A cute simple story which relies more on the illustrations than the text. there are a couple of strong points. The line and paper style of the illustrations which have a great sense of movement. The sort bits of text include a repeated refrain which is great for reading with very small children.

Roger, his friend Emily, and his dog Bob are going fishing. Emily sits behind Roger on the bicycle as they ride through town. Emily is carrying the fishing pole, and she starts catching things long before they reach the water! The humor of the situation will appeal to children. However, the design and layout of the type may make it difficult for struggling readers to follow. The drawings contain fine details that are difficult to see in the electronic ARC on my iPad Mini. Hopefully that won't be an issue in the print edition.

Roger needs a break from his busy life. He decides to pedal off and go fishing for the day. He scoops up Emily his next door neighbour and places her on the back of his bike. He puts her in charge of holding his coveted fishing pole. He then plunks Bob, his dog, in the front basket of his bike and they are off to the lake.

"Bumble-de-bump! Bumble-de-bump!
Roger riding, Bob in the basket,
Emily in back."

Along the way Emily catches many tokens off of the crowded city sidewalks without even casting the rod. She snags parcels, a skateboard, three sheep and one cow, just to cite a few!! Wow... she's very good!! With each item she hooks she yells...

"Roger, Roger, I've got a bite...

"No, you can't fish here...
Wait until we're at the lake!"

The angry, disgruntled crowd, all victims of a grab-and-pedal-off thief, start to chase after the three determined to get what's been pilfered from them back.

Everyone ends up at the lake, then in the lake, which cools tempers off and mellows the emotions. A huge sense of relief is released and the appeased crowd start enjoying themselves. They all end up that evening around a blazing camp fire happily singing kumbaya and enjoying each other's company.

The fun delightful illustrations bring the words to life and the message of the book is positive and up-beat. I know kids will tackle it with glee.

I loved the story! I think it was really interesting and I'm sure it will entartain kids for sure! I wish that illustrations were better because it seemed to me that they were like a scrapbook, but I don't know if that was an intention. However,I'm sure kids will enjoy it!

A funny book for young kids about Roger, Bob, and Emily going for a fishing trip to the lake. As Roger rides his bike through town, with Bob the dog in the front basket, Emily has a bit of fun in back letting the fishing pole loose and catching a few items through town.

Roger Is Going Fishing is sure to make your little guy or girl laugh!

The illustrations in this book are fantastic in their own right as art work, with mixed media which just looks brilliant. As well as the amazing art work, I loved the use of onomatopoeia to bring some of the sounds to life. Other than that however, I thought this story fell short, with very minimal text and a story that doesn't really grab the reader's attention. I would have liked more in the way of the story and its accompanying text, as there just isn't enough to turn this book into a childrens' favourite.

Roger and Emily go fishing and they catch some unexpected items on their way.

Charmingly illustrated and humorous story for young children that presents in pictures how a sequence of accidents brings a small group of diverse people together. Text and illustrations by Koen Van Biesen. Translated by Laura Watkinson. Thanks to NetGalley for providing this ebook for review.

The title is described as "zany." And that it is. Roger's yen to go fishing in the bustling city on the way to the lake results in many mishaps--and catches that aren't exactly fish. A well-illustrated silly story that children will enjoy.

Though I would not purchase this book for my own classroom, it is a book that I may check out from the library. It has a good repetitive pattern to it which is good for students who are learning the features of texts and beginning to gain knowledge of reading habits. The book also takes place in the city which is relatable for my students (I teach at a school in Chicago). In addition, this is a great book for sequencing- who came first, next, last, etc. in the story. The kids would also love the ending, when he catches a "fish" (i.e. Emily) because it is a silly ending to a fun story.

Roger and Emily are going fishing. Roger is riding his bike with Emily in back and Bob (the dog) in the front basket. The bike is loaded down with passengers and equipment. Not only that, but the streets and sidewalks are also busy. With Emily hanging onto the fishing pole, she begins to catch items on the pole belonging to others. The next thing you know, they are being chased by a variety of people trying to get their possessions back. It is a cute picture book where more and more things are happening, and people chasing them causing a chain reaction. When they finally end up at the lake, they realize they all need to relax and enjoy themselves. A cute humorous story that young children will enjoy with the repetition in the text making it fun to read.

The artwork is simple with drawings on a white background with some parts water coloured. I read a digital copy and there were some issues with the graphics, but I am sure the actual book will show them in their entirety.

Roger is riding his bike with Emily in back and Bob (a dog) in the basket in front. They’re loaded down with fishing gear, which makes that much weight on a bike not a good idea even before you throw in the cobblestones. Either bored and evil or not watching what she’s doing, Emily is hooking people and stuff as they bike through town in a heavy rain. Roger always tells her not to fish until they get to the lake, for all the good that does. Pretty soon there’s an angry mob following them like a Benny Hill skit. Even the cow is after them. I feel sorry for the sax player in those high heels.
Cute enough, but not much to it. Seems like everyone was too forgiving in the end.
The artwork isn’t meant to be realistic, so it looks a bit strange to start. It basically comes across as drawings on a white background with some parts watercolored.

Roger is on his way to fish but manages to catch a lot of other things as he travels by bike through the city. Running into different people and acquiring different items all just to get to the pond to fish. The illustrations in the book were stunning with the use of mixed media. The pictures drew me in more than anything else. The story was a mediocre tale, but accompanied by these illustrations the story was made much more unique and interesting.

This book is so funny. Roger is riding his bike with his dog and Emily. They are on their way to go fishing, but they catch a few unintended things in the city along the way. Great illustrations and great laughs. This copy is a digital galley, and there is a few small problems with the digital galley, but I bet the print book will be amazing.

I received this arc for an honest review.
Roger is going fishing. He rides his bike down the street with his fishing pole hanging off the back. Without realizing it he starts to pick up objects and people along the way. They call after him and chase him down until they all reach the fishing hole and decide that's the perfect place to be.

OK, this is a very, very, very simple picture book.

This is the story of a fishing trip that started a little on the early side, before Roger and his neighbor Emily even got to the lake. Emily starts fishing in the city, and catches boxes, and packages, and musical instruments, and things.

It is a typical sort of picture book story of more and more things happening, and people chasing, and what happens.

I think kids would enjoy this, and want to read it over and over, as Emily fishes her way out of the cities.

I liked the ideas of the story but it wasn't for me and I wasn't a massive fan of the illustrations used either - can only see it being read once - 2 stars

An entertaining and well-composed story of a young boy and his loving friends going on a bike ride.

A peculiar little book for the very young - while the story has some fun elements the artwork really lets the side down with its lack of clarity.
