The View from Rainshadow Bay is a good book! I enjoy Colleen Cobles writing style and she can tell a good story.

Suspense, danger and romance are what you can look forward to when you meet Shauna a widow who is struggling after her husband death five years earlier. And Zach who was his best friend and feels responsible for his death. There are secrets to uncover and Shauna needs Zach's help to keep her and her son safe. Looking foward to more of Colleen's books.

I received this an ebook from NetGalley and all opinions are my own.

Coble has crafted a good novel with a balance of character development, suspense, and romance. While the action is current, the roots of the suspense are in earlier events. Shauna is a private helicopter pilot whose husband had been killed in a climbing accident. He was climbing with his good friend Zach and Shauna blames him for the fact that she is a widow and single mother. People close to Shauna are being murdered and then it becomes apparent Shauna's life is in danger. When Zach comes to her aid, she has lots of pain and anger to work through. The suspense increases as Shauna and Zach find clues from the past, items someone is willing to kill to get.

The best part of the novel for me was the setting. I love it when I find a novel taking place in my native Washington State. The location for this one is the north part of the Olympic Peninsula where there are several lavender farms. The name Rainshadow Bay is descriptive as I live on an island that is in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains. I've included a photo I recently took of the very area Coble has chosen to set this novel. You can see the mountains that Shauna says takes her breath away.

I recommend this novel to readers who like a good balance of character development, suspense and romance. There is a strong Christian message woven through the novel, encouragement to trust God when we are going through difficult times.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

If you're looking for a healthy dose of suspense and a late night date with a good book, this book will fit the bill! Coble has started another series, this one set in Lavender Tides, Washington. Shauna McDade, recent widow, single mom, and helicopter pilot, uncovers the threads of a sinister plot in her peaceful little town.

To make matters worse, she can't name the plot or the mastermind behind it. The string of 'accidental' deaths, including her husband's, has her questioning everything and everyone she knows. In addition, someone has started stalking her and her young son. The only person she feels as if she could trust is the one person she blames for her husband, Jack's, untimely death.

Zach Bannister, pilot and airport owner, feels responsible for Shauna's husband's death, just not in the same way. Sure, they knew how to egg each other on to find the ultimate adrenalin rush, but he can't believe that Shauna actually blames him for Jack's death.

Their uneasy alliance to figure out who's responsible for the deaths brings them into each other's company in ways that make them both rethink their former friendship as well as their future. Only by working together can they unravel the truth and prevent more deaths.

Fans of Cara Putman, Terri Blackstock, and Lynette Eason will love this book!

If there's one good thing about all the traveling we've done over the last couple of weeks, it's that I've had plenty of extra reading time! I dug into Colleen Coble's newest book The View from Rainshadow Bay last weekend, and it is now my favorite that she's written. I know, I say it nearly every time, but, honestly, they just keep getting better and better!

The View from Rainshadow Bay is the first book in a brand-new series that takes place on the west coast. Lavender Tides still boasts all of Colleen's trademark gorgeous scenery and a cast of colorful local characters. Her books always have a romantic angle, but, once again, the mystery is at the forefront of this thriller. And, as usual, her books manage to be edgy and interesting, while remaining clean and inspirational. I'm never ashamed or even hesitant to recommend her books.
In this latest novel, Shauna is struggling since the death of her husband, Jack, a year ago. The bank is about to repossess her helicopter, which will mean she will no longer have any way to support herself, or her young son, Alex. The only person she can think to turn to is, Zach, her husband's best friend. However, Shauna blames Zach for Jack's death, and she won't even speak to him. But, when Shauna is the last person to see a friend before he is brutally murdered, she is swept into a dangerous situation, and only Zach can protect her. As Zach and Shauna dig deeper into the mystery, and draw closer together, old secrets are uncovered, and everything Shauna believed about her past turns out to be a lie. Who can be trusted? How many deaths have really been caused by the mysterious murderer? What do the earthquakes have to do with the death of a recovering drug addict? Why did the murdered man have a necklace that was buried with Shauna's mom years earlier? Does Shauna's alcoholic father have the clue that will solve the mystery? The questions pile up fast, and the solution will really blow your mind!
I have to say, the plot of this book is totally unique and new. The earthquakes brought an interesting plot twist that totally surprised me--and that's not really easy to do any more! The characters here are my favorites of any of her series so far, maybe because they really kept me guessing! I loved Zach, and his loyalty to Shauna and Alex. His desire to take care of them, even though Shauna hated him, made him really admirable. Shauna is also a great character. I love that she flies a helicopter, and is doing everything she can to take care of her son. I also admired her for continuing to take care of her father, even though he never took care of her. Zach's attitude towards her father made me love him more, too! I also really loved the sheriff and his wife in this book. I honestly wasn't sure what side he was on at first, and his younger, model wife really kept me guessing! I won't tell you what happens, but I will say they are one of my favorite parts of this story.
I have long been a fan of Colleen Coble, and I'm so excited that she's started this new series! I can tell it's going to be a great one, and I'm already excited for the next one coming out this summer. I love that I can recommend good, clean thrillers that won't leave the reader feeling dirty at the end. Faith is woven through the pages of all of Colleen's novels, and it adds to the interest of the story.
If you're looking for a great new series to start out the new year, I highly recommend that you start with The View from Rainshadow Bay!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own, and a favorable review was not required.

