Absolutely Galápagos by David Fletcher is a humorous and indeed educational account of a tourist tour undertaken around the islands as told in the first person by Brian a British tourist who is accompanied by his wife Sandra. This book provides not only an in depth description of the various islands of the Galápagos Archipelago but also the views and opinions of the slightly erasable Brian a man not noted I would say for his progressive opinions. Still, to combine geographical learning with elements of satire is not to be underestimated.

By reading this book you certainly gain a greater understanding of the topography and nature of the various islands but also an insight into the dangers of expanding tourism and population increases that the islands face. Not all is as seen on the TV nature documentaries. At the end of each day Brian will tell his not always interested wife some interesting facts about every single country in South America. Another aspect to the book is also the relationship Brian has with the crew and fellow passengers on board the boat.

This is something a bit quirky and different to the usual travelogue and if you want humour combined with the imparting of information I would certainly recommend that you give this a try.
