This might be a bad translation because the diction was off. Some of it didn't really make sense. What a bummer because I wanted to like it.

Personally, not a big fan of this book. I realize it is translated from Italian, but the sentences are so long that I find myself having to go back and reread them more than once because I forget what they are about! The characters are not very interesting (all they are into are sex, drugs and infidelity it seems...). I am normally a very quick reader as reading is my favorite way to wind down and relax but this book does nothing for me.

I tried to step out of my comfort zone with this one. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish the novel. Nothing held my interest. This may be a case of it's me, not you.

I felt like I was trolling through a labyrinth moving between times and characters surrounding the death of Oscar Martello, an arrogant and entitled Italian producer. This is partly a mystery, who did the deed, a mysterious fire, as well as the background of the relationship between the characters.

I found it thoughtful, but was really never pulled into the narrative, nor did I care about Oscar or his cohorts. I was disappointed in a book I expected to love. This book was a sensational expose of the Italisn film industry (or just the international film industry), but I was not attracted to the noirish story or the mad, unsympathetic characters.
