"The sudden tightening of his jaw. The stiffening of his nondescript clothing. The calming, strengthening intake of breath. All the signs of a man about to act."

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This is a high-octane thriller that grabs hold quickly and doesn't let go. A fast, suspenseful read with a satisfying conclusion. Don't be put off by the lame title.

I'm very sure the British are not going to like this book. It seems like a comparison of Britain and the US and America was shown as more superior. According to the book, the intelligence agency was superb and the US president was much better than the British Prime Minister.

Also, there were so many people involved and so many names were mentioned. They all got mixed up in my head.

It's okay but it was quite boring.

This novel is indicated as being Tony Kent's first book but also lists the real life experiences the author has to his credit. The plot, descriptions, portraits of the main characters and the excellent pacing certainly are more indicative of the skill of a long time successful author rather than his first book. Fortunately the same frontispiece does suggest Mr. Kent's plans for more novels using some of the characters as in "Killer Intent"
Joe Dempsey a key military Intelligence officer and a former soldier serving in the S.A.S. England's most lethal military organization is witness to an attempted assassination attempt upon the U.S. president than currently in London. The president is among several dignitaries speaking to the public. The assassination attempt appears botched when one of the British leaders is killed instead. But looking at the overall picture Dempsey comes to the conclusion that what has been seen in the shooting is not the real story and begins to delve into the facts. At the same time Michael Devlin a Belfast born barrister is pulled into the picture when a good friend of his is killed after talking to one of the suspects in the shooting who is being held in custody.
Sarah Truman an American reporter for CNN working in England is also caught in events while looking for a major story about the crime. The three, each working on different aspects of the shooting, eventually come together in one of the most compelling finales possible. The very future of British politics is in question due to the crime committed and the reader will not be able to read fast enough to satisfy the urge to get to the bottom.

Really enjoyed this. Great pace of action that never lets up right from the start. Plot strands weave together nicely to create a believable conspiracy. Characters are easy to bond with - good rivalry between Turner and Dempsey, and clearly set up for a follow on featuring Dempsey again which I'll happily read!
