Our little secret by Darren O'Sullivan.
Chris is ready to join his wife. He’s planned this moment for nearly a year. The date. The time. The train. But he hadn’t factored in Sarah.
So when Sarah walks on to the platform and sees a man swaying at the edge she assumes he’s just had too much to drink. What she doesn’t expect is to stop a suicide.
As Sarah becomes obsessed with discovering the secrets that Chris is clearly hiding, he becomes obsessed with stopping her, protecting her.
But there are some secrets that are meant to stay buried…
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Read In one sitting. Wow. 5*.

The book starts off really good, but then become boring and predictable in the middle. This was not a page-turner, but it gave me something to read.

This book was very, very slow. I almost didn't finish it, but I'm glad I did because it did get more interesting! Several things surprised me, and I'm not disappointed I read it.

Chris is about to enact on his plan to kill himself to join his dead wife when his well-thought out plan is interrupted by Sarah. When Sarah stumbles across Chris on the edge of a train platform, she can't walk away and forget about him, and instead enters his life and begins an intense relationship. However, there's a mystery about the death of Chris's wife and a shadowy figure that appears to be shadowing everything he does. Is Chris who he says he is, and is Sarah safe with him?

Our Little Secret is a rather intense, fast-paced thriller that I was able to read in one day. I really enjoyed the slow reveals about Chris and his wife, and how what appeared to have happened to her wasn't at all what the reader would at first assume. His mind really begins to unravel throughout the book and it's definitely a journey trying to decide whether the reader can trust him or not.

Sarah was, to be honest, a little bit of a wet blanket and a bit surface level throughout the novel. A lot of her personality development appeared to be her penchant for loving abusive and terrible men, and we didn't get a lot into her background as to why this may be and why she is so unhappy with her life apart from the shambles of her love life. I liked the weird relationship she had with Chris, though at times the way she described their sex life could be troubling.

I will say, this book does need to be come with a trigger warning for those suffering with their mental health and who may be battling suicidal thoughts. Chris really gets into the way he planned to kill himself by jumping in front of the train, and those scenes are intense, descriptive and a bit troubling. <spoiler>Ultimately Chris doesn't get the help he obviously desperately needs throughout the novel, and nothing is ever really delved into regarding his mind - was it a Dissociative Identity Disorder or something else? I would have liked to have known more but honestly, I think the author took the easy way out by having Chris jump in the end. I also didn't really like that for Chris it seemingly ended up being a peaceful death when jumping in front or under a train seems like one of the most traumatic, painful ways of dying

I tried to read this book, but I could not get into the story, it was sooooooooo sloooooow and I didn't find the characters very engaging so I stopped reading 20% in but will not be reviewing on any of my platforms.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was amazed to find this was Darren O'Sullivan's debut novel. It was very well written and instantly engaging that I wouldn't have been surprised to find that he had a whole back catalogue of titles.

I was hooked on this story from the first chapter. I didn't like Sarah's character and found that she threatened to drag the story down in places. Her interest in Chris sometimes bordered on being slightly stalker-like and didn't exactly force me to identify with her. I think most women would have given up after being brushed off once but she was a bit annoying.

I loved the turn in events towards the end. There were hints along the way but they were cleverly glossed over. I am looking forward to reading more from Mr O'Sullivan in the future.

Thanks for the opportunity to have read this entertaining book. The book starts with a man that wants to commit suicide. His reasons for it I did not really agree with, but it set the tone of the book nicely. It was well written and very enthralling. Recommended.

Our Little Secret

Our Little Secret is what I would call a slow burner. It’s not fast paced but instead slowly builds the storyline and tension, leading to a heart stopping, edge of my seat story.

Told from two different perspectives, this chilling take grips you and takes you on a roller coaster ride. O’Sullivan is a talented writer who, for me, built a vivid picture in my mind of how the story plays out. I truly cannot wait for more from this author. Five shiny stars from purplebookstand.

I definitely wouldn't class 'Our Little Secret' a thriller, or even a mystery. I picked exactly what was going on, very early on and there was no 'ah ha!' moment at the end when I realized I had predicted exactly what went on.

Our Little Secret tells the story of Sarah, a young woman who comes across a man on the train platform, waiting to jump in front of the next train. Sarah interferes without knowing it and prevents him from jumping. After he leaves, she discovers his suicide note and realizes what she just stopped. From here on in, it gets really weird as Sarah becomes obsessed with a mentally ill suicidal Chris. Seriously weird. [ You'd want to help him get help, not throw your clothes off and jump him.. (hide spoiler)] but just my opinion.

I guess this book was not for me. I found it slow and predictable and had to skim through the pages to finish.

While I enjoyed the writing style and fast pace of the story, I found the "twist" way too predictable. Still fun and entertaining to read though!

I enjoyed Our Little Secret was great, it hooked me in for the start and I wasn’t expecting the twist.
A great psychological thriller and I’ll now be looking for more books by the author.
Fab 5 stars from me.

Maybe I'm just tired of this genre or I wasn't in the right mood when I read this, but I feel like I probably would have liked this book more a year ago.

I think that the biggest reason that I can't stand behind this book is that I just didn't care enough about the characters. I couldn't sympathize with either of the MCs and I had a difficult time understanding their motivation throughout. I get why watching someone on the verge of committing suicide could force an emotional bond that would otherwise never have occurred but the stalking behaviour and it leading to Sarah using it as motivation to take better control of her career.

The twist was also something that I saw coming well in advance, so it wasn't as surprising as I would have liked.

Overall it just fell a bit flat for me.
