You are always guaranteed a fantastic story with this author. This is the ninth book in this series by this author. The characters are very strongly written, these are characters you will fall in love with as you read. This story has everything, humor, sweetness, cuteness, sexy scenes and a hunky cowboy, what more would you want. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Clara Campbell has been hard-hit recently. Both her parents are gone, her brother died in combat, and now she finds out she doesn't even own her family's property. At least not for another year. Instead, Alex Donnelly is the person who has been, by dint of her brother's will, put in charge of the property and, effectively, her. All she wants to do is ogle to cute guy at the coffee store and live her life. Instead, she has to deal with a brooding ex-soldier.
Alex is in Copper Ridge for two reasons. One is to help Clara and the other is because he inherited a portion of his grandfather's ranch. He wants to fulfill his friend's wishes, especially since his actions saved Alex's life.
I read the first chapter of this in the previous book in the series and immediately wondered if I would really enjoy this book. One of my pet peeves in books is the alpha male who feels he has to save the "little woman" and then there's the false "problem" of my-best-friend's-sister. But I generally enjoy Ms. Yates' books and thought she might be able to overcome my dislike of these tropes. But, unfortunately, Alex was as much of a "me big man, you little woman" as I thought he would be. And Clara is so young. So young. It's not just an age thing, not just a virginity thing, but an overall life attitude that made it hard for me to connect with her.
I will not give up on this series because Yates really is one of my go-to contemporary authors. This book, for me, was just one of her rare missteps.

3.5 stars

I think that with reading this entire series, I can expect the same formula for every book, and yet somehow I keep coming back. There is something comforting in knowing what I'm going to get with Maisey's books.

I loved Clara. She might be my favorite MC from Maisey yet. Sure, she's young and inexperienced at so many things, but she stands up for herself. She's vocal and pushy and doesn't let anyone {especially Alex} tell her what to do. As for Alex...yeah, he's exactly what I was expecting: cocky, stubborn, and sort of an ass. Together their chemistry was off the charts.

Plot wise, it didn't feel like much happened and I think that's why I'm rating this 3.5 instead of 4 stars like I'm itching to do. There wasn't a lot of movement or action. The scenes felt repetitive; same for both of their inner monologues. When there was conversation between Clara and Alex, I couldn't get enough. Their push and pull was entertaining instead of annoying like it usually is.

Overall, it was another set of great characters, but I wanted just a bit more out of the direction of the story. Now I'm ready for Liam's book.

**Huge thanks to Harlequin Books for providing the arc free of charge**

Clara and Alex have both suffered loss throughout their lives and now they have a mutual one in common. Alex has been avoiding her for moths because of the guilt he feels. Clara has shut down for months and really is only functioning to get through the day. Both of them together have forged a kind of friendship that turns into more. But with the ghost of the past will they be able to overcome their grief? This was a really good book and I loved it. I can't wait for Liam's book!

Wild Ride Cowboy (Copper Ridge #9)
by Maisey Yates

Arc was generously gifted by the publishers for an honest review.

Wild Ride Cowboy by Maisey Yates is the 9th Copper Ridge story, to be honest I seen it and read the blurb and a few reviews and I thought I was going to LOVE it!

I did enjoy it, but unfortunately there was just too much drama, like the push and pull and the sending away because he thought that she couldn’t handle him, just not my thing any more. I love slow to burn romances, but I like it when they are all in with the drama surrounding the couple not the shit that happens between them.
This book introduces us to Alex Donnelly, he is one of 4 brothers. The first brothers story was the last one Finn and his best friend Lane. I didn’t read that one, I haven’t read one in a while.
I loved Clara, even though she was young she knew what she wanted, she had her own mind up and she wanted Alex, I enjoyed their budding friendship and when they do get to together it is lovely.
Took us a little bit to finally get there, I was super happy to see the story have an epilogue and the teaser for the next story.
I love small town romances, they are fun to read about. I liked Maisey writing and the story flowed well, maybe a little slow in some places but it was enjoyable. I think it’s okay to go into as a standalone, I hadn’t read any of the stories since book 1 and book 3 and 4.
The cover is amazing, I adore the cover! I love the cover if I see it at the shops, I’ll be getting it.
I think fans of this series will love it, a perfect weekend or in between series read.

Complicated story of loss and love. Read other books in this series so had an understanding of how the author presents the characters. Interesting read of the twisted, albeit wrong, conclusions they come to by not really talking things out. Loved how Alex and Clara evolved over the course of the chapters to become what they were intended to be... together.

Clara is alone- she's lost every member of her family. When her brother dies, he leaves the care and keeping of Clara to his best friend, Alex.

Clara is such a cute character- I love her! And Alex is perfect for her. I loved the story and would change nothing about it. Even the ending line of "you're my Spaghetti-o's and Hot Chocolate" is perfect.

