Thank you Net Galley. A delightful read. Derrida has penned an insightful and thought provoking book about Antonin Artaud. His words make us question the categorization of creativity and the link between "art"and "writing.". A must read.

I guess this isn't for everyone, and sometimes I felt I was reading for its own sake, but then I'd be captivated - by Derrida setting out almost the deep philology of Artaud's communications - I was struck by its visceral nature, and Derrida's fearlessness in tracking down sexual and excremental allusions - meanwhile reminding us of events in Artaud's life, receiving electric shock treatment which it was hoped would shore him up. To parse his meanings out, or, rather, his communications, Derrida improvises and tries to capture its drives, in a way, including the context of his talk, in a museum in USA and what those things meant to Artaud. What they might mean to us. Ambitious without doubt and full of gems if not always immediately significant - it feels like excavating for gold and sometimes finding things that are valuable - you hardly know how.
