This book was a DNF for me. I found that it took me a long time to try to read and didn't hold my interest.

I feel a warning regarding the sharing of the h would go a long way to help target the proper audience for this erotic read. There are a lot of readers who would turned off by the threesome type relationship between the H, h and 3rd party. Not to mention the cheating going on with the fictional MCs.

I will say it is definitely outside the box when it comes to romantic erotica but for me it missed it's mark.

I liked the exchanging of ideas and the collaboration between White and Caterine. The muse idea was also intriguing but it fell short for me because the MCs emotions were too detached. The H was too passive during the "acting" of the sex scenes between Sim and Caterine. He waited to long to stop her and Sim and his outbursts felt too little too late. The fact that both Sim and Caterine enjoy each other also felt like a betrayal of the love story the author us trying to sell.

I found myself hard pressed to connect with any of the characters and couldnt really engage in their supposed romance.

I really enjoyed this book. I will say though, at first I thought that Alaric was a complete douchebag, but he did gain some of my favor by the end. I never fully loved him though. I liked how some of the sex scenes are told through his writings because he had them act the scenes out. It stopped things from getting repetitive. I didn't like that during some of her scenes with Sim she thought that she had to continue what they were doing, even when she didn't want to, because she thought she was going to get fired. One of my favorite parts is when she started writing as Erica. It added another depth to the story line. I would recommend this for fans of erotic romances with a regency twist.

Muse is erotic and sensual, a great piece of erotic fiction. Caterine needs a job and she's been actively looking for one when she meets Alaric White, erotic fiction writer. Alaric needs a muse for the character, Erica (Frederica), in his latest book, and he's been unsuccessful at finding one. He's at a local coffee shop when he sees a man accosting a young woman, and his inner Neaderthal is awakened, so he runs over to help her. When she lifts her fearful face up, he's struck by her. She's Erica come to life, in the flesh. "She was Erica. She was absolutely, exactly Erica. Clear porcelain skin, the blonde hair that fell in loose waves about her shoulders and those deep, hooded green eyes. She looked like an angel just arisen from a leisurely afternoon of amour."

Anyway, he offers her a job and asks her to come to his hotel room for the interview. Only she has no idea what a job as his assistant/muse will really entail. It's not just research and assistance he wants from her. No, he wants her to act out all the sex scenes in his current book, so he can get a feel for what she looks like and how she feels as she's being pummeled by Alaric's best friend, fellow author, Sim Toro.

It's an unusual premise and it definitely held my interest. I can't say that I enjoyed the scenes between Caterine and Sim, though, because they were rather clinical. Rather, the developing heat and affection between Caterine and Alaric are what drives this book and kept me reading. And the scenes of the book Alaric and Caterine are writing were just as sensual and erotic as the tension between Alaric and Caterine.

Alaric especially, held my interest. He's an interesting character, to say the least. He's a damaged soul, thanks to his cheating, philandering father, who cheated on his mother so much that he drove Alaric's mother to kill herself. Alaric has never gotten over her suicide, and blames his father for her death. So, his relationship with his father is strained. And now it's even more so that his father is dying and has given Alaric one last command: apologize to the woman he tried to kill when he was younger, or Alaric's sister will not receive her inheritance. Alaric doesn't care about his own inheritance, as his writing has made him a wealthy man, but his sister lives and breathes for the family company, White Chocolate, and if she were to lose her inheritance and her company, it would devastate her. So, Alaric must carry out his father's last wish, even if it will affect Caterine. Yep, Caterine is all involved in his father's last wish, and Alaric has to decide if he wants to hurt Caterine, or cause his sister to lose her inheritance. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Alaric is a complicated, multi-layered character, and the real standout in Muse. Caterine is enjoyable but a little bland. I'm not quite sure she is a comparable heroine up to Alaric's stature, but she is sweet, and Alaric loves her, so she gets a pass.

Kudos to Marie Martine for writing a fine, unusual example of erotic fiction. It's sexy, sensuous and sweet. Can't wait for Sim and Zoe's book!

Unique story. Alaric is an erotic romance writer in search of a muse, Caterine is in need of a job and Alaric won’t take no for an answer. The chemistry between them is steamy. The story is entertaining and different. I liked it.

Alaric was a total creeper. Was not a huge fan of him and had a hard time connecting with him and Caterine. It bothered me that he kept calling her Erica. I felt he was using her (he actually was) but it just came off wrong and rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe include other qualities in him that will appeal to readers

Muse, Marie Martine

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, New Adult.

Well, this was a fun read. an  author, writing about an erotic reads author, whose writing a new romance, but in a historical setting....
Its an enjoyable romp, a fun sneak of history and what might have been going on under all those straight laced appearances. Don't expect historical accuracy, though there's a few fun snippets tucked in, just take it in the spirit its written, fun and a little bit frivolous.

There's a sweet love story going on, with Alaric really being in love with the idea of his latest heroine Erica. He can't seem to find a muse though, the person who's just right to play her character out in front of him with his long time best friend and fellow writer Sim. His "research assistants" play a very hands on - and clothes off- role, acting out scenes with sim, while he watches, studies, takes notes and is inspired into the next scenes.
Behind that is part of the reason he writes romances...his cold, philandering father. He's one full sister and a host, an unnamed number, of half brothers and sisters spawned from his dad's days of cheating on his mother.
Finally she had enough and committed suicide and Alaric blames his dad, she was heart broken at his actions and couldn't take any more. Their relationship has been cold ever since and rather than work in the family firm Alaric writes sexy stories. Brings him a very good living too.
Then life takes a very unexpected turn involving his latest find, his Erica, Caterine.

Caterine a cute girl, innocent but not a virgin, alone after her beloved mum died, except for her best freind Zoe. When she meets Alaric after another failed job interview he's entranced. here out of the blue is the woman he's looking for!
He Has to persuade her to work for him, he Needs her. No won't be accepted.
Luckily for him she needs a job, the money's excellent and Zoe is always telling her more sex is good, and she's got the chance to dip out of her comfort zone, in a big way. hot sex with two gorgeous men....

I liked both her and Alaric ( and Sim, unreprentantly sex obsessed).
OK so its an unrealistic novel, (unless erotic authors really do use hands on research!!) but its got enough of a tale to tie together the steamy sex scenes, both in real time and the acted out historical ones, and lets the story flow through.
I can't take books where its all sex and no story, even in an erotic read I need enough story to hold things together and this book does it.

Its not a huge pull at your emotions drama, though in fact it could have been, but a lightish, very sensual and tantalising read.
Its not one I'd reread, but I did enjoy it and I'd be interested in reading the next book, Sim and Zoe. There's a sample of that and the end of this and having got to know both characters it looks another fun read.

Stars: Four, a fun and sensual read.

a good read.

This was amazing. Beyond sex, the level of intimacy between the characters makes this the sexiest thing I have ever read. My only complaint is Caterine she didn't know what she wanted, she turned him down multiple times but still kept saying he didn't want her. Otherwise it's an erotic story within a sexy one, and both were well written. I look forward to reading more from this author.
