of 13, Jenny and her friend Isla make a list of what they want to achieve and at which age. She wants to marry her boyfriend but when he proposes a break instead of marriage she ends up in Vegas with her best friend. Waking up one day in a strangers bed, she finds out she's married - but to the wrong man.

This book is a quick and easy read and is fairly entertaining. I would give it three stars.

“Jenny Sparrow Knows the Future” is my first book by Melissa Pimentel, however this is this kind of book that you know, from the very beginning, deep inside, that you want to read. Firstly, this title is just brilliant, it’s so eye – catching and promising tons of adventures. Secondly, the synopsis – after reading the synopsis (when I’ve eventually stopped looking at the gorgeous cover and gushing over the brilliant title and got to read the synopsis) I was dead sure this book is going to be a cracker – I love people making plans, maybe because I am the one who can’t stick to a plan, as well as to to – do lists.

So, was it a cracker?

Hell, it was!

Jenny Sparrow wants to live her life according to a list that she created when she was 13 years old. You may not believe it, but she still has the list – the original one! – and it’s laminated. So, according to her list it’s time to get married now, and it looks really good but then Jenny’s boyfriend Chrstopher, instead of popping the question kneeled down only to do his laces. So Jenny, instead of planning a wedding, goes to Las Vegas with her best friend. As we all already know, going to Las Vegas isn’t often the best idea, because what happens in Las Vegas… you know the idea. Anything can happen there – you can lost all your money, or maybe incidentally get married…? To a total stranger…?

This whole story was actually one huge self – discovery lesson for our Jenny, and also for us. What happens when things don’t go according to what we plan or what we want? The author shows us that it’s ok, that life goes on! However, for our Jenny it was a shock to come out of her comfort zones, to deal with all the sudden changes, with all the surprises and with Jackson. I loved the way she dealt with those things – it was written in incredibly realistic way and when Jenny was scared, then she was scared, she didn’t try to hide it, and when she was unsure she also told it as it was. She was a very likeable character, our Jenny, sometimes too whingey, sometimes too chicken – hearted, sometimes too of a pushover, but oh my god, guys, nobody’s perfect, right, and she just felt so true and honest, and I just kept everything crossed for her.

This story is brilliantly observed and it is sharp about our reality. It shows the daily grind and battles but it also balances it with some grand gestures, and I really enjoyed this mix – it made impossible believable. The writing style was so light and modern, and the author truly knows her way with the words.
So altogether, “Jenny Sparrow Knows the Future” was a light – hearted, cheeky read with a lovely heroine and some troubles in paradise, yet it also dealt with some more serious issues but still, in a very light way. Showing it doesn’t matter if you stick to your plan or not, and that you can’t force love – it’s going to find you in the most unexpected moment, come and hit you hard. Honestly, I have maybe expected there to be more humour, and there were moments that the story dragged on a little bit, but still it was a great read to relax with and just have fun. I am already looking toward more from Melissa Pimentel and in the meantime – guys, go and grab “Jenny Sparrows” – it’s great read!

I really enjoyed this book. Jenny was a fun character to follow, someone who had her mind set on something only for it to fall apart, her plans going awry. It proved that not everything goes to plan and sometimes you just have to let things simply happen when they happen. No one can schedule life.

It also showed that where some people can be together for years and stay in love there are others that can just as easily fall out of it. I'm glad it did show and implement those aspects of a relationship.

There were moments when I would find myself relating to Jenny, and I loved when I knew instantly what or who she was referring to in the narrative. (ie A character from a play I studied in English Literature or a song/phrase from a character in a cartoon film watched as a child). There would also be times I'd just burst out laughing.

I'm so glad Jenny was a character I never got annoyed or frustrated at. I was genuinely connected to her and her journey and understanding of things until she got to the place she wanted to go.

I loved Jackson, Isla, and Ben just as easily. I'd be so happy if there was a sequel to this book just so I could see more of Jenny and where her life goes, same with the other characters too.

When Jenny was 13 years old, she made a list of how her life was going to be, including that she would be married by the time she was 31. So on her 31st birthday, she is looking forward to her boyfriend finally proposing. Except that he doesn’t. Heartbroken, Jenny flies to Las Vegas with her best friend, Isla, and spends the night getting drunk. Next morning she wakes up in someone else’s bed, but she doesn’t remember the night before so she runs away, back to London where her boyfriend promptly proposes. She accepts but her happiness doesn’t last long when Jackson turns up at her office. Because it is not true that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, and it seems that Jenny married Jackson during her wild night there. Jackson promises to give her a divorce if in exchange she spends a week with him exploring London.

The characters are likable and relatable and I especially liked Jenny’s best friend, Isla, who is blunt and knows how to have fun. Because of her childhood problems, Jenny follows her list and is afraid to do anything out of the ordinary until she meets Jackson, who teaches her that it is good to live your life without a plan. The novel also includes a nice tour of London as Jenny and Jackson explore the city together. It’s a great romantic comedy, full of funny scenes and witty dialogues.

