A beautiful cover. A mystery book with some romance. The story was slow.

I don't know how she does it, but Colleen Coble has an incredible gift for writing books that keep me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I love how she expertly weaves Shauna and Zach's story together in the midst of lots of mystery. Also, I am a huge fan of this cover!!! Gorgeous.

3.5 stars from this reader.

This multi faceted novel by Coble was my first by this author. Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review the ARC. I found the protagonists easy to relate to and very likable and realistic. The prologue itself grips you from the get go ratcheting up the suspense as it opens with a woman being chased through fields of lavender in this Pacific Northwest setting, which happens to be one of my favorites. The cover of the book is lovely, but In my humble opinion, the title of the novel does not do it justice. It is a murder/mystery romantic suspense. A snappier title than "The View...." would have more of a draw for mystery fans..

Protagonist Shauna McDade is a helicopter pilot, with a 5 year old son, Alex. Having been widowed about a year, Shauna is still reeling from the loss of her husband Jack after a tragic accident took his life while he was on a daring climb with his best friend, Zach Bannister. They were all very close at one time, but since her husband death, she can't even bare to look at Zach and holds him responsible for what happened on that climb. Zach has felt guilty for it himself, as his daredevil life-style was the catalyst for the accident.

Circumstances bring Shauna and Zach reluctantly together as bodies start falling in this small town. There are several twists and turns in this mystery that keep the reader engaged and in suspense while trying to figure out who is killing who and why. When some evidence is uncovered in present tense, it has Shauna and Zach wondering if Jack's "accident" a year prior may not have been an accident after all. The character development is fleshed out adequately, the setting vividly described, and the emotions believable.

This author is known for her Christian fiction and mysteries. The religious aspect is not overdone and preachy. Just a frank thankfulness to God for his help and guidance through hard times for many of the characters in this novel. No bad language or tasteless sexual innuendos here, but fine and original story telling. Recommended reading for any mystery/suspense fan. To be released in January, 2018.

The View from Rainshadow Bay by Colleen Coble is the introduction to her newest and latest series set in Washington state. With Coble being so established in the Christian romantic suspense genre, I knew what to expect before even starting the novel. Coble does a good job at creating characters who jump from the page and intermingle with the plot.

A good romantic suspense novel with have the same amount of romance and suspense in the story. The romance or the suspense doesn't overshadow the other parts of the story. They both deepened as the story progresses bringing depth to the characters as individuals and as a whole. Coble does a good job at this.

In The View from Rainshadow Bay, Coble invites me into the life of Shauna and Zach. I see their dark moment in their past, which affects who they are as we meet them on the page. Shauna and Zach learn how to move on with their lives and learn to accept love into their heart. Both Shauna and Zach change and transform by the end of the novel into better people, which I really enjoy seeing.

As for the suspense, Coble does a good job at creating conflict that isn't what every other suspense writer has done, she does keep you guessing and surprised when something happens to the character. I finished the book in a day. It was interesting and held my attention.

Overall, The View from Rainshadow Bay by Colleen Coble features transformative characters caught up in moving on from their past hurts and staying alive as the truth from the past comes forward in their lives. I enjoyed this novel and recommend it to fans of Irene Hannon, DiAnn Mills, Dee Henderson, Katy Herman, Christy Barritt, and Brandilyn Collins.

I received a complimentary copy of The View from Rainshadow Bay by Colleen Coble from Thomas Nelson Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for a copy of this book. Not a book I'd normally have chosen to read, I picked it up to give it a go - and couldn't put it down. A great story with lots of good ingredients: friendship, family, romance, thriller, animals. Would highly recommend it. Look forward to finding more boeoks by this author.

Good mystery and strong characters. Some of the story seemed a bit simplistic - at times things happened a bit too easily or unrealistically, but overall the story was very good. Lots of suspense, good relationship development and interaction between characters, and a love story as well. I have read most of Colleen Coble's books and am always eager for a new one. This book is the start of a new series and I'm eager to read the next book in the Lavender Tides series.

Just finished my advance copy provided through NetGalley. Another good mystery by Miss Coble. I do have to say though that I suspected the guilty party as soon as I was introduced to them. I also don't particularly care for the use of a small child in a vulnerable position.

How exciting to find a new romantic suspense author (to me) in Colleen Coble. The View from Rainshadow Bay was exciting from beginning to end. I will be looking for more books to read by this talented author.