Reading books that contain stories contributed by several authors is fun and great beach reads since invariably each story is about the size of a novella. But even more important is that these books provide a wonderful introduction to authors that may have escaped your notice. It’s hard to imagine there are many with all my years of reading for pure enjoyment and for reviewing. But every once in a while I kind of trip over a new name – well new for me – and that’s how I met Maisey Yates. And boy am I happy I did.

Maisey Yates fits perfectly on my list of favorite authors now and books like WILD RIDE COWBOY are why. WILD RIDE COWBOY is book three in the Copper Ridge: The Donnelly’s series – Alex’s book. And of course we revisit Alex’s brothers Finn and Cain from the first two books. Each of the Donnelly’s series deals with the return home to the Laughing Irish ranch.

The first thing you will notice about Clara Campbell is she seems ill suited to live on much less run a ranch. Her distaste for so many food group items truly make you wonder what she actually eats besides Spaghetti O’s and Coke. Her reaction to anything green borders on hysterical. It’s all part of why Clara just doesn’t seem to fit in anywhere – her actual emotional growth is severely stunted. And we know why that is. Now her world is once again going to be shaken to her very core thanks to the directive left in her brother Jason’s will.

Enter Alex Donnelly. Polar opposite to what Clara would picture as her ideal – anything. As Clara would learn Alex has a rather annoying habit of reminding her of how many woman he had sex with. It seemed to be his way of ensuring that Clara understood that their growing relationship was nothing special – nothing unique – certainly nothing lasting.

Clara’s life was filled with ending moments – the deaths of her mother, her father and brother put indelible periods in her life story. At twenty one Clara only knew about those periods and ultimately being left alone.

Alex made Clara feel not alone and this was nothing short of monumental for her. Anything more permanent could only produce still another period. And when Alex finally left – his time taking care of those loose ends for Clara – well it would hurt but hopefully she would have learned how to step ahead of the hurt, remember some good times and build a new life on those, albeit without Alex.

The more we learn about Clara the more we recognize what a strong woman she really is. In fact that’s the central theme of WILD RIDE COWBOY. Life is more than just a wild ride, more than just getting pleasure where you can. It’s about falling into pits, dusting yourself off and finding your footing. It takes a scary amount of strength and courage and that’s life. WILD RIDE COWBOY is about having courage to find what makes you happy and having the heart and intelligence to go after it.
Alex can be one scary dude. Hides all feelings behind a smile he wears like a mask. Alex let’s no one in to see how life had shaped him. Big scary military man to everyone except Clara. Says it all.

Maisey Yates created Alex and Clara with equal measures of humanity and independence. These characters will live on way after you finish WILD RIDE COWBOY. WILD RIDE COWBOY reminds us to never judge a book by its cover. Or a character by your first impression. Simply because you would be so wrong and shortchange yourself in the end. Alex and Clara just may be the best characters Maisey Yates has conjured up from her amazing imagination. Even if you’ve missed the first two in this wondrous series make sure you don’t pass by WILD RIDE COWBOY. It’s that good and relevant.

This is my favorite Maisey Yates book so far and that's saying a lot because I love her books. One of the books in the Copper Ridge series, this story is about Alex and Clara. Alex suffered a traumatic loss of his best friend in battle and has returned to the farm that he and his brothers inherited. Alex promised his fallen friend that he'd take care of his younger sister, Clara. Clara lives on a neighboring farm and struggles to get through each day. She has lost her whole family and when Alex shows up to "take over" she fights him at every turn. Engrossing romance of two people who have suffered greatly and come together in love. A must read!

Curse you Maisey Yates!!! I cried like 3 different times while reading this book. She busted out all the feels. Clara is a great character. I loved her no-nonsense attitude and with all Maisey Yates books, I like to play a mid book guessing game over who gets to be the asshole and leave the other person. I was half right since the actual leaving had a bit of a twist.

Also it was fairly humorous that a fair amount of the conversations in the book centered around how much Clara hated kale. I really like kale :)

This is a great story and as I'm writing this I notice that the cover actually depicts a scene in the book (a great scene), what a nice touch.

Maisey Yates has woven a heart warming story featuring the old tale of an innocent virgin and a rugged older man who is dealing with some issues. The characters are both strongly written so it's easy to imagine them as real people dealing with real problems. If you haven't read any Yates novels, this is a great place to start. You won't be disappointed.

Alex is a man that likes to ruffle Clara's feathers, “yeah, well I’m not in the army now, baby.” He smiled, and he knew it would infuriate her. “Open the darn door.” Alex thinks about his girl's needs, “I brought soup and safe ***,” he said. “I’m recently informed you don’t like soup, but I am hoping that you’re interested in the ***.” I really enjoyed this book, I loved Alex.