THE VIEW FROM RAINSHADOW BAY. by Colleen Coble
Shauna and Zack, had once been friends, now her husband is in the grave. To ask a favor from him, only because of her son. Clarence who was like a mentor for her, ask a favor of her, and he would be gone for awhile. Then a deadly fire and what's with the box. He was a business partner and so much more to her. Then the wife is killed. Shauna had secrets from her pass, she never spoke of, to find out her Dad was more than just some one always drinking. This is murder, mystery and woven in is a love story, takes awhile to put them together. This is the first in her new series, so maybe we will read more of the same characters in the next book or two.
Given ARC by Net Galley and Thomas Nelson for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

This novel takes place in Washington State amid the Lavender fields and Cobble does not disappoint her readers in this mystery/suspense..... A climbing "accident" leaves a young woman a widow and their 4 year old boy fatherless. Then her partner and father figure is killed and a few days later his wife is killed. The young woman is their sole heir and this causes suspicion to be cast her way. Then she is sent a warning that she will be next if she does not give back what is not hers. But what do they want? She has no clue as to what they could want. She has to protect her child and her husband's best friend helps by having her and her son move into his home which has watch dogs and strong security.......there is so much excitement and danger in this one book. You'll think you have figured out who the murderer is...then it's not them, so it must be...no not them. Your mind will be in a whirl with all that's happening. You will keep turning the pages until the surprising ending. There is a romance beginning and ending in The View From Rainshadow Bay, such a good book.....I was gifted this book from the publisher via Netgally and this review is my own thoughts.

Folding back the cover of my kindle, I cozied down under the duvet to tuck into the latest from Colleen Coble, The View from Rainshadow Bay. 10 minutes in, I snapped it closed, eyes wide, and vowed to read the rest in daylight! It is a brilliant thriller from the first page to the last! I read it in one, day-time, sitting enjoying its fast pace and interesting plot. It is spine-chillingly realistic with great, unexpected twists. Both Shauna and Zach are easy to connect with and I hope to see them both in future books in this series. The writing is rich with wonderful descriptions of the area and multi-faceted characters. It's a five out of five, I highly recommend it!

Shauna is doing all she can to stay a float after the death of her husband. When it seems that someone might be after her, it seems the only person she can turn to is the one person she blames for her husbands death and the one person she can't stand to be around. Can she get to the bottom of whats going on and protect herself and her son or will all become to much?
Zach has enough guilt over his best friends death. His life changed in just a tiny moment and all he wants to do is protect Shauna and her son and try and make peace with the past. Will he be up for all thats thrown at him or will it finally be to much for him?

Where to begin with this book. This book was so amazing and I can't wait for more from this series. This book will not disappoint it will keep on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end. I really enjoyed the message of forgiveness in this book, that no matter what can go wrong we need to find the forgiveness for each other. I really loved that this book was a good clean read and that it was perfect for all ages. (teens through adults). You really can't go wrong with this book you will think you have it all figured out when the author throws a wrench into the mix only to keep you guessing.

As I read The View from Rainshadow Bay, I could smell the lavender. Colleen Coble is a great writer of suspense. Following Shauna's story gave me goosebumps at times. Shauna's character is a strong woman, who can take care of herself. But her journey to the truth reveals who she really needs to lean on. This is also a book about redemption with secondary characters taking center stage at times. If you enjoy suspense and adventure, you'll want to read this first book of the Lavender Tides series.

I didn't enjoy this book very much. It was very difficult for me to even pick up the pace for the first couple of chapters and I had to start over many times. The main problem was the number of new characters that were introduced in the first 20 pages: Shauna, Zach, Clarence, Stuart, Lucy, Alex, Marilyn, Jack, Nora, Karl, Everett. Considering that only a few people are protagonists, side characters should be written in slowly and only when they serve a purpose.

Also, the book starts with a mysterious bombing and it puts everything in motion right away. I felt that this didn't give me time to even care about the death and the threat to our main characters.

I was really looking forward to reading this title, but I couldn't manage to the final chapters.

The View From Rainshadow Bay is a mystery with some romance thrown in. There are Christian undertones to it as well. I had some issues with the consistency of the characters, the story, and some things that seemed pretty far-fetched.

As for the characters, I felt like the killer was not consistent. The killer goes from gleefully killing certain people to not wanting to kill others, and uses a different method for every single killing. Also one of the staged accidents would have been near impossible to stage. How would the killer have known exactly where they would be or exactly when to lie in wait?