This is the first book by Colleen Coble that I have read that has not been historical fiction. I found that I was drawn into the mystery that she was living. The characters were likable and I was cheering for them to solve the mystery and stay safe! I really liked this book and hope that she continues to write more!

Colleen Coble can always be counted on for hours of reading enjoyment. Her latest novel, The View From Rainshadow Bay, is no exception. Coble consistently sets her romantic mysteries in locations that are intricately woven into the storyline. In this novel her readers will spend time in the Pacific Northwest with Shauna McDade, a young widow and single mom. Shauna’s life spun out of control beginning with her husband’s falling to his death while mountain climbing with his childhood friend, Zach Bannister. Now Shauna is in the uncomfortable position of having to rely on Zach, not only to fill in for her husband on a father and son outing, but to provide safe shelter for herself and her son Alex. As readers of romantic fiction could already guess, both Shauna and Zach find their feelings toward one another changing as they both share a living space as well as work together to solve a rash of murders in the small town of Lavender Tides.
The theme of The View From Rainshadow Bay comes from Romans 8:28: And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. This is a verse that many of us have had to rely on when facing tough times, and we can find encouragement in Shauna’s story. That said, this book is not preachy in any way, and would be equally enjoyed by Christians and non-Christians. The mystery is intriguing, and Coble provides many possible antagonists for the reader to sort through in an effort to identify the murderer. The romance adds tension to the story without taking over.
I thank NetGalley and the Thomas Nelson publishing company for providing me a copy of The View From Rainshadow Bay in exchange for an honest review. I received no monetary compensation

* I will post on line and add the links here during the week of the book's release.

I loved this book. She does such a great job of describing characters and settings. She also does a great job with the mystery angle. I hope there are more books in this sister as I want to know more about the brother and sister.

I loved this book. The story captured my imagination from the beginning and I loved how it unraveled. From the death of Jack which at first was thought of as an accident to the revelation that it was murder. It was lovely to see the growing romance throughout the book however unlikely it seemed at first. It was a wonderful read from an author who is new to me. I shall be looking out her other books which I am sure will be just as wonderful.

I am not a fan of romance books but this author is so talented in mixing a romance into a great murder mystery book. This is a great start to another murder mystery series. I really enjoyed how the book showed what hate can do to our heart and what forgiveness can do for you. Also that your sins of the past no matter how long ago will find you out. I highly recommend this book.

This was my first book by Colleen Coble and I was truly blow away! Her characters are engaging and full of surprises, making you care what happens to them in the way you care for your real friends. The setting of Rainshadow Bay is both peaceful and mysterious, ready to give up its secrets if you are bold enough to look for them. I was also pleased that though a suspenseful story, Colleen Coble is clean, offering people who respect themselves enough not to sell their beliefs for fame. This story was well written, weaving a superb tale of mysterious and intrigue without the benefit of having to blush or 'skip' scenes due to graphic nature. Kudos to this wonderful book!! I will be reading many more,

The View from Rainshadow Bay by Colleen Coble was a romantic murder mystery. The book brought us to a small town in Washington state on the Pacific Coast where a Shauna McDade and her son were trying to survive one step ahead of the bank. Her husband was killed in a climbing accident the previous year. She blamed her husband best friend Jack for his death. From the opening scene where her mentor was killed until the end was a roller coaster ride. There were earthquakes, unexplained run-offs, people murdered and small town gossip that punctuated the storyline. Unfortunately Shauna needed to turn to Jack for safety and as the story evolves her feelings for him increase.

Colleen Coble’s book The View from Rainshadow Bay is listed as the first of a new series called Lavender Tides. The writing is clear and enjoyable. The characters were well developed. The story balances the romance and the mystery. The book is a Christian romance and mystery which is not listed anywhere in the publishing information.

The View from Rainshadow Bay is a good read.

Shauna McDade is a widow raising her young son alone thanks to an accident that killed her husband a year ago in scenic Washington state. Bitter against his best friend Zach, whom she blames for the accident, Shauna won't have anything to do with him until she needs his help to prove that some strange things are happening in Rainshadow Bay, things that are leading to the deaths of friends and may ultimately lead to her own death. With earthquakes happening with more regularity than usual and the reappearance of her mother's missing necklace that hadn't been seen since her death, Shauna is caught up in a conspiracy that may lead her down a path that is even more dangerous than she knows. This book is a great read and has a wonderful setting with inspiring characters who are there to help each other in difficult times. You will not want to miss this first book in the new series by Colleen Coble!