This is a very gentle story which shows how Jenny-with-a-plan has somehow got herself tangled into a bit of a mess after a wild night in Vegas. It was absorbing and kept my interest, particularly the episodes with Jackson and the transatlantic nature of the saga!

An enjoyable beach read -- definitely helps you to reflect that life doesn't always work out in the ways you'd predict. 4* for a beach read - not taxing at all!!

I have read a lot of 'perfect for summer' reads recently, and this one is different. I loved everything about it - the settings, the characters, the witty dialogue, the underlying truths - oh how I wish I had read this, or something similar, when I was younger!

Jenny Sparrow has her life all mapped out - literally. She wrote her list aged thirteen and now, aged 30, she is still using it as her life plan. However, as we all know, plans are made to be broken ...

I really loved this novel. It has just the right mix of sureness and uncertainty, work and fun, sadness and happiness. A gorgeous warm, funny, uplifting, spirit-raising read - and if you're only going to manage to fit in one summer read make it this one! I closed my kindle with a little sigh of happiness at a book well read.

I absolutely loved diving into Jenny's world and her 'list'.. she's just one of the most endearing main leads in recent chick-lit novels.
I was more biased towards Christopher as he is more 'My' kinda guy :) but Jackson is cool too... just a little too cool for my liking.

A nice holiday read. Standard fare of girl in comfortable life not realising that she is actually settling for a pleasant comfortable existance rather than really living because she is holding onto her life-plan that she made at the age of thirteen. A weekend in Vegas changes all of that.

I can honestly say that I truly loved this book. I devoured in just a few days (would have been sooner, but had other demands).
As teens Jenny and Isla make out an almost bucket list of where and when they want to be at various stages of their lives.
Jenny unlike Isla lives by the list (so much so that she keeps a laminated copy in her bag). So, this is the year she expects to be engaged to be married.
However when her partner Christopher fails to purpose, Jenny escapes to Los Vegas to spend a couple of days with her best friend Isla.
The weekend starts with Jenny getting sun stroke, but she does manage to go out for a fun evening on the tiles. Everything seems fine until the following morning she wakes un in a strange hotel room, she quickly makes a run for it.
Upon her return to London, she finds Christopher waiting for her in arrivals, he goes down on one knee and makes her dream come true by popping the question. She decides that what happened on In Los Vegas will stay there and moves on with her life. Her plans are going well. However, that is until she is summoned to reception to be told that her ‘husband’ has come to visit. She is chuffed that Christopher is already using that title.
However, the man she see’s waiting is not her fiancée, but a man she recognises from a Casino in Los Vegas! Jackson foes on to inform her that they are married, Jenny has no memories of their nuptials.
Jenny will now need to get a divorce before she can marry the love of her life. Jackson agrees to a divorce, but only on the condition that Jenny will spend time with him each day for the rest of the week.
Jenny reluctantly agrees.
Maybe it is true, you never really know what the future holds. Fate is funny like that.
This book will keep the reader enthralled and a perfect holiday read.

Gentle romcom about Jenny who is in a long term relationship with Christopher. American Jenny and the typically English Christopher have been living together for three years after Jenny has moved to London so that they can be together. Jenny is now keen to get married but Christopher is not so sure he is ready for the commitment.
Jenny is incredibly organised and even has a list of how her life should progress and what should happen when, even down to the age when she should get married: she carries this laminated document around in her handbag and constantly refers to it. Compiled when she was a teenager with her best friend Isla, she religiously follows it even now as an adult in her thirties, clinging to it as it has given her purpose and continuity throughout her difficult teenage years.
When Christopher seems uninterested in marriage Jenny jets off to Vegas to meet Isla and in a drunken state meets handsome Texan Jackson.
On her return to London Jenny picks up her life and Christopher proposes but things do not work out as planned when Jackson reappears in her life.
However much you organise your life things do not always work out as expected.and often it is better to go with the flow rather than sticking to a grand plan. This is one of the main themes of the novel.
A quirky comedy narrated by Jenny in the first person, this is an ideal book to read.on the beach. I dipped in and out of it as I slipped in and out of the pool and I would recommend it to readers who want a light Summer read. To get straight to the point, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I do love a good chick lit, but find that all too often they can be a tad on the unrealistic and fantastical side, but this one had just enough realism to balance the romance and grand gestures within the storyline. These grand romantic gestures that happen in chick lit are things that very unlikely happen in real life, but within Pimentel's novel there is enough mention of the daily grind and usual relationships trials and tribulations, that it made the grand gestures more believable.

The text flowed well, and I really enjoyed Pimentel's writing style. There was just enough detail without going overboard, and the book was just the right length. Sometimes I can get near the end of the book and wish the happy ending would just come, but this book had just enough juicy plot running throughout, so I didn't get bored at any point.

Pimentel is an author I shall be looking out for, as I'd love to see what else she is capable of. Definitely recommend giving her a go if you like chick lit or something to read on holiday.
