This is a charming and insightful read. I’m normally not a big fan of epistolary novels. However Winn Collier’s writing had me reading the whole book in one day, and tearing up in the first chapter.

Love Big, Be Well is written as a series of letters from a Pastor called Jonas, to a group of people in his congregation. Jonas’ musings are stripped of artificiality, and provide a genuine insight into of the role of a pastor in a small church. The letters are wide ranging, and the book doesn’t seem to follow any particular plot arch or develop a tension. However, in saying this, Winn somehow manages to produce a page-turner which draws the reader in to caring about the characters in this church. He quietly pulls apart a range topics affecting those attending small town churches today, and looks at those issues in an honest yet challenging way.

I would recommend this book for anyone who belongs to a small church, be they pastors or the congregation. You will be ever so gently challenged to Love Bigger.

What is so funny was the description of this book. I was in ministry for many years and stepped away and ended up with a very dead-end job. I wasn't sure I wanted to go back into ministry but really ministry found me and that is why I got this book and it has not be disappointing. This book is as real as it gets for me. I know exactly what Jonas is saying and I do so much appreciate the honesty. This book was timely for me and so I am very thankful for the early read and I will definitely pick the book up when it comes out.