There are other things like one person tying three men up while holding them at gunpoint with a rifle. There is no way one person could do that and still keep the rifle on the men. The three men could have overpowered that person and gotten away pretty easily.

As for the inconsistencies in the story, one example would be this: there is a package that has something in it that the killer wants, but the killer did not know the sheriff had the items that were in the package, so the killer goes after two different people in the book believed to have those items. But later on suddenly the killer knows the sheriff has these items, but gave one of them back to the main character? That doesn't make sense. Things like this just really annoyed me about this book. And don't get me started on guns being able to shoot off locks and silencers making guns completely noiseless, which is also included in the book. There were just too many inconsistencies and implausibilities in this book for me to completely enjoy it.

This is the second Colleen Coble book I've read. The other was Haven of Swans. I liked it better than this one, and I did not catch the same types of inconsistencies and implausibilities in that one. Other than those issues, so far I feel like her books are a little slow and just not compelling enough for me, especially for a series. Plus this one was very predictable and it was very easy to figure out who the killer was. This is the first book in a series, but I don't see a need for this to be a series, since everything is wrapped up in the end, and it works fine as a stand-alone, so I'm going to leave it at that.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher Thomas Nelson for giving me a copy of this book for review.

The View the Rainshadow Bay was my first Colleen Coble book and first in a new series. I always had heard about Coble's books, but always ended up picking up one in the middle of a series. The plot is way more complex. It starts when grieving window Shauna visits a friend who asks her to mail a package. As she drives away, the friend's house explodes and is engulfed in flames. The mystery begins, and Coble weaves a complex tale that will keep the reader guessing until the final pages. The "shaking"scientific invention was far fetched and almost ruined the book.

I’ve read numerous books written by Colleen Coble. She has a gift for storytelling and a special knack for romantic suspense. She’s on my ‘favorites’ list, and I have 18 of her books. As you may know, I’m initially drawn to a book by its cover. This one, by far, has the most eye-catching cover art.

The View from Rainshadow Bay is a suspenseful read with themes of forgiveness and desire to love again, and has just the right amount of romance. I was drawn into the characters and moved through the story with a few surprises. The scenic descriptions are vivid, but not overdone, and the mystery is plausible.

I enjoy stories where the characters are overcoming a painful or traumatic past. Shauna and Zach have gone through a lot, and have many matters to sift through. I liked the buildup of their relationship, and the twists and turns they encountered.

The pacing was good in some of the more suspenseful parts, but a little slow in others. Overall this story kept my interest.

This first book in a new series by Coble was excellent! I am not really sure about the title since the plot really didn’t have much to do with Rainshadow Bay. I was rooting for Shauna and Zach to overcome their differences and get together. The mystery was good—just felt a little contrived at times. Coble did throw in several twists that kept things interesting. I figured out the “villain”, but not really any motivation other than greed for all his “dastardly deeds.” I would recommend this novel (and pretty much anything else that Colleen Coble writes) to anyone looking for a gentle love story with some suspense thrown in.

Great start to a new series! The plot with Shauna and Zach has twists and turns as they try to solve several mysterious deaths, while trying to determine what they both want from their relationship. There are many interesting side paths, leaving you to try to figure out who the killer really is. Keeps you guessing till the end! The ending leaves you eager to read the next book in this series! Another great one for Colleen Coble...mystery with a dash of faith!

I absolutely love Colleen Coble books! A well written suspenseful story. I was drawn into the story and characters immediately. Colleen incorporates love, forgiveness, commitment to God, and a powerful ending that left me on the edge of my seat. An engaging page-turner that keeps you glued to the book until the last page. I’m now anxiously waiting for the next book in this series. 😊

Wow, wow, wow! That is the first thing I thought after I finished The View from Rainshadow Bay. This novel was a fantastic first novel in this series for Colleen Coble. I cannot wait to read her next book in this series! This book is filled with suspense, romance, and entertainment. The story of Shauna and Zach pulls the reader in to want to read more and more. The suspense filled scenes make the reader wonder who is behind everything that is occurring and what is going to happen next. If you have never read Ms. Coble, you will not be disappointed. If you have read her books, I think you will find this to be a great addition to your collection. One aspect of Ms. Coble’s books that I enjoy is that they are clean and filled with Christian themes. Ms. Coble shows how God works in her characters’ lives. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.

The author knows how to write a classic who-dun-it mystery. It is so good it just pulls in the reader and next things you know you are at the end of the book just wanting more. This book is so real, it is filled with just enough tension and sweet romance mixed in you feel like you are right there with these characters. I love the setting and it just sounds so lovely there in the mountains with the lavender fields and the bay, it just sounds like the perfect place and just a beautiful setting for this book. I hope there are more books to this series.
