Moving, compelling and difficult to put down, fans of Katie Flynn and Ellie Dean are going to love Fiona Ford’s engaging and enjoyable debut saga, The Spark Girl.

The bottom falls out of Kitty William’s world when a knock on the door brings her the news she has been dreading about her fiance, Joe. Devastated, grief-stricken and dejected, a broken-hearted Kitty cannot believe that she will never see her beloved Joe ever again. Determined to do her bit for the war effort and to ensure that his death was not in vain, a resilient Kitty realises that she cannot spend the rest of the war sitting in a corner weeping over Joe, so she plucks up all of her courage and resilience and signs up for the Women’s Army. Kitty’s new career is anything but easy, but hard work is just what she needs to heal from her devastating loss. However, little does Kitty know that the road ahead is paved with further heartbreak, devastating challenges and dangerous obstacles that could put her life in jeopardy…

Kitty soon makes new friends with fellow recruits Mary, Di and Peggy. As the camaraderie and back-breaking work begin to ease Kitty out of the dark abyss which she had found herself plunged in, she begins to see some light at the end of the tunnel. However, as she witnesses her home town of Coventry being decimated by bombs, Kitty finds herself having to muster up all of her strength and tenacity to keep going. With her family needing her help, her heart still aching after her catastrophic loss and her allies turning against her, will Kitty be strong enough to withstand all the obstacles standing in her way and lead her country to victory? Or will it be too much for her?
