A good book for the serious and dedicated watercolor beginner. This book would be of great use to someone who knows they will be pursing this art form and wants a serious course in watercolors. But for the casual beginner who isn't quite so sure, this isn't the right book. The suggested supplies are expensive and not only is no alternative given, but any alternative is looked down on. The book starts off with a lot of material on color theory instead of teaching it as part of the lessons.

Want to be the best watercolor painter you can be? This is a great starting point. Want to play with a new medium and see where it goes? Perhaps another book would be best.

This is a great resource for both those who are new to watercolor as well as intermediate students. I loved how the lessons built on the foundations of watercolor. The first few lessons were very simple and easy to follow. Over time, the lessons got harder but they still relied on the strokes and concepts that were taught in the earlier lessons. The instruction was very clear, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about watercolor painting. Even the beginner who has never picked up a paintbrush before can succeed with this book.

I was a little disappointed there wasn't much of Jenna Rainey floral artistry on display in this book. It's informative in it's colour wheels, brush strokes, perspective and instruction but elephants, parrots and cactus aren't subjects as a newcomer to watercolour painting, that inspire me to paint, I was expecting and hoping for peonies, pansies and roses etc

This book has beautiful watercolor illustrations throughout to break text and add a bright pop of colour against the plain black on white type text.

The book starts by giving us some information about the author, their background with watercolor illustrations and painting overall, being inspired to try by family encouragement.

There are examples of techniques used with small diagrams to follow as well as being informative to us beginners by discussing colours and the make up of paints. This enables us to try our best attempts at a specific piece as Jenna's writing is like being encouraged by a friend to keep going and persevere through even the trickiest little intricate details.

So, the book gives us thirty paintings created one per day for thirty days to hit your goal and get you involved in the habit of creating artwork consistently everyday keeping you creative.
For me, I can't wait to create an elephant as directed by the book, my favorite animal by far and am chuffed to find it in this book!

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!
